Oblivion talk:Conjuration

Definitions[edit]
Hi, everybody.
I'm new here, new with Elderscroll, and English is not my mother language.
I have a question about conjuration.
Why we are using three different words in this school? cnjuration, summon(creatures), and most confusingly, bound(blades and so on).
Can anybody kindly explain the difference? Tkx a lot. — Unsigned comment by Tsavo (talk • contribs)
Conjuration is the whole school, summoning is when you're summoning another creature (something that moves by itself), while bound blades, armour &c are where you're conjuring static objects. Hope this helps. 144.132.149.70 03:11, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

Well, thanks, that reconfirms my understanding, while leaving my question unsolved.
Is bound for 'bind'? Meaning binding up a blade with your arm? Or the word has other meanings?
I noticed that in the game, some NPC might chat about some word like "you are conjuring up dead things?", which helps me get a clue about summonning.^_^ — Unsigned comment by Tsavo (talk • contribs)
- Conjuring is basically everything a mage does (check your dictionary for a translation ;)). In Oblivion, the school of Conjuration contains 3 "sub-schools":
- Summoning
- Bind Armor/Weapons
- Turn Undead
- I think Summoning is pretty clear ;) You summon animals, daedra and undead to aid you in battle. With "Bind Armor/Weapons" you summon daedric armor or weapons on yourself, which only last a specific amount of time! And finally you can "turn" the Undead with your "Turn Undead" spell, which causes an undead enemy to flee. --Nemini 21:28, 23 May 2007 (EDT)
Summoning Conjuration in Elder Scrolls is the practice of bringing living beings from one of the many planes of Oblivion(Dagon's realm is just one-Shivering Isles is another)to your world for a limited time. Bound Conjuration is the binding of daedric objects in a similar manner. So the "binding" in this sense would not refer to binding something to yourself, but binding something to your current dimension of reality. (Example:If one were to see an animal in a comic book like a cat and that cat could be taken out of the comic and put in your room, then that cat could be considered "summoned" from paper(or the 2nd dimension)to your room(in the 3rd dimension). Likewise if you were to soon afterwards take from the comic a litterbox for your new cat, then that litterbox would be considered "Bound" to the 3rd dimension having come from the 2nd dimension. — Unsigned comment by 72.67.80.126 (talk)
Black Tube[edit]
When a creature is summoned, A black tube goes around the summoned creature instead of the colorful Aura, help, it's very annoying! Puddle 10:29 April 12 2008.

cheapest conjuration spell?[edit]
what is the cheapest conjuration spell that is used at novice level. i need to use it over and over again to get my skill level up. — Unsigned comment by 84.68.244.32 (talk)
- Again, read the article before spamming the site with unnecessary questions. --NepheleTalk 13:19, 11 May 2008 (EDT)
Skill Increases[edit]
... bound weapon spells can more easily be chain-cast than bound armor spells: all you have to do is unequip the weapon, and the effect terminates, allowing it to immediately be cast again.
dosen't work for me (pc). everytime i try to unequip the bound dagger i get a message "you cannot unequip this item" only tried with weapons but i think that's also the case for armors. also i cannot cast the spell again until the dagger effect is gone. — Unsigned comment by Mickey1990x (talk • contribs) on 29 December 2008
- Thanks for pointing that out. The article meant to say sheath your weapon, not unequip your weapon; it's now been updated. --NepheleTalk 11:21, 3 January 2009 (EST)
I think its actually faster to cast Summon skeleton as a chain, especially, if you have alot of Magicka potions 75.159.215.133 r3in
Shivering spells[edit]
The spells that summon hungers and shambles (purchased from Earil) aren't listed in the article. I don't know how to get the small spell icons, but if anyone else would add them to the list, along with the spells it would be nice. Blue deep 13:11, 25 January 2009 (EST)
- i'm not a editor but i think that the spells should just stay with the SI spells (that is if the other ones don't have it) — Unsigned comment by 142.68.119.8 (talk) on 10 March 2010
- Correct. They go here.--Arch-Mage Matt 01:12, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
The Magicka Decrease Equation[edit]
Can someone explain to me the equation for the decrease in magicka cost per level? Does it decrease .012 magicka per level or is it a percentile of the overall cost or base cost? I would appreciate it if someone could elaborate and explain in a less confusing way (for those who aren't that good at equations). Thanks. --Chef-Willis 16:44, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, for the sake of example, and easy math, let's say you have a spell whose base cost is 100 mana and you have a Conjuration skill of 50. That means that for you, it will cost 100 * (1.4 - 0.012 * 50) which simplifies to 100 * (1.4 - 0.6) and then doing the math, it becomes 80.
- If your Conjuration skill goes up to 51, then the formula changes to 100 * (1.4 - 0.012 * 51) which works out to 78.8. I don't know what type of rounding the game uses in this calculation, but one way or the other, your casting cost would go down a little bit to either 78 or 79. Each time your Conjuration skill goes up, the cost of the spell will go down by 1.2 * the base cost of the spell. To determine the base cost of a spell, search the site or look at how much it costs when you're at skill level 33 (which won't be perfectly accurate in all cases, but should be exact for most lower-cost spells and won't be off by more than 1 or 2 for the really high-cost spells). Note that all magic schools use the same formula, so the above applies to everything, not just Conjuration. ‒ Robin Hood↝Talk 23:26, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

- Ah, I see. I guessed as much. Well, thank you for elaborating. I think I misunderstood most of it due to an unread part of the equation. — Unsigned comment by Chef-Willis (talk • contribs) at 17:36 on 5 April 2010

Conjuration and difficulty.[edit]
The article states'Conjured creatures are unaffected by the difficulty settings, leaving them just as destructive and durable. This makes conjuration excellent for a high difficulty game, while lessening its power somewhat on an easy game.' Shouldn't it be just the other way round, Conjuration being better on an easy game?— Unsigned comment by 85.59.77.5 (talk) at 16:38 on 9 June 2010
- I see what you mean, but I believe it is correct. At a higher difficulty, your own blows will deal less damage but your conjured-up creatures will still do as much as damage as they would if the difficulty slider is in the center. That's why conjuration is a good skill to use at a higher difficulty. Likewise, at lower difficulties, your own blows will deal more damage but your own summons still do the same amount of damage. Conjuration is thus less useful at lower difficulties. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 23:07, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

- I think I got it now. As you have explained, the SKILL is more useful at higher difficulty levels and conjured CREATURES are relatively more powerful al lower difficulty levels. However, this is the page about the SKILL and article is fine. Thank you, kind sir!— Unsigned comment by 85.59.92.65 (talk) at 21:53 on 3 June 2010
Reanimate[edit]
The Reanimate page says it is a Conjuration spell so shouldn't it be listed here? 79.97.40.245 15:11, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- I was actually about to add it but that section of the page looks to be...complicated. I think I would prefer if someone more familiar do it. I can see why it was left off, seeing as it has no regular spells, just the enchantment and Lesser Power, but it does say all of the effects. On this topic perhaps Lock should be added to Alteration and Darkness to Illusion? --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 16:39, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

- Probably, but aren't they truly unused affects? I just had a go at doing it in a preview, very complicated :/ and the image isn't brilliant when you shrink it down. I think someone more experienced should have a go. Or whoever put them that complicated in the first place :D -- Thanks --KizC ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 16:43, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
