Vilkas Bugged[edit]
Does anyone else get the bug where Vilkas keeps initiating dialogue with you? I expected to see a little bugfix for PC when I looked here heh.
So after I do the first quest for the companions I go back to the companions hall, and we go out back and stand in a circle, and then a dragon attacks the city and everyone in the circle just ignores the dragon and goes about their script saying I am cool enough to join and all that, meanwhile a dragon is screaming overhead and everyone around us is flipping out. as soon as it lets me move again we all go attack the dragon and I killed it at the bottom of the steps in front of the companion hall, and that is when Vilkas got stuck constantly initiating dialogue at the top of those stairs. — Unsigned comment by 74.211.82.189 (talk) at 04:58 on 25 November 2011 (UTC)
(This issue resolved itself, I decided to stop avoiding companions and Kodlak Whitemane ran up to me and gave me an official welcome to the companions, after that Vilkas seemed to be fixed) — Unsigned comment by 74.211.82.189 (talk) at 20:30 on 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- I have a similar problem, after I've rescued Hillod the Younger, I enter Jorrvaskr and he keeps coming up to me with his weapon in his hands, same as Farkas, like I've done something wrong to them, but all they give is the normal dialogue, and when I leave conversation, they force conversation on me again ~ Dwarfmp 06:29, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Ok this is bad, he followed me outside Whiterun, couldn't wait because "a guard was pursuing me". He's a fast runner, so I tried killing him with the console (he had to be essential). I hope that keeps him off my back for now. Does anyone know why he does that? I can only assume it's part of the questline, but something's gone seriously wrong here ~ Dwarfmp 06:45, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Now that I think of it, I may know why they're chasing me on sight. I'm having a bit of another bug, namely getting 1000 bounty for nothing. I first had a bounty of 1000 for Falkreath all of a sudden, which didn't make much sense, considering the fact I don't remember killing anyone, and the fact I had never been there... When I got there, I paid off my bounty, and I immediately got a 1000 bounty for The Reach. I think it's that bounty causing them to chase me like that. Not sure though, but this bounty thing... Can't find a console code in the list, I don't really mind paying it off as I'm rich anyway, but I hope to actually be able to pay it off permanently. Anyways, Vilkas and Farkas could be tagged as some sort of guard ~ Dwarfmp 11:57, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

