Lore Book Icon[edit]

So, since as part of the Zone Guide feature, Update 21 is adding an official icon for Lore Books, I figure we should be using it on the map instead of the generic one we have now. It's normally black-and-white: ON-mapicon-Lore Book.png, but I took the liberty of dyeing it blue so it will still stand out on the map: ON-icon-Lore Book.png. This would replace the existing icon for lore books. No rush, but whenever you get around to it. (It might need to be shrunk down so as to not be huge on the map - will have to see it in action to be sure.) — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:11, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

Done! Check it out and let me know if its needs to be made a different size. You'll probably have to clear your cache or do a forced reload on the lore book icon (here). -- Daveh (talk) 16:18, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
Looks alright. Maybe it could stand to be a bit smaller, but it's not too bad as is. (Those stairs icons I made were definitely too big the first time around, but these are okay.) It would still be nice to have icon-type filtering to hide and show certain markers, as it can get a bit busy at some zoom levels. But I get that it might be a bit of a problem to implement that... — TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:31, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Made it a little smaller. Been thinking about the filter for a while now too but there are a lot (>100) of different icons. Could do it on the Map Key page. Click to enable/disable each icon. Or have predefined groups of icons you could enable/disable together. -- Daveh (talk) 18:34, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
We could copy the filters seen in the actual game, but we'd have to add a bunch because there's stuff on our map that isn't on the in-game map (at least without addons). Certain groupings are obvious - the multiple alliance versions of keeps, farms, mines, etc. would be grouped together, as would the multiple colors of fishing hole pins. The regular and group versions of delves, locales, etc. could be grouped (the group versions only appear in Craglorn so far, so not much benefit there.) Crafting stations could all group together, as could all merchants. At least two of the icons on the key are longer used anywhere - the old Group Dungeon and Public Dungeon icons, and there's a number of icons that are situational and would never appear on our map, e.g. Forward Camp, Elder Scroll, Border Keep (the white un-aligned version). We could probably hash out some sensible grouping for the rest. The Map Key page does seem like the most sensible place to do that, maybe just add some checkboxes next to them? — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:36, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

ESO Skill Browser[edit]

http://esoitem.uesp.net/viewSkills.php Skill data last updated on 2019-Feb-25 19:50:45. But racial passives are not updated. Also racial icons are incorrect. Please check out the other skills, maybe they also incorrectly updated. AlexL (talk) 13:19, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Ran into some issues exporting/importing data yesterday so the displayed skills/CPs are still from update 20 and only the raw data is updated to Wrathstone. Should be able to get the new skills out today sometime. -- Daveh (talk) 15:48, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you! But why have racial icons still not been updated? AlexL (talk) 07:11, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Icons should have been updated...I'll double-check them today. -- Daveh (talk) 11:18, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
For example, my dunmer passive skills https://imgur.com/a/WlBYZHF AlexL (talk) 12:09, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Looks like you are using LuiExtended or a similar addon which uses custom icons for these skills. The icons in the skill browser are the ones currently in-game. -- Daveh (talk) 13:32, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
Oh, I'm so sorry. Thanks for taking the time for me! AlexL (talk) 15:19, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
No worries! I saw the same new icons on my characters and had to figure out where they came from! Forgot that Lui gives you a bunch of custom icons. -- Daveh (talk) 15:24, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Discord[edit]

Hi, sorry to bother you, but I've sent you a PM on discord. Thal-J (talk) 06:58, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

Meta: Technical Reading Suggestion[edit]

Successful Request for Admin[edit]

Ilaro just went through an RfA with full support. He's ready to go forward, with your discretionary support of course. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:24, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Done! -- Daveh (talk) 12:48, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

Volendrung skills?[edit]

On this page https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Artifacts I saw that Volendrung "replace all their skills with a new set of unique skills". But I cannot find it here: http://esoitem.uesp.net/viewSkills.php.

Ahh, good suggestion. Will look into adding a skill line for this and future artifacts. -- 72.39.75.25 23:26, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Map glitches[edit]

Hi,

Recently Skyrim map started showing glitches For example https://srmap.uesp.net/?centeron=Kagrenzel Does not show map tles, only blue background

Missing Dark Brotherhood maps[edit]

The maps for the DB Sacraments appear to be mostly missing. We only have the main maps for Sewer Tenement, Smuggler's Den, and Trader's Cove, all of which are incorrectly listed under Hew's Bane instead of Gold Coast. What's missing is all of the maps showing the secret rooms. We have these maps for all the Thieves Guild heist locations, but the DB ones are missing. It's possible these maps exist somewhere, but if they do, their names didn't show up when I searched, so they may have some unusual unrelated names. It would be very helpful if we could somehow get a list of "orphaned" maps which aren't linked from anywhere starting from the Aurbis map. This would help connect up maps that aren't named in an obvious way. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:47, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Never mind - I found them. Still incorrectly grouped of course. But at least I've got them all linked up now. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 01:03, 20 July 2019 (UTC)

Skyrim Map feature additions[edit]

Hey Dave.

