Gargrell Sorick was an alchemist of mixed Reachfolk and Breton heritage. Gargrell was not only an accomplished herbalist but also a former assassin, skilled swordsman, and the author of Notes on Alchemical and Enchanting Ingredients.[1]
History[edit]
Gargrell was born as the result of a non-consensual union between an unknown dishonorable soldier of the Lion Guard soldier and a Reachwoman who descended from Mandaillonan the Marked, a pioneer herbalist. Gargrell's youth was spent as an assassin. However, he found a new life as an apprentice at the Wayrest Apothecary under Master Defessus Lector,[1] an accomplished alchemist,[2][3][4] who saved him from being sacrificed to Hircine. Gargrell's role at the apothecary improved after the death of the first apprentice, Evangeline Beanique, and he was tasked with cataloging alchemy and enchanting ingredients. He commenced the writing of the journal, Agents and Reagents: The Bounty of Mundus on the 2nd of Sun's Height of 2E 578.[1]
The book mainly consisted of ingredient classifications, descriptions, and their alchemical and enchanting uses, accompanied by illustrations. However, his later entries detail a disturbing transformation in his health. A scratch from a Redguard necromancer of the Worm Cult posing as a merchant named Uwafa[1][5][6] caused an inexplicable illness, manifesting with pustules, cracking, and discoloration of his face. Gargrell's condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to hallucinations and a decline in sanity. Bardus, another assistant of Defessus Lector, resorted to extreme measures, confining Gargrell in a hidden chamber, and ultimately ending his life 24 days after he contracted the disease.[1]
