Shadowrend Page[edit]

Does this item actually need its own page? Seems to me like it should be included on the Shivering:Weapons page. --GuildKnight (Talk) contribs 20:00, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Shivering:Weapons is already quite lengthy. That, combined with the fact that this is a leveled weapon that assumes either a blunt or blade form depending on the player's stats when they perform the quest that rewards it, makes this weapon notable enough to warant an entry page of its own, IMO. --— Unsigned comment by 65.14.2.104 (talk)
Actually, I was looking at this earlier, and I'm starting to think we should be dividing the Shivering Items weapons (and armor and clothing for that matter) the same way we do the Oblivion ones. Leveled on one page, unique on another page, generic on another. (There's actually a fair number of new generic weapons which use pre-expansion models with new enchantments that haven't even been mentioned on the site yet.) So, let's consider: Shivering:Unique Weapons, Shivering:Leveled Weapons, Shivering:Generic Weapons, just to start with? --TheRealLurlock Talk 22:26, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Sounds Sensible. 65.14.2.104 23:29, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Okay, I'm starting to grasp the breadth of the weapons... still, if this weapon keeps a page of its own, shouldn't it be a subpage of leveled weapons, like Shivering:Leveled Weapons/Shadowrend. --GuildKnight (Talk) contribs 18:43, 11 April 2007 (EDT)
Overall, I think the existing page name is more useful than a subpage, such as Shivering:Leveled_Weapons/Shadowrend. The subpage structure tells you what type of page it is, but that can be done just as efficiently with categories and bread crumb trails. And keeping the page name simple means less work for editors to add links, and means that the "Go" button on the search menu has a chance of finding the page if someone is looking for Shadowrend (or at least it will once some tweaks to the search engine have been implemented). We've been slowly moving away from using subpages for organization, although there are obviously some sections that would talk a lot of work to fix (such as Tamriel Books), and therefore have been left for now with the old organization. --NepheleTalk 19:24, 11 April 2007 (EDT)

Both Skills At 100[edit]

If you have both skills at 100, which do you get? — Unsigned comment by 80.73.215.69 (talk)

I keep getting a shield instead when I defeat my clone. — Unsigned comment by 203.206.4.184 (talk)
I can confirm that you get the claymore version if both skills are at 100. 77BeTa77 22:09, 11 March 2008 (EDT)

Console Codes[edit]

What is the console command to add shadowrend to your inventory?? — Unsigned comment by 71.97.149.112 (talk)

I've added the incomplete tag to the page, which will hopefully prompt somebody to fill in the missing console codes. --RpehTalk 08:45, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
There, I did it. Now someone else can clean it up, make it look all pretty-like, because I have no idea how to do that. --Saruuk 08:58, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
By gum that was fast work! I think it looks fine already, but I imagine somebody with better taste will tidy it up. --RpehTalk 09:23, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

What happens if both skills are at 100?[edit]

Which version would you receive? — Unsigned comment by 82.31.32.197 (talk)

In the case of a tie, you get the Claymore version. (I think) --Saruuk 18:57, 9 September 2007 (EDT)
Yes, confirmed. I've changed the article's text accordingly. --NepheleTalk 23:38, 12 September 2007 (EDT)

Repeated 30-35 Edits[edit]

To the editor who keeps adding the 30-35 edits: Since you may not be familiar with how to read your own Talk page, I'll post here to be doubly sure.

Your information keeps getting backed out (by a couple of different people now) because the Construction Set confirms that there are only versions of the sword up to level 30. There are several possible reasons that damage of your sword may be higher than the base of 28 that is marked on the sword, including Armorer modifications bringing damage above 28, the presense of mods, Strength increases beyond 100 (may require a mod...I'd have to check), and probably a few others I'm not thinking of. If you are utterly convinced that your information is correct, send me a private e-mail and I'll arrange for you to send me a copy of your saved game so that I can see for myself what is going on. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 02:46, 12 May 2008 (EDT)

You are right. I've acquired it at various levels, 30, 35, 53. They were all the same. Base damage of 28 is also correct, Strength above 100(tested with 125 base attribute; no Mod, just increased to 115 during "Addiction" then used the Oghnium Infinium) did not increase the base damage value. Reparing it to 125 condition at Strength 100+, Blade/Blunt 100+ will increase the damage value shown to 33, which is the same with Umbra(the sword) Only possible reason I can think of that may display its base damage value at weapon condition 100 to be greater than 28 is when it's not actually 100 but 100.45 etc.(game rounds these figures down) The weapon has a extremely high health so, health of 1004.5 may display its damage value to be 29, but I highly doubt it.--Webdemon00 13:44, 9 September 2008 (EDT)
Sorry, since the last post, the base damage value of Shadowrend at 100 condition (repaired by a smith) has increased to 30. I have no idea why. Nothing has change, and I haven't leveled up. But still, highest version of Shadowrend is 30+ --Webdemon00 00:30, 10 September 2008 (EDT)