(←) I got it! You must pay your bounty in one of the city u killed or steal something. Vilkas must be tagged as a guard so just find the city you have to pay your bounty and thats it! — Unsigned comment by 208.92.17.3 (talk) at 05:35 on 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Confirmed, got rid of the second bounty by declaring Thaneship (good thing so I didn't have to pay it), and without it they don't seem to be chasing me anymore. Hazzah! ~ Dwarfmp 08:54, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered. - Another Dialogue big: I used Vilkas for a bit to train up my Destruction skill while in the brawl quest to join the Companions. I finally decided to join them, and completed the Rescue Mission quest I recieved from him. However, when I go bat to Jorrvaskr, he is standing there with the objective marker above his head, but no dialogue options. He just tell me his radiant lines. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Fixing Vilkas Dialog Bug[edit]
It appears that Vilkas is bugged and acts as a city guard, if you have bounty at the moment he comes up to you and open a dialog box, as if trying to arrest you. For me, what has helped is getting rid of any bounty from all reaches. — Unsigned comment by 94.13.149.125 (talk) at 20:33 on 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- As is stated right above? Please read the talk page before posting duplicate sections, especially when there's only 1 topic to read through ~ Dwarfmp 15:33, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Zelda Reference?[edit]
He says "Only the circle are. [b]It's a secret to everybody[/b]" if you ask him if the companions are werewolves after Proving Honor. It's an incredibly famous quote, so I can't imagine it wasn't done on purpose. If somebody could verify his dialog, though, because I'm quoting from memory. 69.65.92.11 19:39, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Vilkas Bug?[edit]
So I've encountered a bug that seems to be rather... unique. I've looked around and it doesn't seem like anyone else has experienced it. Vilkas was my husband and he stayed at my house in Windhelm. I go home one day, set him as my follower to serve as my pack mule. I was doing the Mage's Guild questline and fast traveled to a Dragon Mound because it was the closest to my undiscovered destination. There was a dragon there, I did Storm Call, went and killed it. Afterwards, Vilkas and Shadowmere were nowhere to be found. Eventually, after running around for a bit, I found Shadowmere; I decided to fast travel and see if Vilkas would show up. He didn't and I assumed he was dead. I checked back home in Windhelm to be sure, but he wasn't there, so I went to Jorrvaskr to see if the Companions would have any dialogue about his death. And he was standing right there on the top of the stairs.
But when I initiated dialogue with him, it was like we weren't married. He gave me his general dialogue, but when I told him to follow me, he still had all of the items I'd told him to lug around, along with his Band of Matrimony. I tried to fix this by taking him to Windhelm and releasing him from my service, but he just went right back to Jorrvaskr and is still acting like we aren't married. This bugs me, especially since I'm on the 360 and can't remarry.
Any ideas? Any at all? -- 76.104.119.73 05:03, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
- I don't have any for-sure fixes on something like that, but I can probably partially explain why he's doing it. When you finish up the companion's quest line, you have the choice of asking the companion leaders for work, Vilkas being one of them. When you take up one of those quests, the npc you took the quest from will always stand next to the stairs inside Jorrvaskar until you finish it. It doesn't seem like they ever move from that spot. If you took up a "I'm looking for work" quest from Vilkas around that time, that could be why. If not, then probably some of his programming is operating as if you did. Although it's a bit late, the only thing I can think of to fix it is if you tried to re-marry him by putting on an amulet of Mara (not console commands).--69.205.180.81 01:04, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
Training Bug[edit]
On the 360 I've completed the Companions Questline and done a couple of jobs, now I've returned to Whiterun to get some of this free Training I've been reading about and Vilkas for some reason just doesn't have the dialogue option. Aela does, he doesn't, even when I dismiss Lydia and get him to follow me. Can't find any info on this happening before, any ideas? — Unsigned comment by 82.39.212.200 (talk) at 14:45 on 3 March 2012
- my problem is that he doesn't have any dialogue option besides "I'm looking for work".. no following or training. I just slaved away in a mine & over a hot skyforge to make some new gear for my dragon hunting buddies and I can't give it to him. farkas & aela got theirs. — Unsigned comment by 172.129.14.115 (talk) at 04:24 on 30 March 2012

Vilkas doesn't move[edit]
There is apparently a bug in which Vilkas just doesn't follows the quest given routes. The first time it happens right after entering the companions. The Dragonborn should follow Vilkas behind Jorrvaskr to test the Dragonborn's strength. But Vilkas doesn't move. Console commands like kill and resurrect can't fix the problem. The problem can be circumvented by attacking Vilkas and fleeing to the combat place with the weapon drawn and forfeiting by sheating the weapon. Now he should be on the right spot to fight you. But two quests later, when the Dragonborn comes back with Farkas and Farkas vouches for the Dragonborn, this breaks the game. The cutscene in which the Dragonborn becomes member of the Companions just never ends. Most likely because Vilkas still isn't there to greet the Dragonborn and to say his text. I have only seen this bug with version 1.5.26.0.5. Anyone has a solution for that problem? -Joe — Unsigned comment by 93.207.135.231 (talk) at 22:58 on 20 April 2012

