Aera Earth-Turner is a Nord farmer found living on Bleakrock Isle. After the Covenant attack, she evacuates with her husband, Denskar, son and daughter to Bal Foyen.

A Beginning at Bleakrock[edit]

She can be found standing on the porch of Snow-Bourne House. She talks about her daughter.

"That daughter of mine. You mark my words—she'll never amount to anything."
Why do you say that?
"She spends all day with that blacksmith. She wants to move to the mainland and spend her life at a forge.
That nice fisherman Otroggar has been trying to woo her for months. She won't even listen to him."

The Missing of Bleakrock[edit]

After you completed the quest, she will be listening on the evacuation orders:

"I don't understand any of this. We haven't evacuated since Captain Rana came. Is this some kind of practice evacuation?"

Sparking the Flame[edit]

After the Covenant sets fire to Bleakrock Village, Aera will be taking shelter in Tillrani Snow-Bourne's House. Once you put out the fire, you can go inside to have her leave the building:

"The soldiers are everywhere! Where's Tillrani? I thought I'd be safe with her!"
Tillrani's not here. Hurry! Run to the tomb.
"I'll bet she's there now. I'll see her there. Thank you!"

Speaking to her in front of Last Rest:

"I loved Tillrani, I really did, but I'm not going to let Trynhild run out of here lusting for revenge.
I forbid it!"

Escape From Bleakrock[edit]

After you disabled the traps in Last Rest, she will be among the refugees to cross safely.

Speaking to her on the shores of Dhalmora after the escape:

"I don't know what I'm going to do. Trynhild wants to run off and join the war. Littrek already has a sword.
My home, my family … what else can they take from me?"

As the Covenant's attack expands to the mainland, you will need to decide between defending Fort Zeren or the Bal Foyen docks. Since Littrek and Denskar are located at the fort, and Tryn at the docks, Aera is bound to lose a family member to the attacking Covenant army, which is an experience that substantially hardens her.

If By Sea[edit]

After examining the watchtower, she will relocate to Fort Zeren. She will take refuge inside one of the Fort Zeren Towers.

After completing the objectives for If By Sea, Aera will call out to you when you return to Dhalmora:

Aera Earth-Turner: "Hurry, friend. Bal Foyen is under attack!"

Speaking to her:

"Thank Kyne you've returned.
Everyone. They're all gone. My family is gone."
Where have they gone, Aera?
"They've gone to war.
And they're outnumbered. I fear everyone we know will be dead before the day is out."

Crossroads[edit]

You will learn from her that once the signal fires have been lit, the Covenant forces have divided up in two separate forces to target both the fort and docks:

"Damn the Covenant. My family was happy.
Well, maybe not happy. But they were content."
Aera, tell me what happened.
"The Covenant attacked in force when they saw the signal fires. Even now, they're marching on Fort Zeren.
Darj took some of the villagers there, including my men."
Should I go to the fort?
"Hold up. Captain Rana learned of a second force headed to the Bal Foyen docks. She's leading a group of warriors to repel that attack, but without aid ....
I'm afraid you must choose."
I understand. I have to choose between the docks and the fort.

You can ask her more questions after accepting the quest.

"I know it's a hard choice, but you must go to the fort or the docks."
Aera, can you help me decide?
"I don't know. Maybe I can help you talk it out.
What do you want to know?"
Won't the fort walls protect the refugees?
"I want to think so. I really do. But the Bretons are known for their magic. If they could find a way through or around those walls ...."
What about your family?
"I trust you. You've already saved us once. If you decide to go to Rana's aid, I know it will be the right call.
I know Darj will win the day."
Can't Rana defend the docks without me?
"Captain Rana knows her business. And she has capable people with her, including my daughter.
But the docks have no walls, no defensive positions."
You let your daughter go with Rana?
"I did. Trynhild is proud and stubborn, like her mother used to be."
Why hasn't the Covenant attacked Dhalmora?
"No idea. Perhaps their generals don't see a mud-brick village as a threat.
I wish they'd felt the same way about Bleakrock."

Speaking to her again:

"I know it's a hard choice, but you must go to the fort or the docks.
Lend your strength where you think it's needed most."

