"With the Impresario, every day is a new adventure!" —Philius Dormier[1]

The Impresario was an eccentric and enigmatic traveling merchant active during the Interregnum of the Second Era. She was a figure shrouded in mystery. While she appeared to be an Imperial, there were various speculations about her true nature. Some believed she might be an obscure Demi-Prince assuming mortal form to interact with humans. Others thought of her as a just wealthy eccentric whose riches had driven her mad. There were even rumors of her being a witch conjuring strange things like spider legs, lizard eyes, and bubbling cauldrons. She was exclusively recognized as the Impresario, and any endeavor to ascertain her birth name was generally deemed inadvisable due to the potential for unfavorable consequences.[1]

History[edit]

Nenulaure, one of the Impresario's employees

The Impresario's history and origins remained a mystery, but what was clear was her constant travel. She once lived in the Imperial City, although the exact time and specific location within the city where she resided are unknown. She visited remarkable sites and cities across Tamriel, including places such as Daggerfall in Glenumbra, Davon's Watch in Stonefalls, Vulkhel Guard on Auridon, Belkarth in Craglorn, Vivec City on Vvardenfell, Alinor on Summerset Isle, Rimmen in Anequina, Solitude in Haafingar, Leyawiin in Blackwood, Morkul Stronghold in Wrothgar, Gonfalon Bay on High Isle, and Necrom in the Telvanni Peninsula, leading a roving expedition. The Impresario's eccentricity was striking, often blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. She spoke of the distant past as if it were recent history and the future as if it had already been written,[1][2] traits associated with Demi-Princes.[3] Her primary passion was stories and tales of valor, and she was willing to pay generously for them.[1]

To fulfill her desire for stories, the Impresario and her entourage offered challenges to adventurers from all over Tamriel. Those who returned with tales of courage and triumph were rewarded with extraordinarily valuable treasures, fit for royalty. Despite this unconventional business model, she never seemed to run out of her arcane wonders, defying financial logic. With the Impresario, every day was a new adventure.[1] She dealt in an abundance of profoundly exotic and enchanted goods. Her business ventures led her to various corners of Tamriel.[1][2] Among her notable wares were feathers that held the power to summon Indriks, and she also dealt in actual Indriks.[4] Instead of accepting money, she preferred to trade in deeds and tales, using Event Tickets as a form of currency. These pink tickets denominated the value of experiences and could be exchanged at the Impresario's traveling stall. The source of her immense wealth was a subject of much speculation at the time.[1][2][5]

Breda collaborated with the Impresario during the New Life Festivities.

In or before 2E 582, the Impresario hired an Imperial assistant named Philius Dormier.[1][4] She also collaborated with other individuals, such as models Reachfolk Cullearn, Redguard Nadyashana, and Khajiit Zalun, to assist in presenting her wares.[6][7][8] She also had a close working relationship with Nenulaure, an Altmeri trader. Nenulaure was entrusted with the care and breeding of her valuable Indriks.[9] Calonir, a Bosmeri author, briefly joined Impresario's entourage, staying at her camp to draw inspiration for his upcoming book about the wilderness of Summerset, Vvardenfell, Clockwork City, and Artaeum.[10] Chanil-Jei, an Argonian, was another of the individuals who trailed the Impresario's entourage. Although he wasn't officially employed by her, he had been following her expedition for a while. While she didn't explicitly discourage him, she also didn't actively encourage him. He was on a quest for stories, and during the Impresario's stay in Leyawiin, he scoured the area for tales of adventurers.[11][12][13]

In addition to working with the people she hired, she also collaborated with other factions. During the celebrations of the Witches Festival, she partnered with the Witchmothers, referring to their leader as a wonderful person who was very giving. Additionally, she formed partnerships with several individuals, including Breda, a Nordic cleric from Eastmarch who organized numerous festivities associated with the New Life Festival. She also worked with Predicant Maera to facilitate celebrations during Pelinal's Midyear Massacre. She traded goods themed after these festivals and also conducted trade with goods related to other holidays such as the Jester's Festival, and various other celebrations, including those of the Undaunted. She also encouraged adventurers to aid the people of Murkmire and fight the Dragons for the Khajiit of Elsweyr.[2][4]

The Impresario aimed to captivate the adventurous, the courageous, and the inquisitive. She urged them to step out of their daily routines and embrace novel experiences, featuring a notable instance where she lured adventurers into exploring the icy peaks of Wrothgar, the perilous sands of Craglorn, shimmering sands and majestic coasts of Elsweyr, and the hazards of the ruined Imperial City. Her objective was to enrich the adventure offerings, making them more enticing for those craving excitement.[14][15] Philius Dormier served as her representative and rewarded those who took up the challenge.[4][16][17]
