Undead Classification[edit]

Are we sure that these are counted as undead? My Dawnguard Rune Axe doesn't seem to do sun damage to them. Morganmarz (talk) 22:24, 10 December 2012 (GMT)

I would guess not, their race lacks the undead keyword. But what about Detect Undead, does it detect them? --Alfwyn (talk) 22:33, 10 December 2012 (GMT)
I tested this on the Xbox 360, twice with 'normal' Ash Spawn and the Ash Spawn from the cleansing temple quest. The ones from the temple lit up, while normal ones did nothing. Its possible this is because that the temple ones are specifically referenced to be rising out of the dead individuals ashes.
But on a side note, does anyone know what there resistances are? IE does fire magic do nothing, do they take bonus damage from frost etc?Chronic (talk) 22:43, 12 December 2012 (GMT)
They are NOT Undead or Living at all... Absorb Health Enchantment works on anything that is living (Undead technically are living. Undead = Creatures that was once dead and now alive again). Absorb Health doesn't work on Ash Spawn. The only other enemies that Absorb Health doesn't work on are Dwarven Machinery. So they are probably similar to Dwarven Machinery except with Ash instead of Metal. — Unsigned comment by 172.129.54.63 (talk) at 02:59 on 25 December 2012‎
It seems to me that it might be accurate to refer to these things as golems, since they are not living, and never have been, unless you count the ones created from cremated ashes. 205.188.116.75 07:07, 10 February 2013 (GMT)
We can only refer to them as the game refers to them. Golems don't exist in skyrim, so we are definitely not referring to them as such. The game treats them like draugr, so it is likely that they are undead. In terms of resistances, they have a 75% resistance to fire, and a 100% resistance to poison. They can also breathe underwater. Jeancey (talk) 07:18, 10 February 2013 (GMT)
There have been golems in Elder Scrolls in the past however, and while the Ash Spawn obviously use the template of Draugr, and act identically to draugr, however, strictly speaking, they don't seem to actually be undead. Simply animated ash, like golems are made of other animated non-organic materiels. A better way to test this would be seeing if they are weak to other anti-undead weapons, like Dawnbreaker or the Dawnguard sun spells. 205.188.116.203 02:54, 20 February 2013 (GMT)
I don't think they should be classified as Undead, Turn Undead and Sun Damage do not apply to them. 117.5.16.243 13:38, 28 February 2013 (GMT)

() It's rather tricky. We could list them as Monsters, the animation used for their body being irrelevant to their nature. But that would be ignoring the fact that the ones found in the Temple Ancestral Tomb use the ashes of the dead to rise, making them undead, at least in part. In could be speculated that others rise from the ashes of people who were burned during the eruption of Red Mountain, or simply ashes of Dunmer from Solstheim which were discarded in the wild - much like it sometime happens in real life. The fact that they don't react to Detect Undead could be an oversight. The other hypothesis would be that they are "spirits", sort of like the Spriggan, and the ones in the Temple simply decided to possess ashes of dead people.

The same goes for Ash Guardians. Yes, they look a lot like Atronachs, and like them are often encountered with mages, but are they really Daedra? I guess we could find out by testing the Banish Daedra spell against them, but then again it could simply be the developers having forgotten to delete a flag or two.

I guess the point was that the players, like the people in Solstheim, would not be able to discover the true nature of Ash creatures. Maybe we should just name them that? "Ash Creatures". It's what they are and, in the end, it's the only thing we truly know; everything else is just speculation. Elakyn (talk) 18:41, 28 February 2013 (GMT)

I've tested Turn Undead type spells on them and they're usually too high of a level but do get staggered. I test on the ones that attack the Raven Rock gate area. They also are subject to Silver Weapons bonus damage. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 18:45, 28 February 2013 (GMT)
Are you sure about that, Lord Eyvar? When I use any kind of turn undead or sun damage spells on them, it simply said they resisted them, no stagger or anything. Checking with the CK reveals that they have 3 keyword: ActorTypeDwarven, DLC2AshSpawnKeyword and UpdateDuringArchery. Silver weapons bonus also only affects actor with key word: WerewolfBeastRace, ActorTypeUndead and ActorTypeGhost. Sine Ash spawn does not have any of those three, they should not be subject to Silver weapons bonus damage. I don't get your result.117.5.17.149 17:45, 5 March 2013 (GMT)
They count as Automaton, killing them raises the 'Automaton Killed' counter. — Unsigned comment by 88.78.56.104 (talk) at 10:07 on 26 March 2013 (GMT)‎
I can verify they raise the the "Automatons Killed" count. perhaps this should be noted on the page. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 10:44, 26 March 2013 (GMT)

Ash Spawn Image Requested[edit]

I removed the tag for the 3 different ash spawns, as I have screen shots of each one, and they all look identical outside of what they use in combat. If anyone can spot a difference, anything noticeable to most people, I could just upload the images I have. I see no reason for this otherwise. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 00:08, 14 February 2013 (GMT)

Incorrect spells?[edit]

I have NEVER seen an ash spawn use ash rune and ash shell, the only ash spell I have seen them use is a projectile which just explodes and deals damage but does not encase me in hardened ash.--82.46.168.98 21:37, 25 April 2013 (GMT)

I agree, I've never seen them cast those spells; but the article says they have the ability, not that they cast them. This information was likely gained through the Creation Kit. If it was, then it could very well be that Ash Spawns do know those spells but their AI never actually implements them. If that's the case, it should be investigated and added to the Bugs section. -- Scum (talk) 00:14, 22 May 2013 (GMT)

Aura Whisper[edit]

Ash Spawn do show up with Aura Whisper. I'd add it to the article, but I'm unsure how to do so without ruining the flow of the entire paragraph. Swk3000 (talk) 02:00, 1 July 2013 (GMT)

Unrelenting Force[edit]

Ash spawns appear to be immune from unrelenting force, along with many other Solstheim creatures, such as all types of seekers and lurkers. Is this consistent with what other people have found?— Unsigned comment by 96.231.65.222 (talk) at 23:57 on 11 August 2013

No, I've found that I can ragdoll ash spawn. Seekers and lurkers (if I remember right) cannot be ragdolled, at least not to my memory. *WoahBro►talk 04:01, 12 August 2013 (GMT)

Talvas Fathryon never has the Conjure Ash Spawn spell for sale.[edit]

I don't have the Conjure Ash Spawn spell, nor do I have the Spell Tome (obviously), and when I attempt to see Talvas' wears for sale, he does not have the spell tome for sale.

I tried resetting the vendor by saving the game, attacking him, and reloading the saved game. It did not work.

I am a high elf at level 160+, have defeated Alduin, completed the thieves guild quests, and defeated Miraak. Furthermore, I have homes all over the place, etc.

I am using the Xbox One Skyrim SE Anniversary edition with no mods and the default stuff that you get in the latest updates for creation club that were free with those updates.

All these extra spells, artifacts, and so on often push a vendor's inventory to exceed the allotted data structures for holding their inventory to exclude needed things like amulets in the case of the Skyrim:Radiant Raiment vendors. 216.58.27.138 05:34, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