can't become a werewolf[edit]
I started the companions quest line and then forgot about it halfway through and went and did other missions number for ages, now every time i go in jorrvaskar vilkas is standing on the stairs telling me to do a job but i have nothing on my missions that i have to do and i can't quit, how do i complete his job? — Unsigned comment by 92.25.37.30 (talk) on 1 May 2012
Killable[edit]
How can you kill vilkas? i completed companions questline did his purity quest etc and now dragon seekers gitched out because there is no dragon...He needs to die but he is fucking essential — Unsigned comment by 77.166.160.62 (talk) at 14:53 on 13 May 2012
- First, don't delete other peoples posts. Second he should be killable after Glory of the Dead, but if he is following you he is perhaps essential, you may need to spend 30 days away from the dragon lair location for a dragon to respawn. The Silencer has spokenTalk 14:11, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
-
- Oh no, He's very killable as a follower....
-
- I was just playing with Vilkas as my follower and I was under the impression he was essential and could not die--then he got killed about four times, which totally freaked me out (I almost felt like Jean Claude Van Damme in that cheesy movie Bloodsport, when the evil villain Kumite champ is getting to ready to stomp on his pal's head, and Van Damme does that super-cheesy, melodramatic "NOOOO!! STOP!!!!!").
-
- He bit it twice in the Ansilvund Excavation (once by walking over that pressure stone that triggers the giant, spike covered trap door thing that swung down and knocked him about a zillion feet in the air, then again versus the final bosses), and got killed a few times in Mzulft too, against Shadowmasters. Btw, I was on level 65 or 66, so that may explain it, since I "reset" him or whatever with the Wabbajack, and after that he turned into a merciless, relentless killing machine. --Timfever 00:13, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
Ok, Vilkas kept following me til I got fed up and attacked him. Figured he'd just get beatdown and leave me be for awhile but, to my surprise, I lopped his head off. So, too bad, but I'd killed Alvor already so wasn't too surprised. Later, I went up to Eorl to sell stuff and Vilkas shows up, sans head! Creepy. How DO you get rid of him?
Following Vilkas doesn't complete![edit]
After returning to Whiterun with the shard and going to jorvakr to complete mission. Vilkas is standing there he speaks saying "we were waiting for your return" the current quest completes and the "follow Vilkas" is the next quest. After follow Vilkas around to the back of Jorvakr were the circle is nothing happens and talking does not work (they are busy appearently) and talking to vilkas does not doing thing either. After trying everything reloading saves and restarting the whole mission the same thing happens and you can just give up but then you cannot get any followers because Farkas is still your current follower.

- Are you fast travelling to Dragonreach? I think I read you gotta enter through the front gates (probably by fast travelling to the stables) and then entering the city. That might help, if not, I'm not sure. --Sencilia 11:03, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Vilkas Won't Give Quests[edit]
He was fine giving quests until Skjor somehow resurrected himself from the dead and now Vilkas won't give any quests making his "Purity" quest impossible to complete. --Charlie1121 19:00, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
- (Sorry for my english, it's not my first language) I'm having the same problem, but in my game Skjor never resurrected (I've been returning to Gallows Rock to finish radiant quests, and his body is still there). Well, after that, I've become the new Harbinger for the Companions, and I married Vilky XP. But when I ask him about a job, he never give me the option: only when I'm doing another job for Aela or Farkas, that's when the option appears (and he always answer "Aren't you already running a job for Aela/Farkas?" -also, he has stopped making me Homecooked Meals :(, damn it, man!! where's my f%&ing sandwich!?-) At first I thought I glitched him when I married him, but it looks that this happened when I helped Farkas to get rid off his lycanthrophy (after that, Vilkas never give me the option to cure him, even when I talked to him having a Glenmoril witch head in my inventory). It's only a guess, but I'm thinking making the quest "Purity" glitches the brothers (I saw a video of another user where he can't ask for quests to the brothers, only to Aela). Anyway, I hope the information in the Purity bugs section can help you; also, I found more information in this Purity Quest (look into the bugs section), in this Purity problem and here: Vilkas won't let start a quest, I hope they can be of help. I'll try them, but since I made the Purity quest a long time ago, I don't know if it will work. (and I wonder, why didn't they make these quests like the Thieves radiant Quests? I can ask for quests to Vex and Delvin at the same time, why they didn't the same with the companions?) Audrey Gally talk 17:30, 9 September 2012 (EDT)