Version of Shadowrend[edit]

When is the version of shadowrend that you receive determined, at the start of the quest, upon entering the grove, or when the clone is spawned? If anyone knows the answer to this, I think it should be added to Shadowrend and maybe Symbols of Office at the point in the quest where it is determined. However, I am fairly new here and will leave this decision to a more experienced member. Selvrin 20:05, 20 May 2008 (EDT)

I think it is determined by the time the quest starts. — Unsigned comment by Lucky the Cat Guy (talkcontribs) on 10 August 2008
From the article: "If your Blunt skill is greater than your Blade skill at the point when your Shadow Clone is created, you will receive the battleaxe. If your Blade skill is greater, or if the two skills have the same value, you will receive the claymore." –RpehTCE 02:42, 10 August 2008 (EDT)
I cannot verify this without the construction set, but from testing it looks like the article is incorrect, at least for the Xbox 360. I tried all sorts of fortify and drain spells and enchantments to effect which version my shadow clone had, but he always ended up with the blade. It wasn't until I used these spells before entering the Grove of Reflection that they worked. It looks like the version is determined as soon as your quest updates when you enter the zone (looking at the quest log it is stage 150). It also looks like a simple fortify is all you need. If both skills are over 100, but not equal, then the higher skill will be created. It is only if they are equal that the blade will be created. With my blunt fortified from 92 to 112, and my blade at 104 I got the blunt version. In another of my tests I used a six second drain 100 blade before entering the groove, which wore off quickly after the quest updated, and before my clone spawned. When the quest updated I had 4 blade and 92 blunt, when my clone spawned I had 104 blade and 92 blunt, and the blunt version was created. Can anyone with the construction editor verify if the script is attached to stage 150 or 155 of the quest, or if it really is attached to the process of creating your clone as the article says? If anyone on the 360 is having trouble altering the outcome of which version is created just try my suggestion anyway. It may be that Bethesda originally had it tied to the stage 150 update, but moved it to the clone creation on the PC, and that it never got updated on the 360. --shalley303 (talkcontribs) 20:26, 22 January 2009 (EST)
The script isn't attached to a quest stage - it's attached to the standing stone's creation. As soon as you enter the cell, and the stone is created, your clone is created too. It then appears later on. In other words, the article was right but it seems to be causing some confusion. I've changed the text to be more helpful. –RpehTCE 03:54, 24 January 2009 (EST)

Weapon Speed[edit]

The speed for Shadowrend is listed as .85. Is the .05 significant? I've looked around on other weapons and have not found any other speeds that go to the hundredth's place. Will Shadowrend actually swing faster than most other 2handed blades(which almost all seem to have a speed of .8 and a reach of 1.3)? SteviL 22:28, 13 November 2008 (EST)

Yes, but good luck spotting it in action! A difference of just 6.25% isn't going to be noticeable in most cases. –RpehTCE 00:44, 14 November 2008 (EST)
Of course it's noticeable. It makes a HUGE difference. This makes it the best weapon EVER! SteviL 12:07, 14 November 2008 (EST)

Shadowrend[edit]

I'm only level 16, almost 17 and Have umbra but cant do Clavicus Vile's quest. I read the page and it said that he may use umbra instead of Shadowrend. So I was wondering do you HAVE to take Shadowrend? and I cant do corrode weapon either :( — Unsigned comment by 71.233.232.133 (talk) on 13 March 2009

You don't have to take it, but Shadowrend is such a good weapon it's a shame not to. Just leave Umbra outside the Grove and attack with a less-powerful weapon. –RpehTCE 01:47, 13 March 2009 (EDT)

Shadowrend not working with sneak attacks?[edit]

Normally when I attack with a sword while undetected in sneak mode, I get the 6x damage multiplier. When I do this with Shadowrend, the message comes up on the screen, but it says "Sneak attack for 1x damage." I get no damage bonus for sneak attacks with Shadowrend! My character is level 34, and I have the highest leveled version of Shadowrend. I also have 100 blade and 98 sneak. Anybody else had this problem or know how to fix it? Chris3145 13:05, 23 March 2009 (EDT)

