Rallus Odiil is an Imperial warrior and the elder son of Valus Odiil. They were recently chased off of their farm near Chorrol by goblins, and you will need to help him and his brother Antus fight them off. Rallus is slightly more capable a fighter than his brother, but not by much. If you manage to keep them both alive, their father will reward you with the leveled blade Chillrend.
He does not exist in the game until you are on the relevant quest, at which point he appears before Weynon Priory. He remains standing in place here at all times until you tell him that you are taking his father's place in the upcoming battle against the goblins. At this point, he leads you to Odiil farm. He fights against the goblins that soon appear and, if he survives, returns to his father after the battle. He remains where he found Valus until the quest is completed. Afterwards, he immediately moves into the farm and lives a simple life there. Rallus begins his day by waking up at 6am. He enjoys a two-hour meal at 10am. At all other times his day will be divided between pacing around the interior of the farmhouse and raking the fields outside.
He wears a coarse linen shirt, huntsman leather pants and a pair of stitched leather shoes. He is armed with an iron longsword and carries the key to Odiil Farm and a small amount of gold.

Quest-Related Events[edit]
After you have talked with their father and agreed to help, you will find the two Odiil brothers having an argument outside Weynon Priory:
- Rallus: "Antus, calm down. We'll be leaving soon enough."
- Antus: "I just can't wait. This is going to be the greatest fight ever!"
- Rallus: "This is no joke, Antus, and it's nothing to be excited about."
- Antus: "If you don't want to be doing this, then why are you even here? Father and I can handle this."
- Rallus: "I'm here because even though I'm afraid, I know that we have to do this. Father would feel the same way."
- Antus: "Father's not scared - don't you dare say that! You'll see when he gets here. I'll ask him, and then you'll see!"
- Antus: "Why isn't he here yet? What's taking him so long? He knew we were coming back for him..."
- Rallus: "Patience, Antus. He'll be here as soon as he can. Don't be so anxious to go rushing into battle."
- Antus: "Why not? We can't just let those creatures live, and no one else is going to do anything about it, so we should get going!"
When you talk to Rallus, it becomes even clearer that he is the more level-headed of the pair:
- "I'm afraid I have no time for small talk, friend. I'm waiting for my father, Valus Odiil. Have you seen him in town, by any chance?"
- Creatures
- "They began raiding our farm a few days ago. There are more now, and I have no idea where they're coming from. It's our duty to protect our own, even if others will do nothing. Father taught us that much, and we won't back down from a fight. The guards claim there's no evidence of them, so they won't lift a finger. That's why we have to be the ones to deal with them."
- Valus Odiil
- "He is not coming with us? I think I understand, and it is better that he remain safe. Though I wonder why he has asked you to take his place. You would join us, though you have no personal stake in this fight? An honorable deed... I gladly accept your help, then. There's no point in waiting here any longer. Follow me!"
He immediately ends the conversation at this point. If you end your talk before discussing his father, Rallus would have politely said: "Goodbye."
While you are walking toward the farm, you can continue to chat with Rallus:
- "It's just this way."
- Creatures
- "I think I'm ready for this, but I worry about Antus. He's never seen a fight like this before."
He bids farewell solemnly: "The farm is near. Stay close."
Once you arrive at the farm, he checks to see that you and his brother are ready for battle:
- [Rallus draws his weapon]
- Antus: "Filthy vermin!"
- Rallus: "Stay focused! Watch your backs, and be careful. Antus, are you ready?"
- [Antus draws his weapon]
- Antus: "Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go!"
- Rallus: "Defend yourselves! Here they come!"
Rallus then joins you and his brother in fending off the attacking goblins, losing his essential status. If you manage to talk to him at the start of the battle, he only says, "This is no time to talk! Keep your guard up, and watch your back! We've got to kill all of them!" before immediately ending the conversation.
After the fight, his dialogue will vary depending on whether or not Antus survived. If Antus is still alive, he'll cheerfully say, "Let's go see my father, and let him know of our victory!" before immediately ending the conversation.
However, if Antus died during the battle he won't be nearly as happy:
- "I think... I think we got them all. We're safe, for now. We'd best return to town while we can."
- Creatures
- "Ha! I knew they couldn't stand up to us!"
- Valus Odiil
- "We'll have to break the news to him that Antus didn't make it. He fought bravely, and father will respect that."
He ends the conversation with a simple: "Let's go home."
If Rallus dies during the fight with the goblins, Valus will be overcome with grief. Antus will also be very upset, taking out his frustration on you: "Poor Rallus. Why didn't you help him? You could've saved him! You'll have to tell father what you've done."
Notes[edit]
- Rallus is unable to greet you when you approach him throughout the entire quest due to the specific nature of his packages and actions during the quest. He has many unused greetings as a result:
-
- "What can I do for you, stranger?" (before the quest is active)
- "Welcome back." (after non-existent stage 20)
- "Please, do what you can to protect Antus. He's just a kid." (during the walk to the farm)
- "Stand your ground!" (during the fight)
- "That's the last of them!" (after the fight)
- For similar reasons, he has some farewells that are not used:
-
- "Come back as quickly as you can." (after non-existent stage 20)
- "This battle is not over!" (during the fight)
- Rallus has a greeting that cannot be heard as other lines of dialogue take precedence. It was likely meant to be said before starting the quest, but Rallus does not exist in the game at this point. He would have said: "I have no time to talk, friend. As soon as my father arrives, we head back to the farm. These creatures must be dealt with."
- Rallus has two lines about Valus Odiil that are not heard during normal gameplay. The first line is only available before he is activated: "If my father is not at home, he should be in the Grey Mare. He is supposed to come with us." The other can only be heard after the battle if Antus survives, but you are unable to choose dialogue topics if this happens: "I have the highest respect for my father... I just wish he could have seen us cross blades with the enemy."
