Benefits of Boosting Luck Beyond Skill Boosts[edit]

Early in the game, I obtained the Amulet of Luck (Ft Teleman), and as a result the following occurred:

1. The merchants at the Mages' Guilds all had one Grand Soul gem (empty) available (at very low levels)...normally it is levelled and at levels 2-4 for example without a luck enhancement, only filled petty stones were available. Since I finished the Mages' Guild quests by level 2, and was allowed entry into the Arcane University, I was able to enchant with Grand Souls from each of the guildhalls.

2. Was this a quirk? no mods installed....I went to Azura's shrine at level 5 and Mels Maryon, one of the shrine worshippers, was wearing a Daedric helmet and his robe....giving me the option, should I chose it (which I didn't) to obtain a piece of Daedric armor long before they normally are set to appear.

Luck is probably the least understodd attribute in the game. It also determines the chance that certain items in chests will appear(enchanted jewlery etc.) so it is possible that some people's equipment is affected by luck but most of the time it is leveled, much to the displeasure of many oblivion players. I doubt luck affects generic npc's equipment but some people can have random equipment so maybe luck does affect things like that. I could be wrong either way though. In response to RIM: To quote the article Luck does not have any impact on what loot you will receive from containers or other leveled lists. Read earlier on this talk page for details.
In response to MGSBoca: Every Mages Guild merchant always has one empty Grand Soul Gem (see Soul Gem), so your luck had absolutely no influence on the soul gems. And how exactly do you know that Mels Maryon had a Daedric helmet, especially if you didn't kill him and take it? Sorry, but I don't see anything in what you've posted that points to any influence of luck. --NepheleTalk 15:20, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

(e/c) It improves all but two of the skills. So the cost of casting every spell is decreased; every potion you make is better quality; armor rating is increased; lockpicking is more likely to succeed; repair hammers are less likely to break; merchants give you better prices. That's a lot more than just modifying damage. --NepheleTalk 15:37, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
I did read the article, I was just saying that beyond moddifiying damage, luck wasn't a particularly strong attribute, sorry I probably should have put that in my first post but when I went to edit the page, it said somebody was already editing it and so I had to post my comment again. Just a note on the helmet. It is very likely that he was using a Bound Helmet spell, as I've seen him do it. As for Luck in general, I can see that it has very strong potential to be helpful, but I've never gone that route. I prefer to level my other attributes. I mean at 100 luck, you gain an extra 40% of 50 extra Luck to skills. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 16:16, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
Your probably right, with the nerby enemies it is very possible that he summoned a bound helmet. Either that or he just summons it at random times. Thanks for clearing that up:) RIM 16:21, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

3. I've enchanted five apparels, all weightless except for the leather boots. it gave me 20 hidden skill points on all my attributes, excluding athletics and acrobatics. F.Y.I, combined with a 100% chameleon enchanted on 3 accessory, ring of lordship (dementia)/grand ring of shadows/custom enchanted necklace, and a custom enchanted shield made for one hell of a farming experience. (luck increases the 'chance' that a special loot will appear. It does not effect 'what' loot will appear. see dungeon article.)

Loading tip about treasure chance[edit]

When entering some dungeon (I think was Ayleid ruin but I'm not sure) I saw loading tip, I could only see end of sentence about treasure find or something similar, I don't think was luck but something else, but it was too fast to read everything.If someone could open Oblivion and see loading tips in editor or something like that. — Unsigned comment by 88.207.105.177 (talk) at 08:31 on 8 June 2013

Luck skill boost applies how?[edit]

The article states that luck boosts your skills. Is this applied as a fortify, a base-skill boost, or an external addition? My purpose in asking this is if the level of your skill appears higher, does it affect levelling in the same manner as permanent fortify skill effects do? Luck doesn't actually raise your skills, it just affects how certain values are calculated. So if, for example, your Heavy Armor skill was at 40, you would receive a certain amount of protection for wearing a piece of heavy armor. With a Luck stat of 60, the amount of protection you would get from that piece of heavy armor would be calculated as if your Heavy Armor skill was 44, although your Heavy Armor stat itself wouldn't change. So to answer your question, your luck stat won't affect the leveling of your skills at all. ThuumofReason (talk) 18:47, 9 January 2014 (GMT)