Breaking the Tide[edit]

If you choose to help the docks instead of the fort, Aera will be the only Bleakrock refugee who survives. She mourns the death of her husband and son.

"My poor Denskar and Littrek. If only there'd been more of us…."

Zeren in Peril[edit]

After helping Littrek and Denskar with their battle, you must talk to Aera who will be taking shelter with the rest of the villagers inside the tower:

"Glad to see you. I came to be with my men. The Daggers almost had us.
Go. Darj has need of you."
Where did he go?
"He went to the keep. Said something about a "master portal" opening at its heart.
A Covenant general is coming through."

Speaking to her again before helping Darj:

"Please. Don't let Darj down, not after he's done for us."

After the fort is saved:

"We … we won! We're still alive!
I can't wait to see Trynhild again. I have so much to tell her."

From this point on, you will encounter Aera at various locations throughout Stonefalls with the remaining Bleakrock veterans.

Davon's Watch[edit]

Aera will be mourning the loss of whichever of her family members died as a result of your choices after Crossroads.

"<Aera doesn't look up. Tears stream down her face as she quietly sobs.>"

Ebonheart[edit]

Aera can be found camping with the remaining Bleakrock refugees just outside of Ebonheart, on the east side of the Ebonheart Unified Metalworks. She is sitting further away while her husband and son spar nearby.

"My men insist that Tryn's death wasn't in vain, that she gave her life in defense of the powerless.
The Pact is stronger, but my heart is weaker. My Tryn …."

If Denskar and Littrek died:

"At least I've got my Tryn, right?
And Rexus. He's a good boy"

Kragenmoor[edit]

You can find her sleeping beneath a tree as Rexus watches over her. She is located east of the wayshrine, behind the Vanguard Captain who is berating his soldiers.

Later, she can be found in Shor's Stone where she is tracking a Clan Matron of the Reach. She asks you to kill the matron and all her followers for the side quest The Troubleshooter. You learn that Aera has joined the Ebonheart Pact, sworn revenge on the Covenant and has been killing their soldiers. She is a good tracker.

Aera Earth-Turner keeps a book in Shor's Stone of all the Worm Cultists she has "brought to justice." All of them died during the arrest or soon after.

During your adventures in Nimalten you will find out that Aera serves as a sergeant and is investigating the recent Worm Cult attacks against Thane Fjora. It is soon revealed that Aera is involved with the cult: she had made a pact with them, promising to kill the thane and her court mage in exchange for being able to see her dead family members again. When you track down Aera and confront her inside Nimalten Barrow you have a choice to either kill her, arrest her or let her go. If you kill her, you'll encounter her again in the Heart's Grief Vestibule during God of Schemes.

The Troubleshooter[edit]

After witnessing the release of Sinmur, Aera appears at a small camp beneath a tarp in Shor's Stone. When you approach her:

"If the Reach is pushing here then… Hmm, perhaps one of the Argonian trackers…"

She'll recognize you from Bleakrock and will ask you for a favor to hunt down a mark for her:

"How can I … oh! It's you!"
Aera? Is that you?
"Aye. I've finally found my way in the world. The Pact has given me purpose, a reason to live beyond Bleakrock.
I'm actually here on a mission, but I'm a bit over my head. Can I ask an old friend for help?"
Of course! What do you need?
"I've been tracking a dangerous Clan Matron of the Reach. She's meeting with a Covenant spy. Alone, I could take her. Here with her tribe, not a chance. Will you help?"
I'll get it done, Aera.

You can ask her more questions about what she's been up to after accepting the task.

"She's encamped just outside of town. With her followers. Put them all down, for the good of the Pact."
How have you been, Aera?
"Well enough. It's good to have a reason to get up in the morning. Without my family the way it was … it's easy to wallow in thoughts of Bleakrock. Of the good days."
What brings you to Shor's Stone?/What brought you here, then?
"The hunt for this Clan Matron. That's what I do, now. Denskar used to say I latched onto things like a momma bear. Wouldn't let anything go. Now I use that instinct for the Pact."
Look at you. What prompted this change?/How did you get this assignment?
"After my breakdown … some of the others pulled strings for me with Pact command. As I was training, we talked about what I would do. This seemed the perfect fit."
Breakdown?
"After Bal Foyen … I had a hard time. Losing family is never easy. I couldn't handle it. Even the others from Bleakrock just reminded me of everything I'd lost."
You're looking well now.
"Thank you. When I was raising kids on Bleakrock, I never thought I'd be here, doing what I do now. But I'm good at it."

