former glory- true?

Somewhere in the introduction to the thieves guild, they mention that it would return to it's former glory if you do jobs for them - is this true? Does something change if you do some of the repeating quests? (Not talking about the thieve-story-quest here ofcourse) — Unsigned comment by 77.20.66.83 (talk) at 15:53 on 13 November 2011

- yes apparently it is true and you have to establish the guild in every city by doing 5 quests there. Then you get the guild master armor — Unsigned comment by 84.181.118.120 (talk) at 14:59 on 16 November 2011

Mysterious Gem

The mysterious gem lead me to the thevies guild but i can find out how to get rid of it — Unsigned comment by 24.218.185.93 (talk) at 02:58 on 17 November 2011

- Talk to Vex about it, it's a quest item that you'll never be able to get rid of until you find all of them. --Cdevine 04:15, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
- I was able to drop them in a chest at my houses once they became identified as "Stones of Barenziah" (Xbox360) — Unsigned comment by 75.71.114.55 (talk) at 19:30 on 30 November 2011
This is not possible on PC version 1.3.10.0. --Jreynolds2Talk 05:20, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
The Unusual Gem is a quest item, and cannot normally be removed from your inventory until the related quest No Stone Unturned is completed. After it is appraised by Vex during this quest, the stone is re-named "The Stone of Barenziah." Additional stones that you collect will also have this name. These are also quest items, and cannot normally be removed from your inventory until the quest is completed. --Jreynolds2Talk 05:20, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Returning the Thieves Guild to it's Former Glory

I have more information on Returning the Thieves Guild to it's former Glory if someone can make use of it.When you do 5 jobs from Vex and/or Delvin in a city, Delvin gives you a special request job that establishes the power/influence of the Thieves Guild in that city.

There is a visible change to the Thieves Guild as you finish the jobs for each city. After finishing the special job a new merchant moves into the Ragged Flagon. A total of three merchants and a blacksmith eventually begin to trade in the Flagon. Not sure if the order of apperance is random or tied to a specific city. Also the shelves and tables in the Guild become filled with items and food, as if people are actually living there now, and more new recruits join the Guild. Less obvious changes include the animal hides on the floor changing to proper rugs/carpets and other upgrades of furniture/accesories of the guild. — Unsigned comment by 41.132.196.55 (talk) at 08:38 on 17 November 2011

The rugs seemed to be a silly, unimportant "upgrade". I could have went and STOLEN some damn rugs if they really wanted me to.-Zydrate[][] 19:10, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
You forgot to mention that the fence in the Ragged Flagon also increases the amount of gold she has as you complete the special quests. After 3 special quests she will give you a misc quest to take a bag of moon sugar to the khajit caravan master, which turns all of the khajit caravans into fences. — Unsigned comment by 184.61.112.100 (talk) at 05:35 on 20 November 2011
Does this mean that in order to get Guild Master's armor, you must first complete all these quests and then complete the main storyline for the guild?--Shm0key 23:20, 21 November 2011 (UTC)shm0key
I've done well over 30 of the random quests and have seen no change in the Guild's Treasure room. This should not be so. --Lauriy 11:23, 23 November 2011
Have you completed the main questline? Are you talking to Delvin? He refers to the quests that do the upgrades as "special" quests. But none of this takes effect until you've done the Twilight Sepulcher.-Zydrate[][] 15:25, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
It appears yes, though order of completion doesn't matter. — Unsigned comment by Ikthyace (talkcontribs) at 19:05 on 5 December 2011