- Is there any known fix to the issue of Vilkas not giving any quest at all? I have completed Glory of the Dead, the Totems Quests from Aela, after that I did Farkas' Purity and Dragon Seekers Quests without any problems, but ever since I finished Glory of the Dead Vilkas wouldn't give any Quests (there was no option to ask him for work anymore). After I finished the Purity Quest for Farkas the Witch Heads weren't essential anymore as well, tried dropping and picking them up but that didn't seem to change anything. I have tried numerous fixes on the Purity Discussion Page, but I think my problem slightly differs from those, at least it didn't work. Anyone got a solution?85.177.160.42 12:13, 12 November 2012 (GMT)
Here is how I was able to solve this: Accept any mission from the companion leaders. Advance up to the point where you will complete the mission but don't complete it yet. Instead go to Whiterun and kill Vilkas and then complete the mission, so that he is dead when the misc objective "Speak to the leaders of the companions for work" happens. Now resurrect Vilkas using the console. At this point you should have the speak to the companion leaders active with arrows only pointing towards Farkas and Alea. Complete any other companion mission, and then talk to Vilkas and he will start giving quests again. I didn't know about the bug and purified Farkas first and then noticed Vilkas wasn't giving quests. After doing this I was able to get normal radiant quests from Vilkas as well as purify him. Later I was able to purify myself whenever I wanted. I had 2 heads in my inv the whole time. -Adam — Unsigned comment by 47.223.145.183 (talk) on 04:38 UTC 13 Feb 2017

Can't complete Companion Quest[edit]
I'd taken Vilkas' Kill the Criminal quest (CR07) earlier in the game. The target never appeared on the map - already dead?
Later in the game, the quest vanished from my open list, but all the companions still act as if I'm still on the quest - "Aren't you already doing a job for Vilkas?" etc.
Resetquest CR07 and trying to advance stages doesn't work.
Any way I can close this mission and carry on with further companion quests?

New dialog discovered[edit]
When walking around Solitude, Vilkas got into a special dialogue with a lady, i think it was the one from bits and pieces but i'm not sure. Quite funny. — Unsigned comment by 93.103.187.78 (talk) at 03:59 on 25 July 2012

- Special dialogue hmm? Well I don't think it's a new dialogue. Most probably one of the rarer generic dialogues. I know of one special conversation that can happen with any two ladies and one man. It's funny too, and could be the one you're referring to. It goes something like this:
- Lady #1: "Hello."
- Lady #2: "Oh, hi, I'm glad I ran into you. I was wondering if..." (Man interrupts)
- Man: "Hello, ladies! Is there anything a big strong man can do for you this fine day?"
- Lady #1: "I don't know. If you see any big strong men around, let us know, will you?"
- Both ladies: *Laughs*
- Man: "Harpies, every one of them." (walks away from them)
- Lady #1: "Oh, come now. Don't go away mad."

Vilkas dead (probably) but no body and marker still pointing to where I saw him last.[edit]
So I married Vilkas and asked him to follow me to fight Alduin the first time. We got up on the top of the mountain, I opened scroll, kicked Alduins ass and left.
Got home, unpacked my stuff, but something was different. Vilkas was missing. I marked the "Ask for jobs from Companion leaders" to see where he was. Marker is pointing to the place where I saw him last before the fight at the top of the mountain. But no body. Nothing. Just marker. I tried player.placeatme but got nothing. I also can't re-load, cause I'm using mostly quicksave and they get written over all the time.
Is there any other way to get Vilkas back? Even thou he is very annoying to have at home cause he always makes a mess by throwing around anything I leave on the table, I miss having him around. — Unsigned comment by 81.166.73.213 (talk) at 21:01 on 1 December 2012

Vilkas only trains to 45 in Two-Handed - Bug?[edit]
Has anyone run across this? I am a female Nord One-hander warrior, and married Vilkas a while back. Hadn't trained in Two-Handed. I am level 68. I decided to use the Oghma Infinium to level up (trying to get to level 78 so I can kill a Legendary Dragon). After leveling, I asked Vilkas for training in Two-Handed and everything seemed normal. I took my money from his inventory. Then read Oghma Infinium until I leveled again. I noticed the training option is available and it will let me train 5 times but it stays at Two-Handed Level 45 and does not change. I did go from 39 to 45, but noticed it is stuck at Level 45 over 2 training sessions (i.e, I leveled twice and requested training twice and did not go over 45). Does anyone have any idea why this bug occurred? Is it because I'm married to him, or because I used the Oghma Infinium, or just a bug? Maeve4444 (talk) 02:05, 20 December 2012 (GMT)
- Some trainers have a level bug where they can't seem to bypass that level when training you. To get around it you should train Two-handed naturally for 1 level, and it should be working again. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 02:24, 20 December 2012 (GMT)

