Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
On a road overlooking the daedric ruin of Veranzaris, just west of Bal Foyen, stands a skeleton, alongside a corpse and a cart. The skeleton will assure you that "there's a perfectly good explanation for this" as you approach. It transpires that the skeleton, named Saylenus Ramaril, is the victim of an illusion experiment gone wrong. Ask him about Clivius Corruvian, the dead man by his feet, and he will explain that the elderly gentleman died of a heart attack as Saylenus tried to flag him down.
This has somewhat put Saylenus off making further public appearances. He requests instead that you help him bury Clivius, firstly by finding a shovel if you do not have one. A shovel can be bought in Bal Foyen, which is along the road to the east - one of the local traders will have one.
Shovel acquired, return to Saylenus. You'll find two Hlaalu patrolmen have surrounded him - and will order you to stand back while they deal with the skeletal "horror". Speak to them about the illusion experiment. You'll have two options here, or three if you have three dispel potions in your inventory.
1. "No, he's a person. He's just partly invisible." (hidden Debate check)
2. "Go ahead." (initiates combat)
3. "Just wait a moment. I have potions that will cure him." (available only with 3x potions of dispel)
Option 1 is a Debate check. This check measures your Speechcraft and Intelligence, with Luck providing a small bonus. It also is effected by your levels of fatigue (so attempt the conversation with full fatigue in order to have the best chance of success), and the subject's disposition towards you - higher is better. If you fail the check, the guards will attack Saylenus. You'll need to ensure they die, or else fail the quest. If you succeed, they will back off, averting catastrophe.
Option 2 simply allows the guards to initiate combat with Saylenus. Again, if you do not wish to fail the quest, you'll need to ensure that he survives the combat.
Option 3 will induce the guards to stand back, allowing you to speak with Saylenus and supply him with the potions.
Regardless of how the encounter is resolved, speak to Saylenus about Clivius Corruvian to bury the man (assuming you brought the shovel). Then, if you have not already cured his condition, talk to him about his illusion experiment. He'll ask you to obtain three potions of Dispel for him. Again, you can find these in Bal Foyen - try the alchemist or apothecary stores, and remember that you can sleep for a day to reset their inventory.
Once you have secured the potions, bring them to Saylenus, who will drink them to turn visible once more. Grateful, he will reward you by teaching you a powerful Chameleon spell.
Notes[edit]
- In the current release, Saylenus only asks you for three potions of cure dispel after the guard encounter, meaning there is no way to predict their need.