() I explained how to get Guild Master in an edit to the article but it looks like someone wiped all the stuff I added. Sigh. Well you have to do 5 random quests for Vex or Delvin from the same city. After you do 5 in the same city go talk to Delvin (ONLY Delvin offers the city tasks, Vex won't) and he'll offer the special task for the city. Can someone please add this to the wiki, because when I did someone apparently randomly deleted it. I could understand editing it to be more wiki-friendly but why delete it? Its genuine info and more importantly its a facet of the Guild that most people don't properly understand.--Miraa 03:31, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Because that's information better suited for another page, like the extra work or the last quest.-Zydrate[][] 18:53, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
i have done 5 extra jobs and nothing has happened, no special contract has happened so os it something you do AFTER completing the main guild guest or can it happen anytime? i really doubt the latter as it has not happened to me so far, to be honest though i just do the same type of extra quests such as burglary or numbers. 86.186.126.162 21:27, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Has to be done after you complete the main line, and the five jobs have to take place in the same city. Doesn't matter what "kind" of job you take. It's very random. Theoretically, you could end up doing 20 jobs before they give you a special one because they won't send you to a city that you need.-Zydrate[][] 05:25, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
i have tried again and it can be done before the main guild quest, the reason it didn't work for me before was because the five jobs were in riften and its only solitude, markarth, whiterun and windhelm that has the specdial contacts. i have done them all now and have just started the main thieves guild guest. 86.186.126.162 02:13, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Yea, they've already got a hold in Riften thanks to Maven. So quests there don't "count". It's why I usually quit jobs in cities I've already completed.-Zydrate[][] 19:12, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
This is definetly not the case. I got both Whiterun special job (Before first meeting Karliah) and the Windhelm and Solitude jobs (Before grabbing the Falmer Eyes) and got the merchant upgrades to boot (Tonila continued to have more cash on hand and merchants began to show up)before completing the main questline. --Ikthyace — Unsigned comment by Ikthyace (talkcontribs) at 19:05 on 5 December 2011

() To save some time, save your game right before you ask for jobs, if you get one in a city you dont need, reload the save and it will change every time. Keeps you from wasting a lot of time doing pointless jobs that get you no where.(i will confirm that it is 5 jobs per city to get each special quest) -I the DUFFMAN I — Unsigned comment by 98.195.45.44 (talk) at 07:10 on 27 November 2011

Uh. To save even more time... You can just quit them? Please don't give false information.-Zydrate[][] 16:47, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
This information is useful if the quests are randomly generated and change after each reload. I would rather reload and get an acceptable Numbers than quit/ask and have to do a Bedlam -Rob 16:39, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
That's not false information, on the PC "quitting them" is just an F9 away, much faster than the sluggish dialog interface 173.178.0.153 05:50, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

() i have done more than five quests for each city and delvin is not giving special jobs. i've completed the main quest and i'm worried this is a bug. — Unsigned comment by 66.36.131.244 (talk) at 21:19 on 27 November 2011

In the completed section of your quest log, you can scroll through and check. Look for the small quest names, then look at the actual details of the quest status. (example: Quest name "The Heist Job", objective "Retrieve the <gold emerald ring> from <Markarth Stables> in <Markarth>) StormFireKitty 15:34, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Larceny Targets "Bug"

It seems that beyond a certain point, most likely the end of the story arc (return the key) Delvin Mallory will no longer buy any of the larceny targets from you. Kind of annoying as I managed to miss a couple, since I didn't realise they were tied to the story quests (just assumed they were random items scattered about to find), so I had to go back to get some and he wouldn't accept them. Placing them on the shelves in the cistern is a no-go as when you return they'll be all over the floor.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone can confirm the exact cause so that this "bug"/caveat can be noted for other players doing these quests to be aware of. I haven't fully restored the guild yet, but I see no reason why Delvin shouldn't be able to accept these items indefinitely? Is it worth reporting as a bug in case it can be snuck into a patch? As it's easily possible for someone to delay selling the left eye of the falmer in favour of finishing the next quest, which will result in them being unable to sell it to Delvin. Haravikk 11:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

