Load Balancing

As some of you may know I'm in the process of adding additional content servers (well, at least one more) to allow a load balancing configuration. Most of the site slow response time issues in the past year have simply been due to the one content server receiving more requests than it can server (CPU limited). Load balancing will currently just be done at our single Squid cache server which sees about 99% of all incoming traffic.

I just enabled the load balancing to use the content1/content2 servers and immediately saw a huge drop in server load. I'll be leaving in enabled for at least this weekend while I'm able to keep a close eye on things.

If you see, or you hear of, any issues, errors, etc... let me know via IRC or my talk page so I can see if they related to the new setup or not. -- Daveh 13:26, 28 February 2009 (EST)

One issue I've noticed so far is that some pages (like Tes3Mod:Tamriel_Rebuilt/Her_Hands) have display issues when being served from content2. I'm not sure of the exact cause but I'll continue to look into it. It may be because the MediaWiki file cache on content1 has not been rebuilt in a while but that will have to wait until a lower traffic time. -- Daveh 10:21, 1 March 2009 (EST)
