Quest-Related Events[edit]
South of the Hatching Pools, you'll come across a curious green gas cloud. If you get too close, you'll immediately become ill and will pass out. When you come to, you'll find you're in the presence of two imperial soldiers. You will learn from him that both him and Rhea are here to clean up a poisonous mess to prevent a diplomatic fiasco:
- "You're very lucky. Rhea risked her life by dragging you out of that poison gas.
Most Imperials aren't so partial to members of the Pact, but she's naive." - What are Imperials doing in Shadowfen?
- "Cleaning up a mess. I bear no responsibility for it, mind you.
If Rhea and her diplomat father hadn't created such an uproar about poison harming backwards swamp-dwellers, I wouldn't be here in the first place." - What do you mean?
- "Due to a clerical error, the Empire sent poison downriver in a trash shipment. Certain people feel we are responsible.
Sloshing about in the muck is beneath me, but you don't seem to mind. How about it? Solid Imperial coin for cleaning up this mess?" - I'll do what I can. What do you need?
- "Rhea needs the husk of a giant wasp for some sort of container. I'm sure she'd be happy to tell you all about it. Just bring the husk back to our camp, so we can get on with this."
If you speak to him again, he'll ask:
- "Well? Do you want the gold or not?"
- What do you need me to do?… [repeats from above]
Rhea will ask you to collect a Wasp Husk. Collect one and find them at their camp. As you arrive, Marius will mock you:
- Marius: "Well, that took you long enough. Did you get stuck in the mud?"
Before speaking to Rhea:
- "Give the husk to Rhea. She needs it for…. I'm sure she'll explain it."
After getting a container from Rhea, Marius will interrupt your conversation with you two:
- "You have a container, good. Are you ready for what's next?"
- Ready.
- "Rhea and I will take care of the poison in this region. You handle everything past Hissmir.
Once you've collected the poison, bring it to me at the disposal site near Zuuk." - I'll bring the poison to the disposal site.
- [Ends conversation]
- [Persuade] Rhea doesn't trust you. If you want my help, I want to know why.
- "Rhea would rather do what's right than what's necessary. I'm a soldier. I don't have that luxury.
Look, I'm willing to pay handsomely for your help. If you decide you don't want the money, be on your way."
- "Rhea would rather do what's right than what's necessary. I'm a soldier. I don't have that luxury.
After finish speaking with him, both him and Rhea will move out:
- Marius: "Let's move out!"
After you've filled the containers with gas you'll find Rhea and Marius north of Hissmir digging a large hole and putting large barrels into it.
- "Do you have the poison gas? Quickly now, give it to me."
- Here, take it.
- "This is the last of it, then. Anyone who tries to stand in my way will regret it. Here's your coin, as promised. Now begone, there's much work to be done."
- I need to think about this.
- [Ends conversation]
If you chose to give the poison to him and before turning in the quest, he will alternatively say while threatening you:
- "Speak of the poison to no one."
- Here's the poison. Where's my money? (Leads to quest completion dialogue)
If you chose to give the poison to Marius, he throws the poison at Rhea, killing her before running off:
- Marius: "To Oblivion with your interference. For the Empire!"
If you choose to give the poison to Rhea and before turning in the quest, he will express his disdain:
- "You gave Rhea the poison? Can't trust any of you provincials."
If you choose to give it to Rhea, she'll thank you and bind Marius in magical chains.
- Rhea: "Marius! I'm onto your treachery. You won't get this poison!"
- Rhea: "Thank you for entrusting the poison to me. I'll dispose of it safely."
- Marius: "If you set foot in Cyrodiil again, you're dead. Do you hear me, Rhea? Dead!"
Speak to him and he'll only say:
- "What are you looking at? When Rhea's spell fades, she'll pay for this outrage!"