I have just done the quest for the old man about the witches heads and when I return the silver hand has attacked and killed the old man. "I've already given you a job, now get to it" Vilkas bug[edit]
I've completed companions storyline, also totems of Hircine and a lot of radiant quests, last completed quest in my quest log is Escaped Criminal. I want to take new quest but Ayla and Farkas are telling me that i've got quest from Vilkas, and Vilkas is telling me "I've already given you a job, now get to it" but i have no unfinished companions quest in my log. I just need quest ID or something to finish it with console so i can take another quest.
Used magic on vilkas in "Taking up Arms." Now he hates me.[edit]
Hey peeps! I've been playing skyrim on and off since August 2012 and I've never encountered this bug before. I figured that I could max out my leveling in Destruction to 100 just by hitting Vilkas with frostbite and flames. Anyway, I now have 100 in destruction and I did save before spamming him with magic but I would like to keep my Destruction at 100... Is there any way to fix this bug without going back? He gave me his sword and told me to take it to Eorlund but he keeps skipping between attacking me and opening up a dialogue box and then attacking me again. - Using the console command setobjectivecompleted 20, and then setstage 30 should fix this, however vilkas will still be a butt and stand there as if he's going to attack, but never will, I don't know how this will affect later portions of the questline however, so use with caution — Unsigned comment by 69.120.79.99 (talk) at 16:30 on 23 July 2013

I don't know when it happened, but some time after completing Vilkas' Purity quest he no longer has the 'Follow me. I need you help." option in the dialogue box. He only has the "I'm looking for work." and "Can you train me in Two-Handed whatever" I've tried completing the quests he's given me, tried switching around and leaving followers, but I can't get him to follow me anymore. I've searched the internet but no one else has had this glitch that I know of. Does anyone know of a console command that can make a follower NPC your follower instantly? I've tried the 'setrelationshiprankplayer' command on him but it doesn't change anything. — Unsigned comment by 68.84.241.167 (talk) at 18:45 on 20 April 2013
dawnguard: married to vilkas before I became a vampire[edit]
I became a vampire while on the dawnguard questline but afterwards came home to vilkas only to get attacked by him then later have him stalking me. After everyone five seconds I'm pulled into a conversation with him and its driving me crazy because I can't play the game I need help. Can someone please tell what to do to get rid of this glitch. I also became a werewolf again to see if that would change anything.... nope it didn't help at all. 50.141.235.66 23:03, 24 May 2013 (GMT)
- Do you have a bounty currently? Because he is part of the guard faction, he will behave like a guard, without any of the guard dialogue.--Br3admax (talk) 01:12, 25 May 2013 (GMT)
Lydia Bug[edit]
I've proposed to Vilkas and have to arrange the wedding at the Temple of Mara, but when I wait for everyone to get there, they turn up, with Lydia's dead body, and hate me! It doesn't give me the option to remarry him and everyone at the Temple says I should just leave. I cant find anywhere else with the same bug so I don't know what to do. — Unsigned comment by 2.98.98.235 (talk) at 22:50 on 23 June 2013
- This is the first bug listed on the Marriage article. This was supposed to have been fixed by Version 1.2 of the Official Skyrim Patch. Do you have all the updated patches for your game? What platform are you playing on? — ABCface◥ 05:32, 27 June 2013 (GMT)
Vilkas glitch[edit]
I have a problem where I'm unable to talk to Vilkas. Everytime when I try to talk to him it gives me the noise of when you are pressing to talk to air. So for the miscellaneous objectives to talk to the companion leaders for work I'm only able to get work from Farkas and Aela. But when I get close to Vilkas he will have a small dialogue for me, but I can't talk to him. It seems this happened after I completed the quest where you see him turn into a werewolf to kill those Silver hand after you got locked up. — Unsigned comment by 88.159.198.186 (talk) at 06:27 on 10 August 2013
- That happens with Farkas, in Skyrim:Proving Honor. --Morrolan (talk) 14:15, 11 October 2013 (GMT)
I have the exact same problem where I'm unable to talk to Vilkas! I have managed to complete the companions quest line but I cannot interact with him whatsoever! This is on the NEW! Skyrim special edition! It's so frustrating. I can't even do the purity quest line! — Unsigned comment by 86.163.91.215 (talk) at 14:29 on 14 November 2016
Disapeared[edit]
I know Vilkas goes out hunting with one of the other companions, I've met him out in the wilderness a few times. He's always been in Jorrvasker when I'm in Whiterun. This time he and Ria (I think) are both no where to be found. Are they supposed to go hunting when your in the city, this is the first time this has happened to me. I've completed both his and Farkas's purity quests, and the companions quest line, if that makes a difference. Is this supposed to happen, has this happened to any one else? 24.114.95.227 13:55, 11 October 2013 (GMT)
- Yes, this happens. If you want to find him, activate the objective Talk to the Companions leaders for work. You'll see where he is (along with Aela and Farkas) on the map. --Morrolan (talk) 14:13, 11 October 2013 (GMT)

