Beldaburo is an Ayleid ruin on the Gold Coast of Cyrodiil, located near the Abecean Sea and Brena River, southwest of Sutch.[1] The lower levels of the ruins are known as Beldaburo Anga, with Anga meaning "iron" or "cold" in Ayleidoon.[2]
History[edit]
Merethic & First Era[edit]
The inhabitants of Beldaburo are believed to have been Daedraphiles during the time of the Ayleid Empire, but no modern-day scholar can determine which Daedric Prince they venerated; as Phrastus of Elinhir put it, "there's just simply no way to tell".[3]
Beldaburo later fell into ruin after the Alessian Slave Rebellion, as the burgeoning Alessian Empire toppled the remaining Ayleid cities of Cyrodiil one by one.[4][5][6]
Second Era[edit]
By 2E 582, the exterior ruins had become worn down, with much of it having collapsed over the years. A scholar named Solus Vertilus camped out near the ruins with the plan to explore them, and observed a group of Minotaurs congregating outside the ruins.[7][8] The Minotaurs did not appear to have delved further into the ruins,[7] as the entrance was barred at the time.[8] Vertilus also witnessed a strange light emanating from the ruins, later discovering it to be the Lonely Sentinel, an Ayleid spirit who would kneel with his sword on the walkway of the ruins before traveling back inside.[7][8] Vertilus planned to discern a means of opening the doorway before the Minotaurs returned from their hunt.[7]
Third Era[edit]
Circa 3E 433, the Hero of Kvatch was recruited by Order of the Hour priest Ilav Dralgoner of Kvatch to investigate Beldaburo, believing it was the source of disappearances on the Gold Coast. When the Hero discovered a powerful magical barrier there, the priest concluded that such a barrier could only be the result of a Time Wound. Ilav surmised that a Time Would was actively being opened at Beldaburo through the use of an Elder Scroll that had been stolen from the Order just years prior, and provided the Hero with a blessing that would allow them to bypass the barrier. The culprit was revealed to be the lich Corelian, who had been experimenting on the kidnap victims using their newfound power. However, Corelian had gradually gone mad from their unnatural existence, and sought to use the Elder Scrolls to travel back in time and prevent themselves from ever becoming a lich. The Hero of Kvatch slew the lich, restoring the flow of Time before the Time Wound could be fully opened. With the threat ended, the Hero was made a Paladin of the Hour by the grateful priest, who could sense that time had indeed been healed.[9][10][11][12]
Sometime after, a group of conjurers came to inhabit the ruins, along with Daedra and other undead.[6][13]