I only found out about the items after the quests and I went back and got all of them. I didn't have any problem turning them in. It might be that the dialog option is restored after the quests are finished. --Vertigo 20:44, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
I missed the map and the cube, went back to get them and I'm unable to turn them in. I've completed the main quest and returned the guild to its former glory, so that might be the end mark of when he will accept them. AlphaOmega 23:56, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
I haven't returned the guild to its former glory yet, so it's not that. However, I finished the actual story quest line for the guild (returned the key) which seemed like the problem for me. Vertigo, which quests did you complete, all of them? I did sell the eye of the falmer to delvin before going back to get the rest of the items though, perhaps that could be the cause since that is the last item? Haravikk 11:47, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
I was able to turn in every missed item except the Gray Fox bust. Upon picking it up, it doesn't even trigger the "Bring this item to Delvin" quest thing... so now I'm stuck with it. No idea why it only happened for this item. 98.210.244.99 21:41, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
I had missed 4 or 5 and went out to get them all in one trip, as i picked each one up i got misc quests to take them to delvin but as soon as i picked up the last item, it popped up that every one of them was completed. i dont think progress with anything else effects it. Innovacious 12:58, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
I got he same Problem like my "PreSpeaker". Everything triggers fine until you pick up the last item, then all of them get completed without returning them. Hopefully fixed with a Patch soon. — Unsigned comment by 93.229.207.41 (talk) at 15:01 on 24 November 2011

() Actually, now that you mention it this may have been what happened to me as well, as I definitely got the return to delvin objective for at least one of the objects, but when I actually tried to do it the objective was gone and he wouldn't accept any of the items. Innovacious, which items did you turn in before going back for the others? Haravikk 11:55, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Right, so give in all the other ones before picking up the gray fox bust (i figured this out myself but i see you already know :c). But then there's this bust. Does anyone know the questid and stage that's supposed to trigger when you pick it up? It should fix if you do the right setstage command. --Bonabopn 19:53, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
You guys are on to the problem. I have them all except the map. I just went to pick up the map and nothing happened. It's something about the last item. — Unsigned comment by 75.141.231.101 (talk) at 02:10 on 28 November 2011
i had falmer eye bug and couldn't fix it with console "setstage TGLarceny 80" Sanguin 11:00, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
I did some testing, and i think picking up the bust sets the stage to 200, which ends the quest; even if you've not gotten everything yet. Doing "setstage TGLarceny 75" before picking it up will pay you for it and put it on the desk like it's supposed to, but you might as well "disable" the real bust if you do that. Although i have found that i can now drop the bust, maybe they updated it? You might want to keep one in your house. --Bonabopn 15:14, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
The above doesn't seem accurate. If the quest completed when you 'picked up' the bust then you should not be able to hand in any items, including the bust. However when I returned to him I was able to hand in 3 at a time including the bust. The order did not matter. However I was not able to hand in the falmer eye. I highly suspect this is NOT a larceny target. Especially since it has a weight, a value, is resellable and does not count as a quest item. It is concievable it =was= a larceny target but was removed due to the possible exploit of both handing it in to delvin then picking it up and selling it again. — Unsigned comment by 70.26.59.215 (talk) at 01:54 on 19 December 2011

() I think there is something special that's supposed to trigger when you find the last one. Was anybody able to actually get all 7? Perhaps before completing some other quest? I suspect it's impossible to get a reward for more than 6 of these. I also ran into this bug and left the queen bee statue where it was because since I've turned in the other 6, I get no quest from picking it up. It's always the 7th that breaks things. There must be some different quest attached to #7 that's broken.--76.98.59.192 20:07, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

I have found all of them, have not completed the Thieves story line (give the key), Delvin only offeres his three side jobs. there was no triggered quest upon picking the first Item up. I was wondering if I have to complete his side jobs first.(NP) 12/6/2011 — Unsigned comment by 14.56.151.162 (talk) at 11:42 on 6 December 2011
Similar Issue. Completed the main quest line (Returned the Key) but have NOT returned the Guild to its Glory yet. Missed a couple of the items (Map and Bust) from beforehand. Picked up the map and turned it in to Delvin just fine. Went to pick up the bust; no quest trigger. Reloading is not much of an option, since I've logged a LOT of time since I finished that quest line. 2011-Jan-2 — Unsigned comment by 68.117.105.38 (talk) at 21:52 on 2 January 2012
Same issue, and I did not yet pick up the bust. The only way to fix it, was to use console to advance quest (setstage TGLarceny). Once the stage is marked as completed, the item appears in the treasury. — Unsigned comment by 216.221.62.92 (talk) at 06:31 on 9 January 2012

Safe Storage?