- Alright, thanks I found them. He and Ria were trapped in a fight with two spriggans, a troll, a sabercat, and a frostbite spider. 24.114.93.84 21:01, 23 October 2013 (GMT)
I still cant find Vilkas anywhere on my map after activating the "talk to the Companions leaders for work" quest. I haven't seen him since I fought the first dragon in the "dragon seekers" quest. Now I can't find him anywere and I forgot where I first battled the dragon with him. Maybe hes still there but I cant know for certain since I dont remember what dragon lair it was.
Villas Disappears in "Purity of Revenge" quest[edit]
I was in the middle of trying to get Vilkas to stop repeating dialog when he approached me so I killed him and he stayed on a staggered position, I did the quest where you kill the Silver Hand and got the Wuuthrad fragments, I returned to Jarrvaskr and no one was there, Vilkas wasn't there and I can't finish the quest. If I don't end up finishing it I won't be able to fast travel to other places or quest because Vilkas is still pursuing me. But he's missing and I can't find him, if you have fixed this bug or know how to please tell me.— Unsigned comment by 176.61.40.106 (talk) at 19:31 on 13 August 2014
Vilkas is my steward, but he never stays at my house?[edit]
So I built Winstad manor and got Vilkas as my steward (due to following some guidelines from a character generator) and after he became my steward, he left and went to Jorrvaskr. Is there a way to get him to stay at my house? — Unsigned comment by 107.143.52.22 (talk) on 25 December, 2014
Purity Quest Glitch with Vilkas[edit]
Vilkas is my husband, and he kept wanting to go kill dragons and would follow me, but they stay after a while. After the last dragon he instantly came back and wanted to be purified. I accepted the quest, it won't let me tell him that we need to part ways, or even trade with him.
I killed the wolf spirit, and it told me to talk to him, and I keep clicking on him, but there is nowhere to turn in the quest, and I can't stop him from following me, nor can I kill him. Can someone please help me? 73.52.138.23 04:54, 4 February 2015 (GMT)Kaz
Training Dialogue[edit]
I removed a recently added note claiming you need to start The Silver Hand quest in order to get it. This is false, because I can ask him just fine while not having started the quest. Perhaps you need to complete the previous quest, I'm not sure, or perhaps, the USKP does something about it that I don't know of. Either way, this needs verification ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 02:15, 23 February 2015 (GMT)
- OK on the verify but I tried everything to get his dialog up (and I had completed the previous including attending the ceremony, getting the free weapon), multiple attempts over many game days, completed multiple other non-companion quests, trained other skills (obviously multiple levels too LOL.) The only thing that worked was to ask him for work, (the only dialog option available,) then when he replied that I needed to speak to Skjor I exited the dialog then re-entered it and there it was with a bunch of other dialog options I forgot to note (generic ones I think, only notable for the fact they were not there before.) The 1-hand trainer was fine, but he's not inner-circle companion. All inner-circle members had only the one option "Ask For Work". I then reloaded and did the "ask for work" selection for each inner-circle companion as a test which pointed to Skjor and started The Silver Hand quest which then opened Vilkas' training dialog when spoken to. PS3, all 3 official DLC's (via Legendary Ed.)
- I had never used the 2-hand training before this early in the companion quest-line so I thought I had found a quirky bug and was all set to start working on figuring out how the bug worked. When the training option was so easily "fixed" I was a little surprised. Let me know if you (or anyone) finds something different without the USKP or with a vanilla version of the game. Thanks! Taking Up Arms beyond irritating.[edit]
Much earlier in my game I tried Taking Up Arms, Vilkas totally bugs out drawing and sheathing his weapon saying "We don't do battle with magic around here, now come at me!" and I'm not using a magical weapon. I tried it with a Draugr sword still the same line and glitch. reloaded my exit from Jorvaskr and the same thing final try I pulled out my wood cutter's axe and I get a hit in on him and the companions attack me. At this point I loaded a prior save well away from the companions and have avoided them since. The only thing I can think of that remotely could have caused it was that I had the Mage Stone boost active in my effects.
Stormcloak sympathizer[edit]
In his room you can found a "Nords Arise!" book, upon which there is an ice wraith teeth. It seems like, despite what he says, he made a thought or two about joining the war. Is this speculation or an hint we can put in the article? Also, Skjor has a "Dunmer of Skyrim" book, perhaps he took pity for Athis so he allowed him in. The book isn't one that make you like the dunmer though.--79.6.203.170 11:34, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
- Based on these alone its a leap. He may well have had thoughts about it, or he may just have picked it up to try and understand their reasoning. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 13:12, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

