Guardian Celonron is the strongest of the Changelings imprisoned in Ouze. He served as the protector of the other Oathbreaker spirits. He was known to use the form of a lion in battle.[1][2][3]

History[edit]

Celonron's lion form

When the woods were new and wild, all Bosmer were shapeshifters who changed from form to form, with this formlessness being called the Ooze.[4] It was a necessity in those times, as the land had not settled on one form either.[1] Y'ffre gave all of Valenwood a form and purpose and decreed the Green Pact, forbidding shapeshifting and harming the green.

Celonron was one of the early people of Valenwood who did not agree with the teachings of the Green Pact,[5] wishing to live their lives as they always had.[6] This caused disagreements with those who accepted, resulting in a civil war, which was lost by Celonron's people.[7] As punishment for their refusal to give up their shapeshifting abilities and spurning the Green Pact, the Changelings (now called "Oathbreakers" by the rest) were subdued and cursed by Y'ffre, being forced to return to the Ooze.[6][4] The Bosmer did not want to destroy their spirits, however, as they were their brothers and sisters and still believed that they could one day accept Y'ffre's teachings.[5][8]

They were instead contained and buried in the tar-pits of Ouze to be eternally trapped and eternally protected,[7][1][9] in the hopes that they would one day rejoin their people in the time of renewal so that the Bosmer race could be whole again.[1] They could only to rise again if those favored by the Green could release their spirits,[5][8] though where they went and what form they could take upon the return from the Ooze is unknown.[4] Ever since the Oathbreakers were imprisoned Celonron served as a guardian, protecting other imprisoned spirits,[1][2][3] while another spirit, Voice of Ouze was responsible for the mediation between their kin and the modern Bosmer ever since the Changelings were imprisoned in Ouze.[6]

In 2E 582, the Order of the Black Worm defiled the grounds of Ouze, attempting to resurrect the dead that were buried there. During the excavation, they tormented local spirits, took a necromantic gem array from Moranda, and used it to imprison the Voice of Ouze. The spirit requested an adventurer to free their kin and cleanse the altars corrupted by the necromancers. Soon after the deed was done the Voice of Ouze freed themselves from their prison, as the hold of necromancers was weakened after the altars were cleansed.[10] Guided by one of the Spinners, the adventurer attempted to harness the power of Celonron to stop the cult. Although he aided the spinners for centuries, he did not let the adventurer use his power before he was defeated in battle.[3][1] Once he was convinced to lend his power, he joined the adventurer. Together, they foiled the plans of the necromancers and brought back peace to the Ouze.[3][2]
