Deleted comments[edit]
I just undid a set of comments that had been added to the quest. First, the section is called "quick walkthrough" because it is supposed to just provide the minimum details on the quest; more detailed comments only belong in the "detailed walkthrough" section. Second, a large number of the details in fact had nothing to do with this quest, but are actually part of the Weynon Priory quest, and are already described on that page. --Nephele 12:49, 12 August 2006 (EDT)
No journal update[edit]
I have never gotten the 'i have arrived to Kvatch' update before , not even after talking to Jauffre. Walking , going to the city or fast travelling seems to make no difference whatsoever.

- That's weird. You're supposed to get the update as soon as you get to the entrance to the refugee camp (fast travelling or otherwise)... but it shouldn't change anything. If you can still continue the quest, you'll be fine. Vesna 12:08, 14 June 2008 (EDT)

- The same happened to me, but I didn't get any quest updates until I closed the gate. Maybe you have to hit the exact point to get the update (I climbed up the mountain) Matt360 432 17:16, 6 December 2008 (EST)

- i've never gotten it either. i've gone up the mountain, talked to the captain, used the "help" topic, closed the gate, talked to the captain again, went in, killed all the deadra, went in the chapel, and talked to martin, and i never got that update. i have, however, gotten an update that said "i've arrived at chorrol, now to find Weynon Priory" during the "deliver the amulet" quest. — Unsigned comment by 98.142.49.26 (talk) at 03:27 on 29 April 2010

False Info?[edit]
"Most of this quest can be done even if you have not completed Deliver the Amulet. In this case, however, Martin is only identified as "A Priest" and you can't take him to Weynon Priory to complete the quest."
I just did this less than an hour ago and he was definitely named Brother Martin. I have not turned in the Amulet of Kings. --DKong27 Talk Cont 02:10, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
- This page doesn't seem to be in a good state, as is the part you mentioned. Him being named "Brother Martin" wouldn't reveal his true identity in the first place. Thanks for pointing that out ~ Dwarfmp 02:27, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Moved note.[edit]
- If you already have broken the siege of Kvatch before being assigned this quest, Martin will probably be waiting at the refugee camp outside the city.

- "Probably" is a no-go; however, when you arrive at the Chapel with Savlian Matius, before talking to Martin, he will tag along with the other refugees when Tierra leads them down to the camp. Since we have a big fat map marker pointing to Martin anway, the note is unnecessary IMO. --Krusty 10:04, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

- I think that it should be mentioned. This quest is all about finding Martin, and if he moves somewhere during it then it should be noted. If we depended on people using the map markers, we could exclude half of the information on the page. ("Travel to Kvatch"? Nay!) Speaking from personal experience I was pretty confused when Martin started following the refugees on my first playthrough. In regards to Jack's worries about the 'probably', it's unnecessary and should have just been removed in the first place. Legoless 18:55, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Weynon Priory Horse showing up when not supposed to.[edit]
It was late night, around 2.00 am, and I was walking along the coast north of Anvil with Martin following me, after getting him to come with me but not having taked him to Jauffre yet. While walking, I decided to go on the small island near which the Fin Gleam is located, and Martin didn't follow me for some reason. When I came back to the coast, Martin was riding a Weynon Priory horse. A while later, I jumped into the water, and when I came back to the coast, he had gotten off the horse. Afterwards, he just followed me, and left the horse there.

Breaking the Quest?[edit]
Under Notes, it says, "If you do not go talk to Martin before going into Oblivion and completing The Battle for Castle Kvatch, you cannot continue Find the Heir quest."
My questions are:
1) If you cannot continue the Find the Heir quest, then is this a good way to continue the main questline while also circumventing the opening of Oblivion Gates? And/or...
2) ...does the Note mean that this will break the main questline? (Probably both are true? Or at least the latter.)
Sorry if this seems obvious to anyone else. First time playing Oblivion and just want to put off Oblivion Gates opening for as long as possible while I roam and explore (similar to how we can delay dragons from appearing in Skyrim by not continuing with the main questline, I'm assuming).

- That line is actually under Bugs, not Notes. And I'm certain that I've closed the Kvatch Oblivion Gate before talking with Martin, if not completed clearing the Castle as well. I normally run with the UOP, but I couldn't find anything in the patch notes to indicate that a bug of this nature had been fixed. So I tested it with a brand new character in a vanilla game (i.e. no UOP): ran through the tutorial, delivered the amulet, and went to Kvatch. I closed the Oblivion Gate and liberated the castle without ever talking to Martin. The first time I talked with him was at the refugee camp after Breaking the Siege and The Battle for Castle Kvatch were completed: the conversation proceeded normally, Martin agreed to follow me to Weynon Priory, and Find the Heir updated as normal. We went to the Priory, found it under attack as usual, I hauled Martin's butt up to Cloud Ruler Temple, everything proceeded as usual. So this "bug", if it exists, certainly didn't show up in my run-through.
- I checked the edit history of the article and found that this "bug" was added in 2017 and confirmed in 2018 (two of the last three edits of the article). Given that the game was released in 2006 and that the "bug" described is fairly basic, I'm surprised it wasn't found and documented a whole lot earlier, and I'm wondering if it's something that was caused by a mod/mods. Given my inability to replicate it in a vanilla game, I've removed the "confirmed" tag; if anyone can replicate the bug or has any additional information please post here with details before re-confirming.
- As for exploring without the hassle of Oblivion Gates opening, the Gates don't start opening (except for the one at Kvatch) until you arrive at Weynon Priory with Martin, so your best options are to either (a) avoid going to Kvatch to find Martin and simply explore until you're ready to do so (if you don't want a follower tagging along), or (b) go to Kvatch and collect Martin, but avoid Weynon Priory until you're ready to start closing Oblivion Gates (if you want Martin helping you along the way). I certainly wouldn't rely on this rather dubious "bug" to circumvent Gate openings while continuing the main quest. — Wolfborn(Howl) 06:21, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