- I had a similar thought as the OP... The books and items might be little clues about their personalities or interests.
- Every member of the Circle has a room that is quite fitting for them. For example, Skjor has items hinting to lycanthropy and Totems of Hircine. I like your mention of the "Dunmer of Skyrim" since he's the one who said to Athis "Even an elf can be born with the heart of a Nord". Aela has a room of a true huntress. Farkas seems to like drinking and music (him and Vilkas would be such metalheads, if I may say so).
-
- As for Vilkas, I was a bit obsessed with the character xD so on one occasion I wrote down a list of books in his room meaning to read them. There are books about lycanthropy, Nord history and mythology, a bunch of alchemy ingredients and potions (perhaps hinting to some interest in alchemy or, as I joke, problems falling asleep since he's keeping a potent stamina poison next to his bed and has a different sleeping schedule (2 am - 10 am). Training dummy is perhaps his childhood "toy"... I could go on with wild guesses and build my own headcanon based on genuine clues. It's all a part of game! — Unsigned comment by 109.111.230.187 (talk) at 12:00 on 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Vilkas wont stop using he's bow[edit]
I dont want Vilkas using he's damn bow, only want him using the two-handed sword. Tried give a better bow for him, but he keep using he's wood with a rope -.- but anyway, I dont want him using bow, I want him using only two-handed sword. — Unsigned comment by 186.205.109.252 (talk) at 18:28 on 20 September 2015 (GMT)
Anyone can help me?
- This might work, this might not work: take his bow from him through his follower inventory menu, then give him a two-handed sword. I don't see why he would use his fists instead of his sword. DRAGON GUARD(TALK) 18:33, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

Vilkas Purity of Revenge Bug[edit]
Sometimes, if you're high enough level (90+, for me), Vilkas simply will NOT enter combat when you're on the "Purity of Revenge" quest. Even if he's attacked by the enemies, he just stands there and takes it, eventually getting beat down to "bleedout" state, then recovering (since he's essential). Doesn't enter combat, doesn't even try to block. He does nothing but get beat up. It's like he KNOWS he can't die, and is just waiting for you to finish the quest. I *think* it has to do with your level causing the Silver Hand to spawn too high for him, his AI scripting bugs out and he just stands there and gets beat on. This is particularly amusing with the werewolf in the cage - let it out with Vilkas nearer the door than yourself, it attacks Vilkas. Then he gets rag-dolled all around the room, howling in pain and vowing "you'll pay for that!" but otherwise being nothing but a giant chew-toy for a fellow werewolf.174.28.86.89 00:37, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
