Freiwen's memory of Maxten Favrete

Maxten Favrete is a powerful High Elf ice necromancer who can be found in Verglas Hollow. There, she performs experiments with the bodies and people her assistant Zan'ikh brings her deep within the icy caverns.

But her story began a few years before, when she arrived in Morthal, searching for avenues of power. There, she met the Jarl Reddharn's daughter, Freiwen, and began a romantic relationship with her.

However, her ritual at the Kjenstag Ruins went disastrously wrong and caused great suffering for the town and Freiwen. She fled to Verglas Hollow and attempted to revert Freiwen's curse, but eventually Maxten's need to advance her necromantic powers above all else led Freiwen to leave her.

Recently, members of the nearby grounded ship, The Silver Cormorant, have fallen into her clutches.

Of Ice and Death

When you enter the large hall in the Hollow just after finding Mamdahan, a disembodied voice will call out:

Maxten Favrete: "You are not Zan'ikh … should I assume that you are here to kill me?"

First Mate Drigsen: "That voice … it sends a chill through me. That must be Favrete."

You can then enter the Verglas Hollow Depths which is an icy tunnel filled with icles and numerous ice sculpture-like bodies, the voice will muse out loud:

Maxten Favrete: "Perhaps I deserve death. I destroy as easily as I create. I taint that which I love."

After you find Qasnareen Maxten will continue with her speech:

Maxten Favrete: "But fret not, your people serve a higher purpose now. I have given them life anew."

When you enter the tower, Maxten Favrete will talk to you again:

Maxten Favrete: "I will not let my shame snuff out the power I have wrought. I must finish my work."

First Mate Drigsen: "We must be getting close."

When you reach Maxten's laboratory, she will be in the middle of turning Captain Mavvok into one of her thralls.

As you enter, Mavokk will shout for help:

Captain Mavvok: "Help me! Destroy the frozen dais, it's where she draws her power!"

Maxten Favrete: "Behold the frost focus, the font of my creations!"

Some of the frozen skeleton thralls will break out of their ice and begin to attack you. As you fight she will begin ranting to no one in particular:

Maxten Favrete: "Why do you refuse my gifts? Why does no one understand the beauty of what I offer?"

Maxten Favrete: "I give life where there was none! I breathe fire into frozen hearts!"

As she reaches death, Maxten will ask forgiveness from her beloved:

Maxten Favrete: "Freiwen, forgive me!"

Long Journey Home

You will see illusions of her and Freiwen during Long Journey Home:

Freiwen: "Are you sure about this, my love? What if something goes wrong?"

Maxten Favrete: "Absolutely. I've researched this ritual for years. I just need your help."

Skills and Abilities

Ice Arrow

A basic ranged attack that does minor frost damage.

Winter's Reach

The enemy unleashes an icy whirlwind in the direction it is facing. This whirlwind does moderate frost damage and roots all players that it hits. The root effect passes through block, but it can be escaped by roll dodging.

Ice Burst

Maxten recois into herself and channels a spell, indicated by a large growing red circle, causing an icy shockwave to go off around her, dealing frost damage and staggering targets.

Ice Shard

Maxten slams her staff into the ground, causing an icicle to pop out of the ground at her targets' locations, indicated by a growing red circle. They then explode, dealing frost damage and knocking targets away.

Notes

• She has a Research Journal.
• Though Maxten Favrete uses an Altmer model, her name is Breton.
• Maxten Favrete and Freiwen were in a relationship, while other townsfolk were suspicious due to her not talking with anyone but Freiwen.