You won't get the multiplier with Shadowrend, because it is a two-handed weapon. Two-handed weapons don't get a sneak attack bonus, as noted here. --Gaebrial 03:34, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

Umbra and Shadowrend[edit]

It said on the article that if you have Umbra in you inventory, the clone will use it. This did not happen for me; at level 40, with blade 100, my clone still chose to use Shadowrend (I was using Goldbrand). Am I the only one? — Unsigned comment by 86.163.173.188 (talk) on 14 April 2009

You are correct. The script that creates the clone, also removes various items from it, including Umbra. I'm removing the example, as it is incorrect. --Timenn < talk > 11:24, 15 April 2009 (EDT)

Silence Ring?[edit]

If you were wearing a ring that was custom made to silence self, then removed it once you started fighting the clone, would it prevent the clone from casting spells, or would the clone remove it like you would? If so i think this is worth mentioning in the notes as a good way to silence the clone and prevent summoning weapons from the start. — Unsigned comment by Blktiger0 (talkcontribs) on 1 July 2009

Usually an NPC equips the most expensive gear. So if the ring you made is expensive enough, it will wear it. You can always temporarily place your other equipment somewhere else before fighting your clone. --Timenn-<talk> 11:12, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Wait until Shadowrend is unsheathed[edit]

You should wait until the sword is drawn by the corrupted clone, otherwise it will not be dropped. Obviously, I never give enemies time to attack, I always incapacitate them right away, usually using Calm, which I used on the corrupted clone as well. Well, I killed her, the sword was still sheathed, no way to get it. WRFan 20:23, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

It's generic advice for all unsheathed weapons. I've tweaked the phrase a bit, but kept the implication that the weapon should be unsheathed. --Timenn-<talk> 10:02, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

shield glitch?[edit]

when i went in there with my orc, the clone spawned as normal, but he had a shield equipped, and by that i mean that he was swinging an axe, two handed, but with a shield on his arm, clearly this should not have been visible, so what happened?— Unsigned comment by 87.177.29.176 (talk) at 13:45 on 11 April 2010

Sounds like something that happend on the ps3 for me, once, I had a torch, shield and dagger equipped, very helpful but not supposed to happen. ps3 was almost over-heated, could be same problem, or mods. Mikeyboy52 15:44, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
A bit late, yes, but My full Madness armored Imperial had quite a fight on his hands, since his shadow used the madness shield as well as the claymore. I will repeat the quest to see if I get the same results 184.77.194.254 21:35, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Skull of Corruption[edit]

If you use the Skull of Corruption on your clone, will the game reexamine your blade and blunt skills to determine which version of Shadowrend to create?— Unsigned comment by 24.147.53.43 (talk) at 23:39 on 25 April 2010

No, it will create an exact copy of what the Clone is right at that moment. --Arch-Mage MattTalk 23:42, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Get both?[edit]

Is it possible to get both shadowrend versions without the console?71.52.167.19 18:54, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

finished the quest?[edit]

what if you finished the quest and you forgot to pick up shadowrend? would you be able to get it at any way posible?

No it is not possable as the door you need to go through gets locked and you need a key as it can't be picked with a lockpick.

Actually it is possible by hex editing but i would'nt recommend it unless you know what you are doing

after deleting DLC[edit]

i deleted my dlc to make some hardrive space but when i re-downloaded it to play oblivion again i didnt have shadowrend yet i still had other various shivering items such as staff of sheogorath..any way to get shadowrend back?

I dont thinks so.blah

Shadowrend color[edit]

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered.

I've noticed that Shadowrend (claymore version) switches to a golden tint when repaired to 125%. Can someone else confirm this, or is it just a visual bug I'm having? --Corrosive0 20:23, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

I usually start TES games years late. So I've started the Main Quest for Shivering, am finishing 'The Helpless Army', and should be able to test this within the next week or two. Cas 00:58, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
I personally did not come across a golden tint. Can anyone confirm/refute? Cas (talk) 02:19, 23 October 2012 (GMT)
Both forms of Shadowrend are highly reflective. (You can often see the shapes of distant trees and buildings in it.) In exterior cells, they tend to take on the color of the sky. In Cyrodiil, this normally means that it's blue, but in Dementia it can be green and in Mania it can be gold. In interior cells, it's always black as shown on the page. 71.254.81.220 20:36, 18 May 2013 (GMT)
