When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).
Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games on the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Enjoy and have fun! Forfeit (talk) 18:34, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
Npc Dialogues[edit]
Hey Cailin! You're doing a wonderful job with adding the npc dialogues to the pages! Would it be possible if you try to use this format -
- :;Your line.
- :''"NPC line."''
It will look like this:
-
- Your line.
- "NPC line."
Perhaps also add some links, if possible (sadly, I have been slacking with that myself... :S). Additionally, if you feel that you want to, you could remove the "stub" tag from minor NPC pages, if it's clear that they have all the basic information in place, and there's no specific quest information or anything missing. It's up to you, I'm just suggesting it in case you are interested! Hugs, Tib (talk) 17:59, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks for the kind words! I'm actually glad you had a recommendation about the format, I couldn't find a guideline for this anywhere, sadly, so I just went up and copied the format from other NPC pages that already had the dialogue. Sorry for the extra work! It's definitely better to have all the pages with the same format. I hope I'll get around to re-formatting, that including the links (...yeah, I kinda have the intention to fill them in, but then I get bored, oops.) Removing the stub tag was a thing I was considering but I thought I'm not really experienced enough to decide, but sure, if they have no quest and the basic info is there, then it makes sense to consider it done. Cheers, Cailin (talk) 18:22, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

- Sorry, I forgot to add a reply here, there was actually a discussion about the dialogue format. I think we sort of agreed on a standard, although the discussion died out in the end haha. I might have pushed it too far.. *shy* You can see it on Community Portal http://en.uesp.net/wiki/UESPWiki:Community_Portal#Dialogue_formatting And btw, you do not need to do anything you do not feel comfortable with, e.g. remove stubs. Just do what you enjoy the most. I prefer having people adding content over everything being perfect and effective! No pressure. And yes, you need to take breaks from dialogue writing, it can get horribly boring haha. Tib (talk) 14:04, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
Cookie[edit]
You have been given a cookie! Your dedication and diligence to the wiki has not gone unnoticed. A user has seen the progress you've made, and has given you a cookie because of it. Good work! The user had the following to say: |
- Wow, thank you! I'm happy to make those almost-empty pages, well, marginally less numerous :) Cailin (talk) 19:05, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
ESO images[edit]
Hey Cailin, I need to point out just a few minor things about images. Also, thank you for working on Morrowind NPC's, I hope you keep contributing! (We shall not let Jeancey claim the sole right on these!)
- The standard is .jpg format, and .png is unfortunately discouraged
- Try to get the image as an exact square, because otherwise it will be flagged as a non-square image
- The "img" and "imgdesc" lines are already included in the template, one of the first lines up there actually. So no need to write it by hand ;)
- Well, there's always the image guidelines in case you need to check anything. Or ask on Discord if you are using it, the UESP channel is very much active there and you get (mostly) quick answers. Keep up the good work you've been doing!
Hugs, Tib (talk) 09:53, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your comments again. I'm a complete noob at adding images but I guessed even less-than-perfect ones are better than none, right? I'll keep to jpg and nice squares then. Also lol thanks for pointing it out about the "image" lines, I might have noticed that after like a hundred ones and then I'd have to facepalm even harder. Thanks for cleaning up the mess after me! (Again.) Cailin (talk) 22:34, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Eso Character Pages[edit]
Hi there. You don't know me, but I woke up this morning and saw that you had edited quite a number of npc pages in ESO, and have added their dialogue. Let me just say... thank you! Its greatly appreciated.Timeoin (talk) 20:56, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi! Thank you, it feels really nice that it's noticeable, even though I've been kinda lazy lately. I hope that at least the base game dialogues will be complete, sometime :) I am concentrating on AD now, but there seems to be no end of those either :D Cheers, Cailin (talk) 17:50, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Generic Characters[edit]
Hello Cailin.
First of all - please keep up the good work adding to the ESO content. (Its the hardest game to add content for as there is so much content, and lack of construcgion set), so - good job helping add content for characters. Just a minor thing, would you mind adding Locations as a header for those generic characters? That way, if one of the others sees it before I do, its more obvious what needs adding. If yes - awesome! If not, no drama, I'll get around to it eventually. Anyways - tyvm for your additions, and have an amazing day. (Final note - im just an editor like you, so dont take that an "order" or anything, just a polite reques from an obsessed editor. Timeoin (talk) 23:21, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi. That sounds like a reasonable thing to do, I'll try not to forget about it. Cailin (talk) 23:30, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
Ven Barthis[edit]
Just wanted to say... good catch! I edited the page, and completely missed them both! Timeoin (talk) 21:22, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hello! With so much text to edit, it just happens, I think. When I stumble back on a page where I've already added the dialogue, I sometimes find the most embarrassing typos, especially if they have more than one or two lines! Cailin (talk) 10:12, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
College of Aldmeri Propriety[edit]
Honestly? It was kind of random. I had some screenshots of dialogue from when I first played the game on PC, back in 2014. Was going through segments of it, and slowly adding. There isn't really any particular order as such though, no. (I have been uploading what I have. But I may have missed stuff, as at the time I was more focussed on NPC pics than the dialogue, so I'm missing some lines here and there. (Not to mention there are MANY characters that have been added since Beta/Pre-Update 1). In short - Up to you. Tomorrow I will be going back to PTS screenshots/notes (today was too tired to concentrate on what I was screenshotting). So - up to you. I don't mind either way. Either way, one of us will likely be doing it at some point :) Timeoin (talk) 11:16, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- Is your character either Bosmer or Khajiit btw? I've done this objective on xbox more recently, and some of the dialogue is different if you are one of the "beast" races they are here to train. Timeoin (talk) 11:38, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- I do have a Bosmer character, but I'm also sadly missing the Khajiit options (this time, I won't forget to mark them as missing!) I looked up others' videos which reminded me that non-AD races will also have different options (but I guess I won't add those versions as I didn't check them in person).
- Taking note of those placeholder NPCs is a good idea - do they have a list page? I do sometimes note them but it could be more organized. Cailin (talk) 11:56, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, Bosmer and Khajiit would likely have slightly different dialogue.(Hadnt thought of that). The dialogue i have mostly completed (at least with this location) is a Nord or something, so standard dialogue. As for the followers - there isnt a big list page (yet), as there isnt enough of them to warrant page creation proposal. (Its better in namespace-land until its more fleshed out).
What I have got so far (very VERY early days so far) is here. Feel free to help if you find any - they're the kind of thing that is confusing (and thus, people may search for), but also hard to collate. So It'll take a while. :) Timeoin (talk) 12:12, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

