Torch

A Torch is a miscellaneous item that can be held in one hand to light up the surrounding area. The duration of a torch is 240 seconds, and the radius of its light is 512. Other items, such as lanterns and candlesticks, cannot be used as sources of light.

Torches, despite having a value, cannot be bought from or sold to any merchants, even with the Merchant perk. Holding a torch gives Fortify Warmth 50 pts when Survival Mode is active.

It is      in color.

Torch

The duration, radius, and brightness of this torch is the same as the above. It will also still give a warmth bonus for Survival Mode. However, this torch casts shadows and has no carry weight.

With Special Edition, J'datharr will carry one (he carries a bugged and unusable torch in the original version).

With Dragonborn installed one can be found in the cellar of Hrodulf's House. It is      in color. It is also weightless and adds dynamic shadows to objects when held.

Notes[edit]

  • Torches you give to followers will never burn out.
  • Torches cannot be rotated or zoomed in on like other items in your inventory.
  • Torches are the only "Miscellaneous" item you can favorite.
  • You can remove a torch from its sconce to darken an area to avoid detection if enemies are nearby. Be careful not to blow your cover in the process.
    • Only torches with brown handles can be removed; the ones with black handles cannot be taken.
  • If you drop a lit torch into a body of water, its flame won't go out.
  • If you bash an enemy while holding a torch, the enemy will briefly catch fire, and progress towards your Block skill will improve slightly.
  • If you bash oil-based traps while holding a torch, they will be set on fire.
  • If you place torches into the cupboard behind the counter in Riverwood Trader, they won't add to what Lucan has for sale.
  • If you extinguish the fire at Solitude Lighthouse during Lights Out!, place torches into the fire pit and travel to somewhere else, the torches and the lighthouse beacon will be lit by the time you return. However, when viewed from a distance, there will still be no visible light.
  • If you sit or activate a lumber pile, wood chopping block, ore vein, or crafting facility while holding a torch, it will be extinguished, though it won't be removed from your inventory.

Bugs[edit]

  • Some people who carry torches, such as Viarmo, may hold them non-stop after equipping them for the first time. ?
  • Equipping a torch can cause the scenery to briefly flash, especially in dark environments. ?
