Is it Claimed or Possible?

In the first paragraph on Elsweyr's history, it says, "Elsweyr is home to an ancient civilization that, it has been claimed, may predate the coming of mer and men." There is a large difference between the three possibilities here, so I'm wondering: Was it claimed that Elsweyr does predate mer and men, was it said that Elsweyr might predate them, or is it simply unknown and therefore possible that it does? If it was claimed that the province's early civilizations did predate mer and men, it should read that "...that, it has been claimed, predate..." If it was suggested that they could predate mer and men, or if it is unknown, it should read, "...that may predate..." and there might be clarification. For instance, if the possibility were suggested by somebody who tended to be very trustworthy, it could be mentioned in parentheses, but unless there is anything notable, it would be pointless to clarify between "it is possible" and "somebody said it is possible," as the two are essentially the same. It may seem unimportant, but there is actually a significant difference between the three, mainly because there could be notable information involved. --13rats 06:34, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

I just read the PGE paragraph, and it appears to reference one school of thought- the classical, simplified view of history where elves come from Aldmeris and humans come from Atmora and the beastfolk have always lived there (likely taken from the allegory of the Anuad). 74.65.142.202 21:24, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

The Infernal City Reference

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered.

I keep seeing the statement that Elsweyr and Black Marsh seceded from the Empire one year after the Oblivion Crisis. Finally, this article says that the reference is from the novel. A brief search of the names of the two provinces netted me with no results. Could someone find the page or the quote? From the Imperial Library's summary:

• Black Marsh succeeded from the Empire before the Empire collapsed. p.206
• Water's Edge is “a bustling market town that – like Ione – had done most of its growing In the last few decades. During the years when the old Empire was collapsing, it had served as a free port when Bravil and Leyawiin were independent and often at odds with each other, and Water's Edge had been protected by both and by what remained of the Imperial Navy.” p. 223

One month later, and I still haven't found the exact line that references that both provinces succeeded from the Empire one year after the Oblivion Crisis. Rising Threat indicates that they seceded after Red Mountain exploded, which was in 4E 05. When looking around I also see the date of Ocatos assassination as 4E 10, which I can't source. Silence is Golden^{Break the Silence} 04:03, 28 April 2013 (GMT)

Anequinia/Pelledine

I feel really annoyed every time I look at the map of Cyrodiil. The reason is, that Elsweyr practically doesn't exist anymore, but all the maps keep marking it as "Elsweyr". I haven't found any marking the two new (/old) kingdoms ever since (except the one in the PGE1, but that isn't very detailed).

I just wonder if anyone could find a proper map.

There is no map like that. Even on modern (4E 201) maps, Elsweyr is depicted as united and Alinor is still named the Summerset Isles. This article needs to be updated, but the map images can't be helped. —Legoless (talk) 13:48, 3 January 2013 (GMT)

The Elsweyr Confederacy

In the 2E timeline, it states that the Elsweyr Confederacy was formed in 2E309, while the first recorded case of the Khanaten Flu occured in 2E560. However, on this page it states that:

"Historically, Elsweyr was split into a number of smaller states (speculation suggests as many as sixteen states) until the time of the Great Plague that devastated the whole of Tamriel. Only the kingdoms of Anequina and Pellitine are known to have survived this catastrophe intact and they decided at that time to forge an Alliance of Peace, thereby creating a unified confederacy."

There is one other mention of a Great Plague, but that occured in 1E2200 and caused the sixteen provinces to merge into the two states of Pellitine and Anequina to form.

No idea where this "Great Plague" comes from, but it's the Thrassian Plague that devastated Elsweyr. Thanks for pointing it out. -- Kertaw48 (talk) 13:06, 26 January 2013 (GMT)

I believe that it was referring to the Knahaten Flu, but the two states merged together prior to the outbreak. -Kingkonig 23:50, 28 January 2013

Geography update

Important to note in geography, there is a place known as the "Tenmar forest in central Elsweyr." It is home to the clouded senche leopard recently noted in the upcoming crown store update. this means that A senches live in more areas and adapt to their environment, and B There are more than just huge grassland/plains with small bits of jungle on the valenwood borders, there are also forests as well. — Unsigned comment by Jalmynar (talk • contribs) at 01:14 on 8 August 2015 (UTC)
