Lore Issues[edit]
- There is a Helgi in the game, but she is a little girl's ghost. Same person mentioned in note?
- Who is Anise's sister?
- How does the bandits being sent by Anis make any sense after you kill her?
- It can't be confirmed that the little dead girl is the sister Anise was writing to (although if that little girl was an aspiring witch, it would help explain how she arose as a ghost). The page as currently written is likely misleading. These particular bandits may carry a bounty note with them explaining their motivation, I don't know, I don't think I've ever encountered them. But if I had to guess, I would assume that the bandits found out you killed Anise and wanted vengeance of their own initiative, and were not actually "sent" by Anise.
- Of course, if Helgi really was Anise's sister, it would support the idea that maybe Anise, too, can conquer death and become a ghost (it is, after all, an ability mages have exhibited since the first TES game). In which case, Anise's ghost could have commissioned the bandits directly.
-
- Letter to Helgi mentions Anise's sister coming soon, to form a coven. As in 3 diferrent people. Anise refers to her as "my sister" therefore implying that sister and Helgi are not related. — Unsigned comment by 66.189.157.187 (talk) at 13:06 on 2 January 2012

- Frankly, I'm not sure how reliable the basic information is; it's possible an editor misinterpreted something. Anyways, without additional information and verification, we can't say one way or the other, and thus the article should remain mute on why the bandits attack or who sent them, and merely say that the player will eventually be attacked by a group of bandits after killing her. - Note: The "Helgi" mentioned in the letter is in old woman Helgi that lives in Riverwood very close to Anise's cabin. She is located at "Sven and Helgi's house" on the same side of the street as the Riverwood trader. She is Sven's Mother the old woman, Sven being the boy mentioned in Anise's letter.
- No, that's Hilde. --LosTheFail 19:14, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

(←) Possible Helgi: isn't it possible that Helgi is a nickname for Helgrid in Windhelm? Like Mike for Michael, Angie for Angela. Just a thought. — Unsigned comment by 97.76.229.2 (talk) at 13:58 on 7 June 2012
- The only Helgi is the little girl murdered in Morthal. Since Anise's Letter states "renounce that boy of yours" we can speculate that she is either 1) mother 2) married or engaged. Her "sister" refers to another witch she is in contact with in trying to "form a proper coven." Without another letter revealing either the woman (and this letter is still to be sent) or another letter to "the sister" mentioned, we cannot know either identity.
- I assume the Helgi mentioned became a changed name or else the NPC was never put into the game. Hilde of Riverwood, mother of Sven, seems the most likely contact since she always calls her son "my boy" even though he's a grown man; and she lives in Riverwood, the closest village to Anise's cabin. Helgird of Windhelm has no known relations (She maintains the Hall of the Dead.) However, "boy of yours" could refer to any female-male relationship since Anise is an old woman and likely seen several generations. Other women in Riverwood: Sigrid married to Alvor (Dorthe daughter), Gerdur married to Hod (Frodnar son). Riverwood doesn't have to be the only destination town, and it's possible this was a Helgi of Helgen which was destroyed utterly with most of the townsfolk. This would also explain why the letter has remained on the table.
- We can only speculate why Anise thinks the witch coven needs to be secret: 1) illegal? 2) avoid harassment/witch hunters 3) avoid contact 4) personal reasons. Bandits are sent automatically sometimes when you steal from someone. Even if goods are not labeled "steal," taking from someone's house can prompt one mercenary group spawning later with a note detailing who desired revenge. This would seem to be a minor glitch since this action is not "broken" even if you kill her. If it can be confirmed Moira sends the bandits, then she must be the "sister." 75.249.199.252 20:23, 2 November 2012 (GMT)
- I can confirm that Moira sends hired thugs if you kill Anise, not steal from her. Many other players have experienced the same thing. See Anise's talk page for more details.64.135.48.170 13:00, 8 May 2013 (GMT)
- She will send hired thugs if you kill or steal from Anise; it can happen with either one, or it could not happen at all, because that's how these random generic things work. The connection may be that they are both in Hagraven Faction. They do not have a relationship in the game files. Vely►t►e 18:37, 8 May 2013 (GMT)

