Dev Update[edit]

When you have a few minutes, can you update Dev with a recent copy of the wiki, please? It's for the Dragonborn Merge Project, so I can do a trial run of the bot job on a non-critical copy of the wiki before we do it on the live wiki. There's no great rush, as I have other programming and bot jobs to do even before the trial run. Robin Hood  (talk) 22:40, 3 February 2020 (GMT)

Done, finally! Note that I haven't updated images or updated the dev code from live. If either needs to be done let me know. -- Daveh (talk) 21:26, 10 February 2020 (GMT)
That should be fine. While we will be moving images, they don't really need to be fully up-to-date just to test. Robin Hood  (talk) 02:11, 11 February 2020 (GMT)

UESP translation into German?[edit]

Hello Daveh,

I noticed the other UESP translation projects in Arabic(?), Italian, and Portuguese, so I'd like to ask if it's possible to start one for German as well? I would be very interested in translating and editing it regularly and I have plenty of freetime currently + in the near future anyway. I'm sure I shouldn't be the only one who would be supporting it. I look forward to your answer! :) -- Passee1402 (talk) 16:07, 18 April 2020 (GMT)

We're open to just about any translation if there's a group of people with the nessecary language skills and time commitment willing to tackle it. Usually we discuss this as a team on the UESPWiki:Administrator_Noticeboard to see if it has enough support to go forward. -- Daveh (talk) 12:46, 19 April 2020 (GMT)
Okay, I see. So should I post my request on the administrator noticeboard instead? If there isn't enough support yet, I could begin translating it offline until there's enough people. It would be nice, though. :D -- Passee1402 (talk) 16:36, 19 April 2020 (GMT)
Yup, just make a similar post there along with anyone else you know that is interested in the project and see what people think. -- Daveh (talk) 17:05, 19 April 2020 (GMT)

Innacuracies in Lore:Ulfric Stormcloak[edit]

Hello Daveh. I just joined the UESP community in order to help in any way I can regarding the Lore, and I couldn’t help but notice two common innacuracies in Lore:Ulfric Stormcloak. The simplest one (even though it is the one which has the bigger impact in the article) is regarding when exactly the Stormcloak Rebellion started: the article says it started after Torygg’s death when, in fact, it began years prior. It is revealed by Hadvar and Vulwulf Snow-Shod, Hadvar reveals that Ulfric founded the Stormcloaks years before Alduin’s return and that he killed Torygg only a few months prior, and Vulwulf reveals that his daughter “ joined the Stormcloaks many years ago, when the first of the skirmishes broke out across Skyrim” as he says it (Vignar Gray-Mane also says that the Gray-Manes and the Battle-Borns have been feuding for years, and since their feud is directly linked to the civil war... you get the idea). The second one is the claim that the *empire* arrested Ulfric in Markarth, which is less of an innacuracy and more of an oversimplification since the only one who had the authority to arrest Ulfric and his militia was Jarl Hrolfdir (who supported the Empire, but wasn’t exactly THE Empire). Think about it: a loading screen reveals the jarls are largely autonomous from the High King and another (along with the game itself) shows that the degree of autonomy is so great that each hold tracks it’s bounties separately, and also the fact that Cedran reveals the Dominion sent agents to Markarth to demand Ulfric’s arrest, which further strengthens my claim here.

What do you think? — Unsigned comment by DovahsaurusPaleoKnight (talkcontribs) at 02:37 on 20 April 2020‎ (UTC)

Sounds like you know way more about it than I do! I would suggest making a similar entry on the talk page of that article and perhaps talk to some people on the Lore/Wiki channel of Discord to get some discussion going with the more knowledgable members of the UESP community to decide what edits to make on the page. We're typically very careful on lore pages not to speculate too much and just give the facts as they are. -- Daveh (talk) 13:58, 20 April 2020 (GMT)
Thanks for the suggestions. Now I haven’t found the talk page of that article so can you put the link here? I would appreciate it. — Unsigned comment by DovahsaurusPaleoKnight (talkcontribs) at 16:44 on 20 April 2020‎ (UTC)
Sure thing! Lore_talk:Ulfric_Stormcloak -- Daveh (talk) 17:08, 20 April 2020 (GMT)
Legoless has enabled editing in the Lore page, but how do I add references? I am really afraid of trying to do it and end up making a mess. — Unsigned comment by DovahsaurusPaleoKnight (talkcontribs) at 17:40 on 29 April 2020‎ (UTC)
Hey DovahsaurusPaleoKnight, I'm glad you'd like to contribute to the wiki. However, these kind of questions might be better directed to other members by commenting on a talk page of the article you'd like to edit. That way many other dedicated editors can contribute to answer your question. Alternatively, you might want to ask these questions to one of our Mentors. References in particular can be quite difficult for first time users. A simple reference can be added by typing {{Ref|description}} anywhere on a page. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, even veteran editors make them. We have specific users called patrollers that are here to fix small mistakes by other (old and new) users and they don't mind to help out. The Help pages might also be of interest for you. At last, you can add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your of a post when talking to a user to automatically add your name and time t your post so we can still follow discussions many years from now. Good luck and have fun editing! --Ilaro (talk) 21:38, 29 April 2020 (GMT)
Thank you so much for the tips. I will do my best.-DovahsaurusPaleoKnight (talk) 00:14, 30 April 2020 (GMT)
I did it. At long last, I did it! Thank you all so much for the help you gave me!DovahsaurusPaleoKnight (talk) 01:43, 30 April 2020 (GMT)

Moved your Shadowkey file format pages[edit]

Hi Dave, this is just a heads up that I've moved your Shadowkey file format pages (1, 2) to their own dedicated page in TesOtherMod space. (Link) Thal-J (talk) 17:15, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks! -- Daveh (talk) 17:25, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

Creating an account[edit]

I tried to create an account but i couldn't. on the second try it said i had already created one account on this day (13/10/2020). I tried t log in with the username i was going to use (Boostercc) but it said there is no account of that name. can you please sort it out. thanks.

I don't see any account by that name. If you can give me your e-mail address (or e-mail it to me at dave@uesp.net) I can look into it further. -- Daveh (talk) 14:07, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Dave: we've been having a few issues with account creation lately, but I'm not sure what the issue is, exactly. It's still only a small number of users, but there's definitely been a sharp uptick. I've been fielding about one a week through Discord and had been thinking I should mention it. For the most part, an admin can just create the account and e-mail a random password and everything's fine after that, although there's also the perennial issues with Windows Live (and other providers on rare occasions) where people aren't getting e-mails, either. In a worst-case scenario (only one so far), I've had to not only create the account for the person, but then also manually set their password and verify their e-mail through my own personal account, forcing the wiki to accept it all via the resetUserEmail script (with or without --no-reset-password, as appropriate).
