Shattered and Scattered[edit]

Throughout your journey through the Doomvault to rescue the expedition members and stop the daedric rituals, the daedra Xigira will have been taunting Mirri about her brother. Eventually, you can reach both of them in the Anchor Chamber, a pit of lava will small islands, on the opposite side, Liam can be seen strapped into a device, which is slowly draining his soul.

Like with the other expedition members, you can approach freeing Liam two different ways. Firstly, you can destroy the Anchor Stone Array first, but the backlash can kill Liam. The other way is to destroy the two nearby Ritual Focus Crystals, Liam has a better chance of surviving. Liam, the array and the crystals can be reach by using Mirri's Grappling Bow.

When you destroy the Anchor Stone Array located in front of the device, your previous actions will decide what happens next:

Liam powering the Anchor Stone

If you destroyed the focus crystals before destroying the Anchor Stone Array, Liam will be freed:

Mirri Elendis: "Liam! Thank Vehk! I'll get you out of here."
Liam Elendis: "Mirri! I thought I'd never see you again!"
<The pair escape down the path and through a back entrance.>

However if you disrupt the ritual prematurely, Liam will die:

Mirri Elendis: "Liam … Almsivi guide you to our ancestors, little brother."
<Mirri then runs outside.>

After this, you can follow the path outside to speak to Mirri and complete the quest. If Liam is alive, you can talk to him:

"Thought I was finished there. Mirri too. I was praying to the Three that she wasn't going to share my fate. Someone was listening, because you're a real godsend."
Are you all right now?
"Yes, I think so. Still feeling drained, but I'm beginning to get sensation back in my chest. Really odd feeling, let me tell you. I don't recommend it.
Mirri brought me along to have someone she could trust, but I just ended up being a liability."
Did you learn anything about the cultist's plot while you were held prisoner?
"Just what I overheard. It's not like Xigira gloated about her genius plans while I was bound up. She mostly just yelled at me for Mirri causing trouble and told me all the horrible things that would happen when they tossed my soul to Mehrunes Dagon."
What did you overhear?
"Well, there was this one thing that stuck out. The cult Xigira was leading is much bigger than this group. Something about how this foothold would be vital to their ambitions. All rather typical cult drivel if you ask me."
She's clearly very protective of you. / Mirri is clearly very protective of you.
"Well, I'm the baby brother and Mirri takes her place as the eldest very seriously. She's more of a mother than our mother in some ways. Mom would call this a learning experience. Doesn't like to coddle."
Are you saying your mom would have left you behind?
"Oh, no! No! Mom would have beaten Xigira to death with a cookpan if it came down to it, she'd just lecture us about needing to be able to get ourselves out of a pinch without her.
You know how adventurers are."

Once you have spoken to Mirri, you can hear the siblings talk:

Mirri Elendis: "I should get word that we're safe to our parents as soon as possible. I hope to see you again soon. And Liam, straight to Leyawiin, you hear?"
Liam Elendis: "I just want a moment to catch my breath and thank your friend here. Mother."

Heroes of Blackwood[edit]

If you rescued Liam in the Doomvault and completed the Treasured Comrade achievement, Liam will attend the celebrations in Gideon along with Mirri:

"Mirri said you were involved in some big adventure, but I never thought she meant literally going to war with a Daedric Prince!"
He's been busy in Blackwood, as you know.
"I'm a little bit mad that Mirri didn't invite me to help you this time, but I won't pretend that I would have been any help at all. I barely got out of that scrape with the Waking Flame alive.
Just, don't let her get a big head about it. All right?"
No promises.
"Yeah, well, fair. Mirri might even be more headstrong than mother.
You take care of my sister though. Our dad will get an ulcer if you two are always off to Vehk knows where in Oblivion."
I'll try to keep her out of trouble.
"That's all a helpless baby brother can ask! At least until I can wrestle with four armed giants myself.
Hope to see you both again soon."
