The Coral Heart

The Coral Heart is an ancient and powerful artifact associated with the Land Coral along the Inner Sea. The heart's connection to the coral is believed to be symbiotic in nature, and it grants the coral the ability to think and reason.[1] The heart appears as a glowing mass with a barely visible piece of metal buried between layers of coral.[2]

History[edit]

During the Merethic Era, the heart was used to imprison Sadal, one of the Brothers of Strife. Over time, it became known as the heart of the coral.[1]

During the Three Banners War, the Daggerfall Covenant invaded Stonefalls and sought to capture to Coral Heart and use it to reawaken Sadal. Led by Alexandra Conele, the Covenant landed on the shores of Vivec's Antlers and clashed with Ebonheart Pact forces.[3] In response, the heart summoned the local dreugh to defend itself, halting the Covenant's invasion.[1]

Alexandra Conele however managed to reach the Coral Heart's main chamber in Vivec's Antlers and stole it, resulting in the coral's slow death. A detachment of Ebonheart Pact soldiers fought and killed Conele and recovered the heart, but it was too late. In order to keep the coral alive, an Argonian sorcerer named Sings-With-Reed sacrificed herself and merged her body and soul with the coral. As a result, the coral was saved, and the heart itself was no longer required to sustain it.[4]

The Ebonheart Pact took the heart and traveled to Fort Virak with Tanval Indoril, Grandmaster of House Indoril. The Pact clashed with the Covenant forces at led by General Serien at Fort Virak. Serien was defeated in the battle, but Tanval's son Garyn was killed. Tanval, distraught by his son's death, stole the Coral Heart from the Pact has fled towards the Tormented Spire, promising to summon Sadal himself and exact revenge for his son's death.[5]

Using the Coral Heart, Tanval successfully summoned Sadal, but was hurt during the ritual. Unable to control Sadal, even with the Coral Heart in his possession, Tanval regretted his outburst and agreed to help rebind Sadal. In the final battle with Sadal, Tanval channelled the power of the Coral Heart and rushed Sadal in order to break his powerful flame shield. Tanval died in a burst of magic and fire, but his sacrifice allowed the Pact forces to rebind Sadal. The fate of the Coral Heart remains unknown.[6]
