Lore talk:Garridan Stalrous
Missing Link[edit]
What links Lord Jaren of Battlespire and Jaren Aethelwield from Knightfall beyond both stories/events using the names Jaren and Garridan? The series of events makes no sense. Lords do not serve other Lords or call them "master" or "my lord". Where is Garridan's lordship in the Battlespire events? Why is there no mention at all of the friendship the two supposedly have in the Knightfall events. How did Jaren go from being a lord to serving Garridan while Garridan earned his lordship? Why is there nothing covering Jaren's current or former status as a lord in regards the food shortage in Garridan's lands, but there is room for the telling of what other lords and regions have done. Even more telling is that Lord Jaren follows Tu'whacca, while Aethelwield follows Mara.
These two stories/events share nothing more than the coincidence of two of the main characters sharing partial names, not even full names. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:22, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- Battlespire? What are you talking about? Both books are from Oblivion: Knightfall was a base game quest-related book, while Lord Jaren's Journal was added by Fighter's Stronghold.
- The missing link is the fact that both of these sources are written by a Redguard knight called Jaren who was a companion of a knight called Garridan in Cyrodiil. Your religious argument, that Jaren of Battlehorn Castle followed the Redguard pantheon and therefore cannot possibly follow Mara, doesn't really hold much weight when you consider the fact that Jaren had a shrine of Julianos in his castle. Julianos also happened to be the regional patron of Lainlyn in Daggerfall, demonstrating that the Imperial pantheon holds much more weight in Third Era Hammerfall than I think you give it credit for. —Legoless (talk) 22:37, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

- Here's what I will say, I certainly wasn't expecting such a response. All I will say is that their relationship is mentioned in both Knightfall and Lord Jaren's Journal, I don't think it's a coincidence that there are two mentions of a Garridan and Jaren, both of whom are friends and Knights. As for the Lordship status thing, I think it's either inconsistencies or just whoever wrote the books for the games wasn't thinking that far ahead. --Vincentius1 (talk) 22:43, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

- Yes, Fighter's Guild not Battlespire (Battlehorn castle is what caused the mixup, similarish names). Both books are not written by Redguard knights. One is written by a Lord and Knight, the other by a man in service of a lord, a man who is very unlikely to be a knight considering he doesn't ever attempt to help his master in a deadly fight, even when his master his about to be struck dead. You've completely brushed over the very large incompatible facts to focus on one minor but telling detail about the two Jaren's religious beliefs. Can you now address those incompatible facts, without relying solely on the otherwise completely circumstantial detail that they have similar names (and don't try to say that they are the same name please, you'd only be exposing the fact that there is no link and you cannot prove what has been assumed).
