This article is about the NPCs. For the Guard class, see Guard (class).
Guards are respawning NPCs who patrol the streets of Morrowind. These people maintain the law, by use of force if necessary, and citizens can call them when they see something unlawful.
Guards also protect valuable resources in ebony and glass mines; wealthier shop owners may have their wares under guard as well.
House Guards[edit]
These are the guards of the Great Houses of Vvardenfell, each located within their houses' territories.

Dialogue[edit]
- Greetings:
- "You violated the law, %PCName. Pay the court %PCCrimeLevel gold and surrender your stolen goods, or surrender your stolen goods and serve your sentence of hard labor. Deliver the gold immediately, or come with me." OR "You violated the law, %PCName. Since you turned yourself in voluntarily, I'll take that into consideration. Pay %CrimeGoldTurnIn gold to the court and surrender your stolen goods, or surrender your stolen goods and serve your sentence of hard labor. Deliver the gold immediately, or come with me."
- Pay Gold. [%PCCrimeLevel Gold has been removed from your inventory.] "I accept this gold in payment of the fines and compensation ordered by the court. And now you are free to go."
- Go to Jail. "Then you must serve a sentence of hard labor. Serve your time peaceably, and pay your debt to society." Goodbye
- Resist Arrest. "Then pay with your blood, outlaw!" Goodbye
- "You violated the law, %PCName. Since you don't have the %PCCrimeLevel gold to pay the court, you must surrender your stolen goods and serve your sentence of punitive labor. Come with me." OR "You violated the law, %PCName. Since you turned yourself in voluntarily, I'll take that into consideration. But you don't have the %CrimeGoldTurnIn gold to pay the court, so you must surrender your stolen goods and serve your sentence at hard labor. Come with me."
- Go to Jail. "Then you must serve a sentence of hard labor. Serve your time peaceably, and pay your debt to society." Goodbye
- Resist Arrest. "Then pay with your blood, outlaw!" Goodbye
- "What do you want? Go see Captain Carius. Talk to Captain Carius if you're looking for something to do. Head through the General Quarters and all the way up the south staircase. On the third floor are his chambers. That's where you'll find him. If you're here about that colony business, talk to Carnius Magius. He's in the Imperial Cult Shrine." Goodbye
- "I got nothing to say. Sure could use a drink, though. And not that Nord swill." Goodbye
- "What do you w.... Hey, is that booze I smell on you?"
- "What is it you want? I heard you were asking around about this being a dry fort."

- "Smells like Cyrodiilic Brandy to me. I'd know the smell anywhere. How about giving a thirsty soldier a little pick-me-up?"
- Sure, take it. [Disposition +40. Cyrodiilic Brandy has been removed from your inventory.] "Some fine Cyrodiilic Brandy. Good stuff. Thanks, friend. Just hasn't been the same around here since this became a dry fort. It's ridiculous, I tell you!"

- "Smells like Cyrodiilic Brandy to me. I'd know the smell anywhere. How about giving a thirsty soldier a little pick-me-up?"
- Captain Carius:
- "I thought he was a pretty good guy until this whole alcohol ban. Just seems kind of spiteful to me."
- dry fort:
- "That's right...no liquor at all is allowed at Fort Frostmoth these days. Captain's orders, I guess. Seemed odd coming from him. Captain Carius seemed like a fair enough guy, as long as we carried out our duties. Guess he figured we weren't up to his standards, so he cut us off. Since then, everyone's been in a pretty foul mood."
- "Got nothing else to say about that right now. Why don't you talk to the Captain?"
Notes[edit]
- For guards in Bloodmoon, see the NPCs page. For guards in Tribunal, see High Ordinator, and Royal Guard.
- There are four guards that only appear at the start of the game, which disappear after you have entered the Census Office. Each of them are named "Guard" in-game, but are not generic NPCs.
- Despite being named Duke's Guard, there are two NPCs in Ebonheart's Imperial Commission guarding the shrine for the Lord's Mail (Duke's Guard_tomb and Duke's Guard_tomb2) who aren't listed as part of the guard class and both have an alarm of 0, likely to allow players doing the Lord's Mail quest to pick the door to the shrine and not get arrested.