Returning to her after killing Lenele Skullcarver:

"Every time I end a Worm Cult agent, I record their name in my logbook. You should add Linele and Lolann. You're the hero here. You always are."

Speaking with her after the quest:

"Good luck in your travels, my friend. I'm sure the Nords of Skyrim are grateful for your presence. Just as grateful as I am."

Concealed Weapons[edit]

You will meet her again in the Thane's Manor in Nimalten, where she is speaking with Thane Fjora.

Aera Earth-Turner: "You're not safe here, Fjora. Listen to reason."

Speaking to her before talking to the thane:

"We meet in dark times."
You look tired.
"A bit. Not from hunting the Worm Cult. I miss Bleakrock, my family whole and happy. How easy it is to let the best times in your life slip by without noticing."

Speaking to her after talking to the thane:

"I overheard your conversation with the thane. Let me know immediately if her advisors find anything."

You can ask about her well being as you could in Shor's Stone, only the place will be changed to "Nimalten" and the task to "This investigation.":

"We meet in dark times."
How are you doing?
"Well enough. It's good to have a reason to get up in the morning. Without my family the way it was…it's easy to wallow in thoughts of Bleakrock. Of the good days."
What brought you to Nimalten?

If you choose to speak to her before the thane after you started the quest:

"My friend! I would swear we only spoke days ago. I can see by the look on your face you know of Nimalten's dark times."

After you speak with both Borodin and Golun, depending who you spoke with last, she can either appear in the Mages Guild or the inn:

Aera Earth-Turner: "How goes the investigation?"

You will share your findings and she suggest you to search through Betar Ne's home for more clues:

"Nimalten reminds me of Bleakrock. All these good people, oblivious to danger. If only we could have protected my family <If Trynhild survived>/daughter <if Denskar and Littrek survived>.
Have you learned anything?"
Borodin's a drunk. He claims everyone in Nimalten is part of the cult.
"He's a fool. Has Golun uncovered anything interesting?"
He said he's close to uncovering what the cult wants.
"Oh? And what is that?"
He didn't say. He needed to examine a book in the thane's library.
"I'm eager to learn what he uncovers. In the meantime, would you investigate Betar-Nes's home? It's just south of the thane's hall. I trust you'll miss nothing."
I'll check it out.

Speaking with her again:

"Go, investigate Betar-Nes's home. I don't trust these locals to do a thorough search. You, I can trust."

Upon approaching the Thane's Hall, you can hear Aera Earth-Turner exclaiming to one of her elite soldiers:

Aera Earth-Turner: "A murder? On my watch!"

Golun has been murdered in the library and she needs you to investigate the scene of the crime:

"Oh! Good to see you. I have sad news: Golun is dead. We heard the sounds of a struggle. My soldiers and I arrived too late."
Where was he found?
"In the library, with a pair of smashed skeletons. The Worm Cult, I'm sure of it. But how did they get past my guards?"
I'll help the search.

Speaking with her further:

"First the attack against the thane and now this. I've asked my soldiers to take a more active role in defending the hall. I pray it's enough."
Aera, I was attacked in Betar-Nes's home. The cult knows I'm here.
"You're not afraid, are you? Stay strong, my friend. We'll find the heart of this corruption."

When you discover the truth behind Aera and track her down in the barrow, she'll be found praying at an altar. There are several letters on the altar as well as the path leading to her chamber, detailing her fall from grace and referencing her lost family members. Speak with her. The interaction will be different depending on who died on Bal Foyen.

If Littrek and Denskar died:

"So, you've come to kill me."
Aera, why did you do it?
"Do you remember Denskar? Littrek? Do you remember how they died, bleeding from Covenant blades? I watched it all. I watched them die. You can't know how painful that is."
What about Trynhild?
"I barely see Tryn. She's off on her missions. And she'll be dead soon, too, in this pointless war. The Worm Cult came when I was grieving. They said they could reunite me with my husband, my boy. All I had to do was pass information about the Pact."

