Lore:Clan Axe-Bearer
Clan Axe-Bearer was an ancient Nord family known for its role in safeguarding the hilt of Mehrunes' Razor.[1]
History[edit]
Second Era[edit]
Around 2E 582, some Nords bearing the Axe-Bearer name were active. Klaandor Axe-Bearer, a Nord from Rivenspire, contracted vampirism but chose death over embracing the curse.[2][3] Another Nord figure from that period was Hrasvard Axe-Bearer, a Nord who served in the Ebonheart Pact during the Three Banners War. He served at Fort Amol, ensuring the fort was well guarded during the visit of Skald King Jorunn.[4]
Fourth Era[edit]
One of the most prominent members of the clan was Lenne, the leader of the Keepers of the Razor. The earliest known records of the group date back to around 4E 50, roughly fifty years after Frathen Drothan's failed expedition to Varsa Baalim,[1] and about 150 years prior to 4E 201.[5] He and his group were edicated to eradication of the Mythic Dawn. After discovering the legendary Mehrunes' Razor, the militia renamed themselves and assumed the task of safeguarding the Daedric artifact. The Razor was divided into three parts, each entrusted to one of the highest-ranking members of the group's inner circle: Lenne and his companions—a Reachfolk woman named Sorcha and Othmash gro-Gularz, an Orc. He was the one to bear the hilt of Mehrunes' Razor, while the families of his companions retained the blade shards and pommel.[1]
Lenne's lineage was relatively straightforward to trace, with each generation clearly passing down through the male descendants. His son, Neddrir, was the first in the line after him, and it was Neddrir who fathered Lygrleid. Lygrleid, in turn, had a son named Malte, and from there, the lineage continued with Malte's descendants. The line progressed through his sons: Koli, followed by Hroi, and then to Halnir. This direct line of descent, passed from father to son, was thoroughly documented and easily traced through the generations, eventually leading to Jorgen,[1] who lived in 4E 201.[6]
By then, eight generations had passed,[1] and the clan continued to safeguard the hilt.[5][7] He was the lumberjack who ran the mill in Morthal. When a mob of townsfolk set out to confront the vampire Movarth Piquine, he joined them, but ultimately decided against the risk and turned back to the safety of the town.[6]
In his quest to obtain the Razor, Silus Vesuius traced the family lineage and recorded their genealogy in the text The Keepers of the Razor.[1] He knew that the last living descendant of the line, Jorgen, resided in Morthal, and hired an adventurer to pay him a visit.[5] The adventurer found Jorgen, who had parted ways with the Razor, though the exact circumstances remain unclear—whether through bribery, persuasion, violence, or threats. The descendant of Lenne believed the Razor was no longer necessary, feeling that his family had wasted eight generations guarding it from a dead cult.[6][7]