Is there any confirmed safe storage in the Cistern or Ragged Flagon? — Unsigned comment by 98.217.3.231 (talk) at 23:04 on 21 November 2011

Not sure, give it a test and let us know. If it's not an owned chest you should be OK. I have a feeling the chest near the unowned bed should be OK.... --Cdevine 23:09, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Lockpicking Training Chests, Possible Bug

() I think the training chests are bugged in that they seem to follow the same rules as other things in the world that relock. I have been unable to gain anymore experience from them. Regarding Page Edits

At some point yesterday, the page was edited from a note containing:

Another thing to take into account is occasionally Vex's jobs will take place in the same city as Delvin's, I.E. A Sweep job and a Bedlam job both in Windhelm. Should this be the case, The value of the objects assigned to be stolen in Vex's jobs apply to Delvins's Bedlam job, allowing you to complete both at once.

to instead read:

Vex's jobs will take place in the same city as Delvin's, A Sweep Job and A Bedlam Job are both in Windhelm. The value of the objects assigned to be stolen in Vex's jobs apply to Delvins's Bedlam job, so you may complete both at once.

Which has been chopped down so much it's now inaccurate and misleading.

Vex's jobs do not always take place in the same city as Delvin's, and the "Sweep" job and the "Bedlam" do not only take place in Windhelm. The original edit was correct and should have been left so.Llwynn 07:51, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

The tool tip was changed again, it's still wrong. Of the 40 or so random jobs, Vex's and Delvin's job's only match up about 30% of the time.Llwynn 17:49, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
I have never had Vex and Delvin's jobs appear in the same city. Tosborne1215 04:05, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I am glad someone else already posted on this. As of December 5th, 2011 it reads "Vex's jobs will take place in the same city as Delvin's (PS3 Version: this may not be the case as have had different towns assigned from each at the same time), A Sweep Job and A Bedlam Job are both in Windhelm. The value of the objects assigned to be stolen in Vex's jobs apply to Delvins's Bedlam job, so you may complete both at once." which is not true. Can we pull up a changelog of some sort and see who keeps doing this? Ikthyace 19:10, 5 December 2011
Could always look at the history. I also agree, I've done the Thieves Guild about four times now and they rarely give me the same city for both jobs.-Zydrate[][] 19:11, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I reverted it back to my original text and moved it to a more appropriate section (just under Delvin and Vex's quest listings) since I had originally listed it under "Improving the Thieves Guild" which wasn't quite the right spot.Llwynn 19:27, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

() - On PC, I did have jobs in same city. Whiterun. - Red — Unsigned comment by 216.221.62.92 (talk) at 06:36 on 9 January 2012

The 30% observation is close, but a bit high in my experience; it's been more likt 15% to 20% for me, but that could just be the luck of the draw. At any rate, it's fairly easy to get jobs in the same city or even in the city you want. Just get one from either Vex or Delvin and keep quitting and asking for a new job until you hit the city you want. Once you've got that, repeat the process with the other one until you get a job in the same city. Both of them will give you a hard time about quitting a job, but will immediately let you take another one. I haven't noticed any adverse effects from doing this, but it does count as "failed quests" in you journal. Marstinson 04:39, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Possible Bug with Mercer's Shelves?

So, today I started up Skyrim for the first time since probably Sunday. My last save was in the Ragged Flagon Cistern, pre 1.3 patch (I'm on PC), and as soon as it started up, I noticed an object on the shelves behind Mercer Frey's desk that I'd never noticed there before, so I went up and investigated. It was a Jeweled Candlestick, in the topmost cubby of the right shelf behind Mercer. I've definitely never seen it before and I don't know when it showed up, as I definitely didn't steal it. The other two things on the shelves are the Honningbrew Decanter and the East Empire Company map, both of which I stole myself. I was just about to talk to Mercer about what I learned from Gulum-Ei.