Needs Verification, Possible Storage House[edit]
- Apothecary Satchel in cellar being static storage.
- I just tested this by putting an item in the Apothecary satchel in the basement, one in a barrel in the basement, and one in the cupboard upstairs. I went to the inn in Riverwood and waited for 32 straight days and returned to check on things. Everything was still there, both upstairs and in the basement.
- Upon further investigation, two small sacks next to the ladder did replenish their contents. This confirms that the basement did have enough time for the containers to respawn their items, and yet the items I placed were safe. The set of drawers upstairs (near the bed and the trapdoor) also did not reset their contents, despite me not placing items in them before.
- I conclude that the containers at Anise's Cabin are safe to use for storage, except the sacks. I'll be doing so for this character, and seeing whether this pattern sticks.Chunk of Ham 02:02, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

- I am currently storing things at the shack as well until I can afford a home, in everything but the barrel upstairs (which I was told resets) and any of the sacks/bags. Actually, everything's just in one of the cabinets downstairs. Since it's the beginning of the game, I will not be too upset if I lose anything, but will report back if I do. 67.67.218.156 03:12, 8 December 2011 (UTC)MsDalfo

- Update: Bought the house, went back for my goods stored here. Everything was where I left it, but I only put things in the cabinet right next to the ladder downstairs. The items were there for a few in-game days. I confirm that at least the downstairs cabinet is safe. 206.77.151.209 20:12, 8 December 2011 (UTC)MsDalfo

- This is great. I really think this should be explored further and added to the Containers page (safe containers). (Is there a way for a PC user to verify in the game stats that the containers mentioned will not respawn?) I hate having to wait for loading and running around to get to storage, plus it's free! In my opinion, the best storage are safe containers, that are just past a central fast travel location. --Amsuko 08:14, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Safe House Test Notes[edit]
On XBox, tested once for 10-day respawning, patch 1.3.7
- UPDATE: Tested for 30-day respawning (33 days of waiting) - all Results the same. --Amsuko 19:53, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
I just stole and took EVERYTHING from the house. I placed a few of my own items inside each container and on various open shelves. I fast-traveled to "Katla's Farm" (the stable near the city of Solitude), & went inside the tavern, waited 12 days (update: 33 days with a game save and load between at the 12th day), left, and fast-traveled back to the house. Basic Results:
- Don't use the barrel upstairs.
- Advice: Don't place loose items (for display) on the: Dinner table, 2nd shelf of cupboard upstairs, any shelf of cupboard downstairs
- You get an alchemy table, an enchanting table, & a bed (with Rested perk: skills improve 5% faster for 8hrs)
- You get 2 easy storage containers (5 total) on the first floor; and you get 2 easy (5 total) in the cellar.
- The house is open (no loading, except to go downstairs)
- The house is VERY open (weather, such as rain and fog, go through the house as if there were no walls/roof) Could WIND from a storm blow loose items around?
Detailed results:
- Things that came back:
- Kettle outside house
- Shovel in garden
- All 7 garden plants regrew
- Hanging food: rabbit, mirriam, garlic
- Clutter (mugs, plates, buckets)
- one pair of Hide boots
- FIRST FLOOR:
- 1st Cupboard just inside the doorway:
- Bottom shelf is empty.
- Upper shelf is re-filled with clutter.
- Inside storage area SAFELY stored my items.
- Barrel next to 1st cupboard
- NOT SAFE - new fruit clutter respawned
- Sacks next to Barrel (2 sacks, 1 large sack)
- SAFELY stored my items
- Dinner Table - Don't Use
- Clutter (dishes) came back
- item placed on table was unmoved, but items appeared under it
- Apothecary's Satchel on shelf by foot of bed
- SAFE
- Shelf by foot of bed
- both shelves are empty (useable)
- item placed on shelf was unmoved
- Dresser
- one clutter tankard returned, rest of shelf is empty
- Inside storage area SAFELY stored my items
- item placed on shelf was unmoved
- INSIDE CELLAR:
- Sacks near base of ladder (2 sacks and 1 large sack)
- SAFELY stored items
- Shelf by alchemy table
- both shelves are empty (useable)
- item placed on shelf was unmoved
- Alchemy Table
- item placed on table was unmoved
- Arcane Enchanter table
- item placed on table was unmoved
- Long shelf/table with un-stealable lantern and skull
- shelf is empty
- item placed on shelf was unmoved
- Barrel (downstairs)
- SAFELY stored items
- Cupboard (downstairs) with un-stealable skulls and cloth
- Inside storage area SAFELY stored items
- no items respawned on the shelves, but the items placed on the shelves were on the floor
*Notes:
-
- You have to "steal" from the storage containers, but there's no one around to see you (except your follower or horse). However, your items don't get flagged as stolen when you put them in and take them out.
- Anise's dead body is still there, but also still looted
- Some Thugs that I had killed very near Anise's body were gone
- I removed
- everything from all containers (sacks, furniture, barrels, etc.)
- all loose items (items on shelves & items on floor, buckets, mugs, books on shelves, the coinpurse behind a bucket, plants, the bow, etc.)
- harvested garden plants and the hanging food inside
- I did NOT harvest wildflowers naturally growing around outside of house

