Secret of Arcana[edit]

When using Secret of Arcana (a Black Book reward Power that reduces the magicka cost of all spells to zero), it is possible to enter a single casting of Lightning Storm that will never cost any magicka. I'm guessing that an additional mechanic of Lightning Storm is that the amount of magicka that it consumes per second is determined at the time it is first cast. This also occurs with the other damage-per-second spells (Flames et al.). Using this it seems possible to cast Lightning Storm forever, even from a character with very little base magicka. How much XP?[edit]

According to the note under the Bugs section, the Unofficial Skyrim Patch fixes it so that this spell gives you XP. Does anyone know how much it gives you per second? I'm using the patch and I want to know if it's worth it to use this spell to train Destruction.FrozenWolf150 (talk) 03:21, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

I'm a little rusty on the whole process, but if I've done everything right, the Skill XP is 138, so it's no better or worse than most other spells. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:10, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

Killing Ancient Dragons[edit]

While it is just a note and it may be using the term "few" loosely, this spell cannot kill ancient dragons in a "few" seconds. At best, it deals 112.5 damage per second. Ancient dragons have 3071 health. Even with the disintegration effect, this spell will take over 20 seconds to kill an ancient dragon. This is still decently quick, but this is in no way a "few" seconds. — Unsigned comment by 99.245.224.40 (talk) at 17:16 on 19 November 2015

A bug?[edit]

Why is it listed as a bug that this spell does not advance the destruction skill? Considering you need to be at 100 destruction before you can get the quest to be able to buy it, it should not be expected to advance the skill. I suppose maybe for people who are using the legendary feature to reset their destruction skill back to 15? though doing that probably means you no longer have enough magicka to offset the more expensive casting cost.90.205.104.90 23:38, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

You only need to be 100 because of a bug. If that bug did not exist then this would be available at level 90. No problems have been seen with the fire and ice versions so there is no reason to have left this one unable to affect your skills. The legendary feature only made the bug visible to those who did not have access to a fix for the quest bug. Using enchanting you can negate the entire cost of spells, and as you progress back up the skill tree the cost comes down so the size of your magic pool doesn't need to affect this spells use.
