Harald Burdsson is a Nord citizen who runs a museum dedicated to the Champion of Cyrodiil and claims descent from Burd, a Bruma guard captain from the 3rd Era. He will offer you a tour in return for an ever-increasing amount of gold and once it's over will happily sell you his unique Champion's Vigor potions.
After waking up at 6am, Harald will eat breakfast and spend a couple of hours indoors. At 12pm he heads out to the market, where he will spend the next two hours pestering Bruma's citizens to come visit his museum. At 2pm, he heads back home and opens up the museum, offering tours until 8pm, when visits The Restful Watchman for some food and drink, returning home at midnight and heading straight to bed. The only change to this schedule is on Sundas, when he shutters the museum early at 6pm and heads to the Cathedral of St. Martin for two hours of prayer.
Harald wears Cyrodiilic merchant clothes and matching boots, and is armed with a wooden club. He also carries a copy of his museum pamphlet, the key to his house, a draught of haggling and a random selection of gold, lockpicks, gems, jewelry, food and drink.

Dialogue[edit]
Harald's love for the Champion shines through when first speaking to him:
- "Excuse me, but have you ever heard of the Champion of Cyrodiil?"
- I'm not interested.
- "Sorry to bother you, but the Champion - never underestimate the Champion! Always remember that you owe your very life to the Champion."
- No, never.
- "The Champion of Cyrodiil is the reason Tamriel is still intact! And yet you've never heard...? The Champion fought alongside Martin during the Oblivion Crisis back in the Third Era. They closed the Oblivion gates and fought alongside the Blades during the Battle of Bruma, where they managed to shut down the Great Gate. The Champion also killed Mankar Camoran and with Martin's help saved the Imperial City from Daedric invasion."
- Of course. The Champion aided Martin in saving the world from Mehrunes Dagon.
- "Yes, indeed! And my great, great, great, great-- well, anyway, my very, very distant grandfather- he fought alongside the Champion! He was at the Battle of Bruma! He was the captain of the guard, no less!"
- I don't have time for this.
- "I understand, you're probably very busy."
Either way, he will continue:
- "The Champion is my inspiration, second only to Captain Burd, you know, the distant relative. I have a very large collection of Champion of Cyrodiil artifacts. My pride and joy. And I always want to expand it. Perhaps one day you'll aid me in that pursuit, eh? But that day isn't today. I need to track down another artifact first. Anyway, thank you for your time! Sorry for approaching you so abruptly. Sometimes my passion for the Champion can carry me away. Heh, sorry again. Oh, I almost forgot! If you're interested, come to my house. I have a fantastic Champion of Cyrodiil museum tour available. Innumerable Champion of Cyrodiil artifacts! Come, check it out when you can!"
If instead you clearly demonstrate you're not interested, he will be enraged and end the conversation without inviting you:
- *yawn*
- "How rude! You mean to say you don't find the Champion of Cyrodiil interesting? You won't even entertain conversation about it? Then I have no further time for you."
After this, when inside his house you can ask him a few questions:
- Why are you named Burdsson?
- "Well, my great, great, great, great--my ancestor, Burd, fought alongside the Champion of Cyrodiil during the Battle of Bruma. The first Burdsson was born after Burd's death. Given his fame and status as Captain of the Guard, he felt he was worthy of making a name! It's been that way for generations."
- Why open this museum?
- "Well, the Champion of Cyrodiil saved the entire world! Why not revere them?"
Museum Dialogue[edit]
If you speak to him at home you can ask to be taken on the full tour of the museum:
- I'm here to see the museum.
- "Welcome to the Hall of the Champion, the only museum of the Champion of Cyrodiil in the Imperial Province. While some call it a place of learning, I imagine it as an altar to the Champion's greatness. I offer exclusive tours of the museum, with thrilling explanations of the significance of each artifact. Only twenty septims for a, uhh, fantastical retelling of the Champion's exploits!"
- I'll pass.
- "What a shame, the tour is worth every septim!"
- I'd like the exclusive tour. (20 gold)
- "Not enough coin, I'm afraid. Sorry, but you can't see artifacts this valuable for nothing! Come back later." (don't have enough gold)
- "Thank you for your contribution! Now please, follow me."
He will first bring you to the manacles that held the Champion captive in the Imperial City Prison where he met Emperor Uriel Septim VII
- "Oh, goodie! You're in for a treat! Our tour begins with the prison! These are the manacles which the Champion wore. A priceless artifact, I assure you, which I acquired at a princely sum! The Champion was with the Emperor when he was slain by the cowardly assassins of the Mythic Dawn. Such a shame. But without this grave incident, the Champion would never have risen to prominence!"
Next is a Kvatch cuirass:
- "This is a Cuirass of Kvatch! It's not the actual cuirass the Champion was rewarded for services to the city... But it was touched by the Champion when they brushed by a guardsman on the way in! Kvatch was the first city saved by the Champion during the Oblivion Crisis. They bravely entered the land of Daedra and broke the siege of the city!"
The third item is a handkerchief used by none other than the Champion, which you can even touch if you like:
- "Hmmm... an ordinary piece of fabric. How could this be interesting? Must be a placeholder... Except it's not! The Champion used this handkerchief to blow their nose while ascending to Cloud Ruler Temple. It was reclaimed by an old merchant during a trip to the ruins north of the city. Can you believe it? The essence of the champion! Preserved for us to see and touch! Touching the handkerchief is fifty septims. Would you like to touch the handkerchief?"