- Thank you for this analysis. If only every area in the game had this level of detailed information available. I just repeated approximately the same test on the Special Edition on PC, and I can confirm that all of this is still accurate today. One important tip I'd like to add: the flawless emerald found in the deer skeleton on the ledge east of the cabin also respawns! It's valued at 750 gold, well over everything inside the house combined. --Olaus (talk) 01:19, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
Dark Brotherhood Assassain?[edit]
I think there might be an affect I just started a new game I was level 3 and I didn't know she'd attack you if you "found out" her secret. Anyway I killed her and I was just outside Dragonbridge a few hours later I was attacked by a Argonian Dark Brotherhood assassin. I hadn't completed any quests yet I was free roaming the wilds to gain levels and was a shock indeed. So I believe it was more than a mere coincidence that I was attacked after I had killed her a few hours later. --Lore Master 18:54, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
Adverse Effect of killing Anise?[edit]
Can it be confirmed that there are no adverse effects if Anise is killed?
- Yes, no adverse effects, only positive, fastest storage, alchemy and enchanting location early available. The only thing to consider is the ambush of 3 hired thugs, for level 1 player a bit heavy.
-
- Only 2 thugs attacked me, I have restarted on a nice few characters and this is the only time 2 have showed up to kill me, but they looked different and had steel armor on this time, I was around level 6. Probable that they died on the way or one got lost in the woods somewhere.
- I killed her when a Level 4 Khajiit and was almost immediately jumped by two Novice Necromancers, who raised her. They were pretty incompetent though and didn't present much of a challenge to eliminate. --174.6.51.17 08:01, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

- After I killed her I had 3 hired thugs attack me in Riverwood. They were heavily armed (battle axes & warhammers) and armored. Luckily I had found a high spot near Bleakfalls Barrow that I could get to & they couldn't so I keep shooting my arrows until they were all dead. There was a note from Moira on the bodies that said they were supposed to "teach the theif a lesson". Although the note mentions that they don't need to kill me, they would not accept my yield and kept attacking until I was dead. Because of the note I can only assume that they came after me because I stole some of the items from the basement containers marked "Steal" from. Anise did not see me steal any item as she was already dead. Later in the game after I killed the 3 thugs a Dark Brotherhood assassin was sent to kill me. This has now happened three times. I was told that once the contract is out on a person it stays in effect until they are dead or join the Dark Brotherhood. I have just finished the quest "A Night To Remember" where I kill Moira. I am hoping with her gone I will not have to keep fighting off the Dark Brotherhood assassins.
- I noticed that my last post on this subject has been eliminated but I just added a new one warning players to look at the discussion page for possible problems using Anise's cabin. New players should be warned of such dire consequences before it wrecks their game!! Please leave my last post in as a warning to them! — Unsigned comment by 75.15.95.135 (talk) at 17:46 on August 2, 2012
- This is not specific to Anise's Cabin in any way and is random. Steal, Thugs hunt player is a common occurrence that can happen when you steal from anyone, and it's random who it happens with. The Dark Brotherhood Assassin will commonly attack you regardless of whether or not you've even spoken with anyone or stolen something outside of Helgen. As these things are not related, they have been removed from the page. Vely►t►e 22:05, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

