  3. Confront Tyra at the shrine of Talos southwest of Windhelm.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Once you've reached level 32, head to a settlement and a courier will deliver the Letter from Tyra Blood-Fire. It is addressed to you personally, from a notorious leader of a bandit gang named Tyra Blood-Fire. Her gang has disbanded, and she now seeks the judgment of the Divines to atone for her past crimes. She believes that facing you in combat is the only way to receive this divine judgment, but first you must prove your character to her.

The letter instructs you to go to the docks in Windhelm and give alms to a local beggar. He sits on a mat down the end of the docks, near the East Empire Company offices. You will have the option to give him 1 gold, 100 gold, some wine, some bread, or to give him nothing and pray for his prosperity. Your choice is irrelevant, as you will be given the opportunity to face Tyra no matter which option you choose.

With this done, you will be directed to a shrine of Talos southwest of Windhelm, at the top of a small mountain overlooking the bridge next to the stables (map). Tyra is praying there, and as promised she will be hostile upon your approach. She is a dangerous enemy, as she possesses a full set of Ebony Plate Armor bearing powerful enchantments and dual wields two ebony swords in combat. Defeat her and loot her corpse for the valuable enchanted set of armor; with this quest completed, you will begin to find Ebony Plate items as random loot throughout Skyrim. You can also loot her for a single ruby, a copy of The Crimson Dirks, v1 explaining her origins, and a letter titled To (Player). The contents of this final letter is dependent on the choice you made when speaking with the beggar.

The letter received has 5 different middle parts.

Prayer for the Beggar - "You chose to pray for the beggar, putting your faith in the Divines. After all, maybe it isn't food or water people need, but hope in something greater than themselves. But the world is not a place where hope alone will save you. My advice to you is to seize your destiny. Don't wait for an idle god. Then you'll be a worthy judge and executioner for your enemies, just as you were for me."

Give 1 gold - "You gave the beggar a single septim. I like the amount. you did what you could without placing a burden on yourself. and yet, on its own a single piece does nothing for him. It's only when the entire town does their part, each one placing a septim, that the beggar has enough to eat. So my advice to you is to remember the value of company. Whether you're a bandit or a hero, no one can do it alone. You have to work together, one gold piece at a time, to do what needs to be done."

Give 100 Gold - "You gave the beggar a full purse of gold. You're someone who goes above and beyond, putting the lives of others above your own. But not even a thousand septims can save the life of every man, woman, and child. So my advice to you is to not fall victim to your kindness. There are people like me who will take advantage of it. And there are times when you'll have to make a hard decision for the greater again. Save who you can, but do what you must."

Give Bread - "You gave the beggar bread, a choice I agree with. Gold can be wasted. Wine can be a poison. But a meal can never be squandered. Perhaps if I had been given a similar gift, my life would have been different. As such, I deem you a worthy judge. Hopefully you will be a swift executioner. Either way, I thank you."

Give Wine - "You gave the beggar wine. It'll help him forget his troubles; give him a reprieve. But such gifts can quickly sour. Come morning, the beggar may regret your choice, or worse yet, he might repeat it. So my advice to you is to view every action in its entirety. Only then can you make your choices with clear eyes."

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ccBGSSSE063_Quest, ccBGSSSE063_MiscQuest stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest ccBGSSSE063_Quest, ccBGSSSE063_MiscQuest.