If Trynhild died:

"So, you've come to kill me."
Aera, why did you do it? I saved your life.
"Do you remember Trynhild? My daughter? She died on the docks of Bal Foyen, cut apart by Covenant blades.
I don't blame you. I blame them, and myself. She's gone, and I'm alive. Do you know how painful that is?"
What about Denskar? Littrek?
"They're away, on "missions." I never see them, but it doesn't matter. They'll be dead soon, too.
The Worm Cult said they'd reunite me with Trynhild. All I had to do was pass information about the Pact."

If you haven't completed the Bal Foyen quests:

"So, you've come to kill me."
Why did you betray the Pact?
"Have you ever lost a child or a spouse? Do you know what that pain is like?
It's unbearable. The Worm Cult said they could bring them back. We'd be reunited. All I had to do was pass them information."

Regardless, the conversation continues:

You must have known that was a lie.
"Maybe. But I chose to believe. It wasn't just secrets. Soon the cult asked me to kill for them. Golun. Thane Fjora.
My family would despise what I've become. I'm done with the cult, but it's too late, isn't it?"
I can't let you live. You betrayed me and the Pact. / I can't let you live. You betrayed the Pact.
"Yes. I betrayed you, even after all you did for me and my family. But you'll end my pain, won't you? That's good. It's fitting. But I won't just lie down and die.
If you want to kill me, earn it!"
"The Pact. Of course. It's all about the Pact, isn't it? Everyone dies for the Pact. Well, why not add me to the tally? See if you're up for it!"
Come. Face justice, or face your death.
"Face justice? Perhaps. But face my family? No. I've hurt too many. I can't do anything about that rotting in a prison.
I'm leaving, going far away. Come after me if you want, but I won't just lie down and die."
"What justice can the Pact offer? To make up for all I've done by rotting in a cell?
I'm going far away from the Pact and the cult. Come after me if you want, but be ready to fight."
If you're truly done with the cult, then run away. I'll say you're dead.
"I must hide from the cult, and they'll be after you too.
But, why spare me, after all I've done? Never mind. I'll go and I won't be back. My family will forgive me someday, I hope. I won't waste the chance at life."

Exiting the conversation and speaking with her again before making your decision:

"Quit staring at me. Leave me be or kill me, just get it over with!"
You killed Golun and betrayed me. I can't let you live. / You killed Golun and betrayed the Pact. You have to die.
Come. Face justice, or face your death.
I won't kill you. Run. Never come back. I'll tell them you're dead.

Here you can choose to either kill her, tell her to face the Thane's justice, or urge her to run away. If you choose to exile her, she will run out of the crypt through the entrance, and you'll be prompted to run deeper into the crypt to face Morgane. If you choose to kill her, she'll run deeper into the crypt.

During the battle she'll bitterly remark:

Aera Earth-Turner: "Your legend ends now, hero of Bal Foyen."

Aera has written two letters that appear depending on who survived on Bal Foyen. A letter for Denskar appears if he is alive, and the one written for Trynhild appears if you helped Rana at the docks.

Skills and Abilities[edit]
Aspect of Terror
The enemy casts a spell that fears the player for a short time, in which they cannot move or perform any actions. This effect passes through block, and players can break free from it. This spell can be interrupted to set the enemy off balance, or avoided using roll dodge.
Summon Burdening Eye
The enemy summons a Burdening Eye that moves toward the player.
Shadow Cloak
If the target is in close proximity to the Fear Mage, they will turn themselves invisible and move to a better location.
Shadowy Duplicate
The Shadow Mage will teleport a short distance away, leaving a shadow in their place. The Shadow will then cast an AoE around itself and explode.
Ice Arrow
A basic ranged attack that does minor frost damage.

If you kill Aera, she will end up in Heart's Grief where she is continually tortured.

"My … my friend. I never thought to see you again. Please, end me. Put me out of my misery one more time."
After your betrayal, why should I?
"For my family. For what … what I once had, on that cold little island. I deserve this, I know. But please, I'm asking you as a friend. Let me be ended."

If you choose to free her, she dissolves into a pile of green sludge.

Aera Earth-Turner: "Thank … you …"