"safe" storage info seems misleading?[edit]
It seemed misleading to me that the chart says "Anise's Cabin" has a "Reset Time" of "Never (storage is safe)." The notes on this page, (and a reference on the Containers talk page), says that only the Cellar, (which the note calls the "basement"), is set to never reset. The chart's wording would make a person think the containers in the "Anise's Cabin" area would also be safe and never reset, when it's only the cellar. --Amsuko 04:11, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
much wrong with this faq[edit]
All I did was visit and try to talk to her and was later attacked by thugs. When I read the letter and returned to her house I was greeted by one angry anise talking about Boone will learn her secret. After I killed her went downstairs and came back up I was ambushed by 2 vampire apprentices and I am only lvl 4 have not done any mission other than the first few college of wintergold ones — Unsigned comment by 98.202.104.105 (talk) at 00:42 on 3 June 2012
- The thugs are becasue you stole something from the cabin (she doesn't need to have seen you for this to happen). She turns hostile after you enter the basement, even if you didn't read the letter down there. I don't know where the vampire's are from, but it may be a random encounter. The Silencer has spokenTalk 00:53, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
- Apprentices aren't random. They come for Anise, but if you kill her, they will attack you. You can help anise fighting, but she dies quickly in the battle. — Unsigned comment by 193.200.51.220 (talk) at 11:55 on 1 July 2012
- Apprentices? Assuming you mean Hired Thugs, that's not so. They attack the player on sight and their appearance is entirely random, based only on whether you assault/kill someone or steal something. Kitkat •Talk•Contrib•E-mail 12:11, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Developer Safe Storage Confirmation[edit]
I've been reading, and can't figure out what the safe storages in Anise's Cabin are. It seems alot of the loot initially in the main cabin as well as in the basement tends to respawn. So I'm guessing the only safe storage is the basement? Has any of this actually been confirmed the basement and all the containers in it are safe for permanent storage? Also, does it mean I can leave stuff on the floor of the basement, and it will be there when I get back? — Unsigned comment by 76.18.0.113 (talk) at 01:32 on 6 July 2012
- The notes section answers all but whether items dropped are safe. They usually are but you would be safer to test first. The Silencer speaksTalk 00:39, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- The main page of the article has respawn time as "never" meaning storage is safe. However there are 2 parts to the cabin. The main cabin and the basement. The article itself needs to be make clear that all containers in the main cabin as well as in the basement are safe for item storage (if that is indeed the case).
- I've noticed alot of different experiences in the talk section of this article regarding the validity of safe storage. So does this location actually have safe storage or not? I personally don't know how to check the code to confirm safe storage locations. Hopefully somebody can help out by verifying everything, and let us know if all the containers in both parts of the cabin are safe for storage. Or if not, then provide a list of all the containers, and let us know which ones are safe. Next time I log in, I'll try to list down every container in the cabin.
- I can confirm that when I first visited the cabin, I removed everything that was laying around everywhere as well as everything inside all of the containers. Thus far, I noticed that some of the items laying around have respawned. — Unsigned comment by 76.18.0.113 (talk) at 17:40 on 7 July 2012
Setownership console command[edit]
I moved the following from the page to here:
- Players on PC can use the
setownership
console command to remove the "steal from" tag, for aesthetics, but they can also use it on the bed so they can obtain the "well rested" bonus, instead of just the "rested" one.
I don't think we want to document possible console commands on Skyrim articles. There are to many out there, they are not available to many players and the particular command here is not specific to this location. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:04, 22 December 2012 (GMT)
Faendal does not agree[edit]
I took Faendal with me in the basement, but when I tried to trade with him he said: "You're not supposed to be here". — Unsigned comment by 77.162.14.246 (talk) at 22:27 on 17 January 2013 (GMT)
- That would be because Faendal has a morality that doesn't tolerate any crime (although he won't report them). Going into Anise's basement counts as trespassing, resulting in his reaction. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 22:27, 17 January 2013 (GMT)

(←) I am currently playing the Special Edition on PC. I have Faendal as my follower and he trades with me in the cellar without any issue. The only mod that I have that 'may' be a factor as far as I know is the Unofficial Patch. I do seem to recall having followers not wanting to trade with me in this location on the regular edition, but I can't be positive. - The only thing I can see is the USKP 2.0.1 makes a hidden quest for the shack finish when Anise is dead. The quest has an entry to 'EvaluatePackage' when the witch is dead, so it may be that the package is supposed to remove ownership at that point. If you could test the ownership, and test with another follower, and then a game without USLEEP we could see what has been changed. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:03, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

why after finding out shes a witch and she attacks me first and killing in self defense, is it considered stealing when you loot her or her house, but the bed is no longer owned and i can use it to rest? this has always bothered me with TES games, it can be bandits, murderers, highwaymen, assassins, ect..... and they're dead, WHY IS IT STEALING!!!!!!!!Drizzit Do'Urden (talk) 17:25, 11 July 2013 (GMT)