I've added some suggestions for new features concerning the Skyrim map. Link here (hotspot locations and the section following that). I'd be interested in helping to develop them if you'd like to follow up on that. Johanson69 (talk) 09:17, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

Thoughts? Johanson69 (talk) 20:40, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Its a good idea but I'm not sure when I'll have time for some map development. If you'd really like to work on it yourself talk to me on discord or e-mail. -- Daveh (talk) 16:14, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
Having never worked with the maps, depending on the complexity of the task I'd be willing to take it on. Kiz(email - talk) 23:45, 15 October 2019 (GMT)
Thanks a bunch for already implementing the Encounter hotspots! I'll hit you up on Discord about assisting with the other stuff - same username as here Johanson69 (talk) 16:49, 20 October 2019 (GMT)

New namespaces[edit]

Not sure if you followed the recent CP Discussion, but it seems there is a consensus for a new Tes2Mod namespace to document (among others) Daggerfall Unity. And when you're on that, maybe it's also an idea to have a look at the feasibility for a Tes1Mod namespace? --Ilaro (talk) 21:27, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

Done...I think RobinHood may have added them as namespaces recently. -- Daveh (talk) 16:02, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

ESO Skills doesn't work[edit]

I cannot see images here http://esoitem.uesp.net/viewSkills.php AlexL (talk) 11:20, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

I don't see any issue myself and the recent DOS protection we installed shows no activity so that's not it. What browser are you using? Can you reload the page and check the console (F12 on most browsers) to see any error messages (you can copy/paste them here if you do). -- Daveh (talk) 13:12, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
I understood the error. I'm from Russia, and for some reason I don't see images. VPN helped me. I tried all browsers and had many error messages: Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT *name of image*.png. AlexL (talk) 15:57, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
I don't see any issues on our end but thinking about it and it may be related to esoicons.uesp.net using a Cloudflare cache. If you are still having issues with the images loading try editing your hosts file about point esoicons.uesp.net to 107.161.64.236. -- Daveh (talk) 14:34, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your help! Yes, now everything is ok. I also think that the problem was in the Cloudflare cache. I will try your advice if something happens again. AlexL (talk) 15:45, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Dragon Icon for ESO map[edit]

Hey, can you add ON-mapicon-Dragon.png to the list of icons on the ESO map? I think it's better than just using the Misc. icon for dragon areas. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:49, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Done and updated the 7 locations with the new icon type! -- Daveh (talk) 19:01, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I think there might be one or two missing, and also haven't done the Northern Elsweyr locations, but at least we can look relatively official now. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 22:17, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

I am unable to create an account.[edit]

Hey, I am letting you know I'm having trouble with the CAPTCHA. I do the CAPTCHA right and it thinks that I'm wrong. I'm just trying to create the account since I don't want to contribute with the IP. Also remove the IP address by deleting the revision if that is possible, thanks. (IP address removed) 19:00, 10 October 2019 (GMT)

What browser are you using and what Captcha are you getting? I just tested it on Firefox and it seems to be working fine. -- Daveh (talk) 19:51, 10 October 2019 (GMT)
(edit conflict) I'm the one who created that code, but for the life of me, I can't see anything wrong with it. It matches the examples perfectly, as far as I can see. I can confirm that it doesn't work for me either, though, so it's not just you. I'll look into it more later today. In the meantime, if you're eager to get an account, just e-mail me with the user name you'd like, and I'll create the account and e-mail you back with a temporary password.
Dave: in case you want to look into it, the code is at the top of config/Extensions.php and the documentation page is at Extension:QuestyCaptcha. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:53, 10 October 2019 (GMT)
It was working for me. Did you do anything special to have it not work? Would like to be able to get a replicated case of it failing. -- Daveh (talk) 19:58, 10 October 2019 (GMT)
I logged out and then tried to create a new account from the login screen. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:19, 10 October 2019 (GMT)
Same here and it worked (on Firefox). Same with testing on content3 by changing the captcha to trigger on edits (also on Firefox). Looked at the code and it seems fine. Will play around with it some more. -- Daveh (talk) 20:20, 10 October 2019 (GMT)
Sorry, my bad. It was just a user name conflict and I didn't read the error closely enough. I just created a test account with no issues at all. That said, I now have no clue why the IP ran into a problem. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:22, 10 October 2019 (GMT)
No worries, perhaps the same issue the OP ran into. Now tested on Firefox/Edge/Chrome with no issues. -- Daveh (talk) 20:24, 10 October 2019 (GMT)