- I'll keep an eye out for them - if I happen to find a quest with unknown placeholder NPC, I might still add it (if the quest location is available even when not doing the quests, they still should be visible, right? so we can know at least what needs to be looked up.)
- I hope I will be interested in redoing the AD questline again sometime in the future. I wish I wouldn't get bored after doing a quest twice, and I definitely couldn't be so perfectionist as to make a page like Cast Adrift with all the possible options. Huh. Cailin (talk) 12:34, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

- As an example of missing dialogue - I believe I am missing the section when Zaban is discovered by Baham, as my screenshots jump from "find zaban and get some weapons" to Baham talking about Zaban's body. Timeoin (talk) 20:04, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
- The Baandari camp is ambushed and they are all dead by the time you get there - I don't think you've missed anything. I can add some explanatory text between the dialogue parts to make it clear what happened (I really try to give some context most of the time). The ambush is ordered by Tanion before our eyes, actually, but I didn't really catch it until I started to type it in lol. Cailin (talk) 19:09, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
[edit]
But if you're doing quests, and you have another player nearby, can you also keep a note of any "followers" they have? Whenever there's a quest where an NPC accompanies you, even for a short time, there's a placeholder-npc that is used when you see someone else doing that same stage. They're hard to determine other than physically seeing them. (An example of what I mean is in Quendeluun: Eranamo is what you see on that quest stage. If i was on that same stage, and I see you, I will then see your version as Disguised Pact Soldier. :) Timeoin (talk) 11:43, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
Nim[edit]
Nim can be a car if he wants too! (Also, nice pickup! I totally missed that I'd made it) Timeoin (talk) 21:17, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- I certainly didn't want to forbid Nim that! I support cats who are cars. (It might look like I'm disproportionately editing pages you've edited, but you just have so many edits it's unavoidable...) Cailin (talk) 19:27, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Dialogue[edit]
Regarding dialogue for NPCs - i added them when I was playing on Pc - but its ridiculously annoying on phone and console (i make a lot of silly typos this way). As to the dialogue itself, one almost way to know if they have quest related dialogue is if they are not a merchant, and are "friendly" (i.e unkillable). Exception being anyone in outlaws refuge. Timeoin (talk) 06:52, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
- I just thought you probably have seen almost all the pages by now XD Hm, I did not mean those quest-related dialogues - I definitely mean justice neutral NPCs, you hover over them with the cursor and get no prompt to 'talk' to them and when pushing the 'activate' button, you don't get the dialogue screen where the npc is fixed on the left side of the screen with the text on the right, they will just say these lines without forcing you to stop, no subtitle appears and then they revert to generic greetings. I guess I'll try to make a video or something so I can explain it better :D Thanks anyway. Cheers Cailin (talk) 22:11, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
Userpatroller[edit]
Hey Cailin, I'm posting to let you know you qualify for Userpatroller status. Userpatroller is the first step towards becoming more involved with the UESP. If you're interested, just add your name to the page under applicants. You can then also add its neat userbox to your page. --Ilaro (talk) 23:38, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
