"All are free to petition his highness at this time. Do not stray from the audience chamber lest ye have royal blessing to do so. Always speak politely to the king and queen, and above all, cast no spells while within these walls. Do ye agree with these terms?" — The protocol the castle guards tell visitors upon entry

Castle Daggerfall (also called Daggerfall Castle)[1][2] is the seat of power for the Kingdom of Daggerfall and is located in the capital city. The castle sits at the city's highest point and overlooks the settlement and the Eltheric Ocean from its unassailable position.[3]

History[edit]

Before Castle Daggerfall was built, it was preceded by Daggerfall Overlook, an old Breton keep southeast of the city that sits above the Iliac Bay.[4] The castle appears in the historical fiction series, King Edward as the first scene, where a young prince Edward sits in the palace orchard and looks across the bay of Daggerfall. It was that moment when Edward first met King Moraelyn and I'ric Harad Egun.[5] It was occupied by King Corcyr I,[5] who is later referred to as Gerald in the story.[6][7] Back when the Direnni Hegemony was at its most powerful in the early First Era, Raven Direnni was one of the first occupants of the castle.[8]

In the early to mid Second Era, Castle Daggerfall was occupied by Deleyn Dynasty,[3] since its first monarch, King Donel Deleyn.[9] In 2E 582, a plot involving the Bloodthorn Cult was uncovered, which culminated in an assassination attempt on King Casimir in the castle. The assassin, Verrik was defeated by the Vestige while they guarded the king.[10] In that same year, the Thieves Guild of Abah's Landing stole one of the castle's ancient heirlooms, Raven Direnni's inflammable rug.[11]

In 3E 405, King Gothryd was given the Totem of Tiber Septim from his friend, Lord Woodborne of Wayrest and he kept it in the castle's treasury. When the Blades tried to take the totem from Woodborne's home but failed, they suspected it was located in Castle Daggerfall so Lady Brisienna Magnessen made contact with an Agent to infiltrate the castle and retrieve the totem. The Agent delved deep into Castle Daggerfall and successfully took the totem.[12] The fate of both the artifact and the Agent is currently unknown.[13]