() What username were you trying to register? -- Daveh (talk) 20:24, 10 October 2019 (GMT)

I was the said IP. I managed to create my account, yeah the CAPTCHA can have bugs in it. I used my Wii U's Internet browser. Yes, I use the console for my online activities. When I tried the first time, it said the the CAPTCHA was incorrect. Yeah the name "White Lightning" wasn't taken. I think it was just a bug. White Lightning (talk) 02:05, 11 October 2019 (GMT)

Donations[edit]

Hello! I saw that there is some data about donations that have been possible to UESP up until 2006. I assume it was stopped then as no income was generated. Though with Skyrim's and ESO's popularity I reckon also UESP got more popular and possibly is a lot more visited nowadays - increasing chances for Donations. Also since paying via internet became easier and more a thing for many over the last decade.

Has there been any thoughts about re-adding Donation possiblities?

I personally do block ads in general and see them as something undesirable. Unless blocked ads still count positively for running the site ;)

Skotharr-do (talk) 22:25, 18 October 2019 (GMT)

As of this moment there is no way to donate and while I've been thinking of other ideas they aren't near any stage of deployment. Don't feel bad for blocking ads...we still get enough to support the site. -- Daveh (talk) 12:34, 21 October 2019 (GMT)

Oblivion and Skyrim map locations[edit]

Hi, I need your advice. I want to get big map image and ALL coordinates of Oblivion and Skyrim map locations. How can I do this? I see here https://srmap.uesp.net/ coordinates: Location: -114542, -6796. But I don't understand what it means. AlexL (talk) 18:52, 20 October 2019 (GMT)

Those are the game coordinates of the location. In order to "fit" Skyrim and Oblivion together you'd have to translate the coordinate system of one game to the other. You'd have to manually line up things and calculate how to do that. Then, you'd have to do the same for the map tile coordinate system. I can send you a database dump of all the Skyrim/Oblivion coordinates if you'd like to try to do it yourself. -- Daveh (talk) 12:41, 21 October 2019 (GMT)
Yes, please. My email: alexx88679@gmail.com. I need Oblivion and Skyrim coordinates. I will be very grateful to you :) AlexL (talk) 17:58, 24 October 2019 (GMT)
Hi, what about coordinates? :) AlexL (talk) 17:16, 7 November 2019 (GMT)
Sorry for taking so long. You can download the dumps at:

Thank you so much! Best wiki, best developer :) AlexL (talk) 17:55, 11 November 2019 (GMT)

Skyrim Dump[edit]

Hey I asked about on the Discord about a dump, Robin suggested I contact you here about a dump of the Skyrim Namespace (I.E. all Skyrim:* etc), I'm going to be offline from November 8th 2019 to sometime, I tried using the Special:Export but that seems to not get everything, mainly because there is no Category:TES5 for all the pages or something similar to add all of it to an export.

I'd really prefer HTML but an XML dump will work as I can use C# to make a mock browser / parser while I'm offline. I Emailed your UESP account with more info / rambling.

(Reply Via Email if you can)

Thanks,

Codingale (talk) 06:23, 1 November 2019 (GMT)

ESO Log Suggestion[edit]

Me and Robin were discussing in Discord just now about Levelled gold rewards and if it would be possible for this data to be collected and parsed as part of the normal log process. This would probably just be the players level at quest completion, the amount of gold received and if they have an ESO Plus membership or not. This is the data we currently have for the calculations. If we could just get the data that would be great, if it could be parsed and the relevant data put into the quest data along with the usual information and then a bot run could place the data rather than just a blank template as it does currently. Kiz(email - talk) 05:05, 9 November 2019 (GMT)

Sure, I'll take a look! -- Daveh (talk) 14:39, 11 November 2019 (GMT)
Added the "questGoldRewards" to the ESO log data (http://esolog.uesp.net/viewlog.php?record=questGoldReward) but it won't start updating until uespLog is updated later this week and people start completing quests. Right now it is just a dump of all quest gold rewards and we'll need to parse/filter it later to get a table similar to what you posted. -- Daveh (talk) 18:43, 11 November 2019 (GMT)
Wow, that was fast! When I was doing the actual bot run afterwards, it looked to me like experience follows a similar scheme. Is that something else we're able to extract? Robin Hood  (talk) 19:08, 11 November 2019 (GMT)
Yup, that's easy enough as its almost the same thing. Added the questXPReward table. Note that both tables adjust the input gold/XP reward if the player has ESO+. -- Daveh (talk) 20:18, 11 November 2019 (GMT)
