Cathnoquey is an archipelago that lies somewhere between Tamriel and Akavir. It was conquered by Uriel Septim V in 3E 276,[1] and was still an inhabited Imperial territory and trade hub circa 3E 331.[UOL 1] According to dubious Imperial records, its main inhabitants are the Chimeri-quey, a tribal remnant of Chimer composed of fisherfolk who live on the coastlines in grand flotilla-townships of advanced design, and the Keptu-quey, men with tan brown skin said to have a strange obsession with drawing bulls and living in leaderless societies in military fortresses.[UOL 1][UOL 2] One of its major exports is wasabi,[UOL 1] a substance that has been popular in Skyrim since ancient times.[UOL 3][UOL 4]
- In Michael Kirkbride's descriptions of the archipelago, the inhabitants of Cathnoquey were inspired by the culture of the Native Hawaiians.[UOL 1] Kirkbride had spoken about how during his time on series, he wished he had introduced more diverse peoples on Nirn that physically resembled real-world ethnic groups that otherwise had no analogues in the setting, such as Pacific Islanders.[UOL 2]
