Bonafryd is a Nord member of the Order of the Eye, a part of the Mages Guild dedicated to locating extraplanar threats to Tamriel. After her friend Skaldir is killed by his shadow, she gives you the names and locations of other scryers to warn.
After rescuing all the scryers and collecting the parts for Lilatha, she appears in Vulkhel Guard just before you set off to Dranil Kir. Bonafryd reveals she's been tracking you through an enchanted coin and offers to come with you, to which can you accept or deny.

Quest-Related Events[edit]
After Skaldir is killed by his shadow, Bonafryd rushes in yelling:
- Bonafryd: "Skaldir! No!"
- Bonafryd: "Damn it! Who's doing this? I'll send them straight to Sovngarde!"
You can speak to her then.
- "I wasn't fast enough... Damn it all!
- Did you see what happened here? Was it his shadow?"
- Yes. His shadow came to life and stabbed him.
- "Just as I feared. I knew looking for this artifact would get us killed. I warned them, warned all of them, but they wouldn't listen! They never listen.
I've got to find the others. There's still time to save them. Has to be..." - What others? What were you looking into?
- "Something very dangerous, but that can wait. My friends are in danger and don't even see it! Some scryers, huh?
- Adeber's in Shornhelm and Wenridil is in Marbruk. Neelo's in Stormhold maybe? Yes. He must be there. I just hope we're not too late."
- I'll warn your friends.
After you agree to help you can ask questions:
- "Thanks for the help. Got any questions? Let's just make it quick, all right? My friends can't very well outrun their own shadows."
- Who are you, exactly? / And who are you, exactly?
- "Bonafryd, of Clan Owlcloak.
Skaldir and I came up together in Riften, under Magus Oriela. He was always the sharper blade. Magic came easily for him. Me? Not so much. Got too much frost in my blood. Still, I can hold my own Just takes me a while." - What brought you here?
- "Unfortunately, Skaldir's not the only mage who's been killed by his own shadow - he's just the most recent. Other memebers of our order have been turning up dead all over Tamriel.

- "Bonafryd, of Clan Owlcloak.
- You mentioned an artifact. What did you and Skaldir discover that was so terrible?
- "Shor's bones, you really want to know, eh? Fine.
My associates and I are all junior scryers in the Order of the Eye. We scour the tombs and ruins of Tamriel, looking for extraplanar threats. Rifts in the veil, Daedric artifacts, that sort of thing." - What exactly did you find?
- "We've had visions of a Daedric artifact. At least we think it's a Daedric artifact. It's hazy, you know? Obscured by something … like frosted glass.
Sorry. Skaldir was always the wordsmith." - And you're sure that Skaldir's death is related to this artifact?
- "A mage can't afford to be sure of anything. But I'd bet my family's meadery on it.
Daedric artifacts grant untold power to those that carry them, but always at a cost. The Mages Guild can't even let one of those things fall into the wrong hands."

- Who are the other people you mentioned?
- "Other junior scryers in the Order of the Eye.
It was just Skaldir and me at first, but others caught on eventually. We started writing each other once we realized we'd all stumbled upon the same artifact. Thought we could find it all on our own …." - Why can't you warn the others yourself?
- "You think I haven't tried? I sent projections but … this doesn't come easily for me. Magic, I mean.
Anyway, I have to warn High King Jorunn first. I heard that his rune-galdr's been looking into the artifact as well. Please, just find my friends."

At Vulkhel Guard, Bonafryd will intercept you as you try to board Lilatha's boat:
- Bonafryd: "Wait! Don't leave yet!"
- "Are you really going to climb aboard this death trap? Just hold a moment and think it through."
- Bonafryd? How did you find me?
- "Would you believe pluck and intuition? Yeah, didn't think so.
I may look the part, but I'm no bloodhound. Truth is, I slipped a spooring coin into your pocket before you left Mournhold." - A spooring what? Explain yourself.
- "A spooring coin. It's an enchanted drake—looks mundane, but it bears a charm that we can track.
You don't approve? Look, we can argue about that later. For now, I can't let you get on this boat alone. It's too dangerous. Let me go with you!" - You're right. Let's finish this investigation together.
- "Smart. Two heads are better than one—especially when one of those heads is as hard as mine.
Let's hop to it, eh? It's about time we got some answers." - Let's go.
- "We should get going. Kyne knows how long I've got before my shadow comes calling for blood."
- "Smart. Two heads are better than one—especially when one of those heads is as hard as mine.
- I don't think so. The person I'm meeting wants me to come alone.
- "Yeah. And you know what kind of people say things like "come alone"? Murderers. Shor's bones, you're smarter than this.
Just let me come along. I can help." - I'll be fine. I'm going alone
- "Bah! You're just as stubborn as Skaldir was. And we know how that turned out, don't we?
Just take care of yourself, all right? And don't believe everything you hear. It's a Daedric artifact we're after. People would do anything for it. Anything."

If you talk to Bonafryd after deciding against taking her, but before using the boat:
- "You're madder than a cave bear in heat for doing this alone, but I won't stop you. Just watch your back, eh?"
If you invited Bonafryd to come along to Dranil Kir, she'll be a little sea-sick:
- "I'm sorry. I know I came to help, but I'm … I'm not very good on boats.
I will be fine, really. You go on ahead. Just give me a moment to catch my breath, and I'll catch up with you."
If you decide against it, you arrive at Dranil Kir alone and in the rain.

Bonafryd will appear on Dranil Kir, regardless of if you choose to bring her along or not. It is revealed she's working for Nocturnal, donning her true cultist identity in the Obscuros Scrying Chamber and trying to kill you and Lilatha once you have defeated Lilatha's Shadow:
- Bonafryd: "I knew you were stubborn, but that won't save you from me! You'll die just like the rest!"
- Bonafryd: "You underestimated me, just like the rest! Now, this Psijic bitch is mine!"
If you did not let her tag along, she says the following line instead of the one above:
- Bonafryd: "You were wise not to trust me, but that won't save you, or this Psijic bitch!"
You will be forced to kill her to progress.
At the start of combat:
- Bonafryd: "Poor, witless Bonafryd! That's what they called me! Well, who's laughing now, huh?"
Once she is close to death:
- Bonafryd: "No! I will not fail my mistress!"'