- Why would I want to touch that thing?
- "Because it's an artifact of the Champion of Cyrodiil! Why else?"
- No.
- "Hmph. Fine. Be that way. Your loss. Let's move to the next display."
- Yes. (50 gold)
- "Sorry, touching the handkerchief is a privilege. Maybe when you have enough gold, you can feel its magnificence." (don't have enough gold)
- "There you go. Just touch it. Feel your hands caress it. So... what do you think?"
- It's sticky.
- "Yes. From the records I've studied on the subject, the Champion of Cyrodiil had a terrible case of Rockjoint at the time. Caused them to blow their nose constantly. Anyway, let's move to the next display."
If you instead simply walk away, he will be disappointed:
- "Hmmph. Fine. Be that way."
One of the finest pieces of the collection is up next: the sword of Harald's ancestor, Captain Burd, which you will again be offered to touch:
- "Ah! Now this is a treat. The sword of Burd, my family's progenitor. Burd was Captain of the Bruma Guard and fought alongside the Champion during the battle of Bruma. Ever since, my family has taken the name Burdsson, to remember the great warrior from whom we stem! Touching the sword is fifty septims. Would you like to touch the sword?"
- Why would I want to touch a sword, of all things?
- "Because it belonged to my great, great... ahem, grandfather, Captain Burd, of course!"
- No.
- "Fine. Your loss. Let's move on to the next display, eh?"
- Yes. (50 gold)
- "Ah, you don't have enough coin. Sorry, but you can't just grasp the sword without paying! It's a delicate item of immense value." (don't have enough gold)
- "That's right. Feel your hand stroke the metal. Now... what did you think of that?"
- It was the best sword I've ever stroked, and I've stroked a lot of swords. (Lie)
- "Thank you! I feel much the same way. Unless that was sarcasm? I never quite grasped that. Unlike the sword. I do a lot of sword-grasping when I'm bored, heh. Anyway, let's move to the next display."
- It's just like any sword I've ever stroked before.
- "I... well, to each their own. Not how I'd have described it, though. Anyway, let's move to the next display."
The final piece is a relic of the Champion's finger joint:
- "Finally, here we have my most prized possession! The finger of the Champion! Many say the Champion disappeared after the crisis, but I know better. My theory is that the Champion died following a great battle with a were-minotaur, a vampire, and a unicorn. Before the Champion's body could be lost to the earth, it was carried away by woodland creatures at the behest of Kynareth. Unfortunately, a band of Khajiit stole the body when it was being carried by a troop of squirrels. Before the body could be lost, an Argonian mercenary - well, I won't bore you with the whole story. Just a theory of mine. However, if my theory is correct, then I have recovered one of the last parts of the body, the fingerbone, and can present it to you, today."
With this, he will end the tour with a flourish:
- "The other display cases enclose other items that were owned by the champion: swords, shields, broaches, silverware. All very exciting. I also sell Champion's Vigor, a potion distilled from the herbs the Champion was said to consume each morning. And you can have a portrait painted of you with the Champion's finger, but you need to give a week's notice. I hope you enjoyed your tour! Come back if you have any questions about the Champion!"
At this point you can pointedly ask him whether the whole museum is a scam, which can lead to him giving you a refund:
- Is all of this stuff actually real? (Persuade)
- "Are you questioning the honor of a Burdsson?! How dare you?!" (fail Persuasion)
- "Well... yes! I mean no... It's a mix. The Burd stuff's real - well, not the sword. But the rest. And I think the finger's real. The handkerchief isn't. Been blowing my nose on it whenever I come down with the collywobbles, honestly."
- "And you touched it, didn't you? Yeah, err, sorry about that. Some of the Champion's miscellanea has to be real... There's just so much. How could it not be? I'll give you a refund."
- "Some of the Champion's miscellanea has to be real... there's just so much. How could it not be? I'll give you a refund."
Either way he will finish with:
- "But I mean well. Honest. It's just that, well, my obsession with the Champion made me want a museum, and I wanted filled displays. You don't tend to get many visitors if you have empty display cases lying around, you know? I don't mean to deceive. Most of the stuff's real! I promise you that."

Conversations[edit]
When in the market square, Harald can be overheard badgering Ananril and Gort to come visit the museum:
Ananril: "What can I get you? I have the finest potions-" Harald: "Ah, that is not why I am here, though thank you for the offer." Ananril: "Don't tell me you're here to-" Harald: "I am here to discuss with you the Champion of Cyrodiil, for it is the Champion who saved Cyrodiil and all Tamriel from the Oblivion Crisis!" Ananril: "I realize you don't mean any harm, but you're interrupting my business and scaring away my customers. Please, buy something or leave." Harald: "My apologies, friend! I will return another time!" |
Harald: "May I discuss with you the glorious Champion of Cyrodiil?" Gort: "What?" Harald: "The Champion of Cyrodiil! The savior of all Tamriel!" Gort: "Get away from me, you crazy snowback bastard." Harald: "The Champion is the savior of Tamriel! You may turn your back on me but you cannot turn your back on the Champion! Don't blind yourself to the truth!" Bruma Guard: "Burdsson, calm yourself. You're causing a fuss." Harald: "I, but... the Champion..." Bruma Guard: "Yes, yes, we know. "The Champion of Cyrodiil, the savior of all Tamriel". Harald, you do this damn near every day. Everyone in Bruma who isn't deaf knows. Now, head back to your house and calm down." Harald: "I... I understand." |
