Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
The Sacred City[edit]
Upon entering Rielle, you will be greeted by an angry, ghostly voice:
- "Wh- I am... I am reborn? What is this? What have I become? Who has desecrated my sanctum? Who has defiled my body? There is an interloper in my midst. I feel them. Each step they take in these halls reverberates like a hammer to my heart. Leave this place, interloper. This is a sacred city of Merid-Nunda. You are unwelcome here."
Despite its warnings, press on through the ruin (for full walkthrough, see the place page) battling past undead Ayleids as you go. Once you arrive in the final room of the first zone, a throne chamber, the voice will boom out again:
- "I feel magic coursing through my body from another city. A city far away. A noble, horrible, broken city. You are not the one. You did not do this. Whoever did this must pay recompense for their malfeasance. I am a servant of Merid-Nunda. I loathe the undead. And yet that is what my existence is now reduced to. To my pulled so abruptly from the rest of Aetherius by such a violent onslaught of Magicka, to feel the ancient guardians of this place be reborn... It is a travesty. And in the absence of any other victims against which to dispense my anger, you shall have to do. There shall be no pardon for your trespass. You will writhe in agony for your misdeeds. You will be broken a thousand times over."
Dispatch the four Ayleid undead and climb round to the western balcony to activate the push button that raises the stairs to the north. Once you enter the second zone, the enraged voice will reappear:
- "Still, you press on, one foot before the other, with drive, with determination. I will see that fire in your eyes extinquished [sic] upon my altar. You will be contorted. You will be warped. Your spirit will die long before your body. And it will be agonizing. The state in which I currently find myself does not befit a servant of Merid-Nunda. It is an atrocity. I am an abomination. You will suffer for it."
As you walk into the final chamber, cloaked in red light and with a stone altar in the middle, the source of the voice will be revealed. After a flash of blinding light, Surilaron, former High Priest of Rielle and currently a lich, will make his way down from the altar, uttering:
- "Once again, I feel Magicka flow through me. Life fills my necrotic body... whether or not I will it. I am reborn. And yet there is an interloper in my midst. Who dares intrude within this sacred temple?"
Suitably revived, you will be able to talk to him. He explains some magical source in the west has reawaken the ancient magicks of the Ayleids. You can also question him about his own people, after which he will remind you that you have despoiled Merid-Nunda's temple for your own ends, the punishment for which is death. With that, he will attack you, reanimating the corpses of the four Synod researchers nearby. Once you've defeated him, loot the Flamelight Spire from his body and make your way west to the exit

- Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game. - Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage CYRDunRielleQuest stage
, wherestage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest usingresetquest CYRDunRielleQuest