Also, the Jeweled Candlestick has the "Steal" option on it, but when I activate it, nothing happens. Is this an important object I'm supposed to get later on that would show up on Mercer's shelves or did someone else in the guild steal it? I'm not sure if this is going to be a major problem or not... Please help? 75.18.195.46 02:50, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

I am having this same issue on the Xbox. I just came back to the Flagon after quite some time, so the last time I was there was with the 1.2 patch. I have three items on the shelves that should be there, plus the jeweled candlestick. I've only done the first five quests (my current guild quest is to go meet Mercer at Snow Veil Sanctum), though I've done a number of the side jobs (mostly bedlam jobs). What have you done in the guild? If you've also done a number of side jobs, maybe that means the side jobs add items too once you've done enough of them. 70.169.102.106 04:01, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
If you've done some jobs from Vex,either than the ones in which you have to plant stuff into other peoples houses, some things your stole may appear on the shelves.I dont know for sure about the candlestick though,i just assumed it was something i stole but some of the other things i remember stealing showed up. — Unsigned comment by 79.114.241.142 (talk) at 21:01 on 24 January 2012

Training Room Bug

When I enter the Thieves Guild training room and attempt to lockpick the training chests, a member within the room will tell me "You're not really allowed in here you know" or similar phrasing. As far as I'm aware, this is simply them reacting to the fact that ANY attempt to pick a lock is considered a crime, even if it's not a crime to take the items from the chests. Simply wait until they aren't looking, or ignore them. You don't receive anything bad like a bounty or such from picking the locks. 216.59.247.35 08:15, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

I am not sure where it would go but if you murder someone in the guild (I used a sneak attack so they did not turn hostile) they will not talk to you or offer services. I have no intention to lvl my pickpocket since i have other priorities, here is what i did...everytime you get that fishing job i wait the person to be alone or at least not close to guards, remain undetected (mostly i use invisibility from illusion or muffle) then use the ice shout that turns them into ice, once in the floor i use healing hands and at the same time i spam click the button to pickpocket, works 100% but u might have to pay a lil fee after it, i didnt get caught tho i just take the ring put my weapons down and run xD. — Unsigned comment by 91.156.24.146 (talk) at 10:17 on 24 January 2012

Guild Master

So I did the four special quests but I still havent been told anything on how to become the guild master. I thought if I did more jobs then Delven would say something but I've done 9 and he hasnt. I even talked to everyone in the guild just incase I was missing something but so far no luck. I'm out of ideas. Can anyone tell me if theres something I'm forgetting or got wrong or is this just a huge bug that I cant fix? — Unsigned comment by 173.44.79.32 (talk) at 16:43 on 3 January 2012

Have you completed the main thieves guild questline? Have you upgraded a piece of your thieves armour? Kimi the Elf 16:47, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
I gained the 4 main cities. I thought after that I'd have the option of upgrading my armor and then become master but nothings happening. Im guessing theres more to this that I'm just not seeing. I've looked up tones of stuff and they all said after I did the 4 quests to gain the cities someone would tell me to talk to Brynjolf and the rest would be self explainatory. but like I said, nothings happening — Unsigned comment by 173.44.79.32 (talk) at 18:35 on 3 January 2012
Have you returned the skeleton key? Maybe try speaking to Tonilia? What does Brynjolf say? Kimi the Elf 19:06, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Okay now I know Im missing something. This is the first I've heard of the skeleton key. to help make things easier here's what I've done so far. I joined(obveously)did the little tasks they wanted me to do when I started. then did a bunch of little jobs until I eventually gained the 4 cities. I thought that was it but apairently Im way off — Unsigned comment by 173.44.79.32 (talk) at 19:18 on 3 January 2012
That explains it then. You need to complete the Thieve's Guild Questline as well. 216.59.247.35 08:20, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

() I also can't upgrade to master and I've completed all 4 cities main quest, the theives guild main story and byrnjolf is dead because of the main story so I have nobody to speak to about upgrading.. returned the skeleton key and everything. — Unsigned comment by 173.191.143.99 (talk) at 13:36 on 16 January 2012
