Online:Artifacts
It has been suggested that this article be split into multiple articles. (Discuss) |
Artifacts are unique and powerful items which grant their owners special abilities. Many of these items have been seen in other games in the franchise. In the context of Elder Scrolls Online, artifacts are seen occasionally during quests or can be temporarily obtained in PvP. The visual style of several artifacts can also be applied to your weapons via the Outfit System. Some weapon and apparel artifacts are seen and can theoretically be used by players, but are unavailable to be obtained.

PvP Artifacts[edit]
- The chaos of Cyrodiil reaches frantic new heights with the arrival of Artifact Weapons!
- For reasons that no sane person can possibly fathom, the Daedric Prince of Madness Sheogorath seems intent on prolonging the conflict in Cyrodiil. To that end, he occasionally sends weapons of great power to Tamriel. Players who take up these weapons have their standard ability bar icons replaced by a suite of new and terrifying Artifact abilities! But these abilities-like all gifts from Sheogorath—come at a cost. Players must feed the weapon Alliance Points to maintain their hold on it. These Alliance Points are tracked in a unique meter found in the player Ul. Points acquired from sources other than quests and repairing structures will fuel the weapon. If the meter is fully depleted, however, the weapon turns on the wielder, killing them and stripping them of their Artifact powers.
- Players wishing to experience the power of Artifact Weapons in a less competitive atmosphere can do so in Cheesemonger's Hollow—one of Sheogorath's pocket realms. Portals to this bizarre testing ground exist at the Northern Morrowind Gate, Southern High Rock Gate, and Eastern Elsweyr Gate in Cyrodiil.
Volendrung[edit]
- The legendary hammer, Volendrung, fuses Dwarven ingenuity with the seething wrath of the Daedric Prince Malacath. Its true nature and complex loyalties remain a matter of intense debate, but in the hands of a skilled warrior, its power is undeniable.
Volendrung is only available in Cyrodiil. Its introductory quest is Chaos Magic. This artifact is replicated by an outfit style.
Quest Artifacts[edit]
These items can only be seen or used during a specific quest, and are always associated with solo play areas, so you can never see two players with the items at the same time. They also provide you with unique abilities, generally only useful during their associated quest.

The Amulet of Kings[edit]
- An ancient artifact of Akatosh with mysterious powers.
The Amulet of Kings is acquired during Shadow of Sancre Tor, hidden in the ruin by Sai Sahan, who was tortured for two years by Mannimarco to tell him the location. It is used as part of the Dragonfire ritual vision in The Harborage and later in the sacrifice for God of Schemes, with Abnur Tharn disappearing with it afterwards. He later says he hid the amulet after discovering its power was temporarily drained.
Blade of Woe[edit]
The power to use the Blade of Woe is granted to members of the Dark Brotherhood, appearing out of thin air when used and disappearing afterwards. It uses the tier 3 daedric dagger style.
Crown of Freydis[edit]
- This crown is ornate, and very cold to the touch. This close to Sovngarde, it hums gently.
The Crown of Freydis is seen in Songs of Sovngarde, where it is brought to Skuldafn and presented before the Ebonheart Pact leaders at the Great Moot to seal their alliance.
Crown of Nenalata[edit]
The Crown of Nenalata is on display in the Marbruk Guild Vault. King Laloriaran Dynar also wears a crown, though it is unclear what relation it has.
Dawnbreaker[edit]
- The legendary sword of Meridia radiates with power.
Dawnbreaker is wielded by The Golden Knight and is instrumental during the Summerset main questline. The Knight allows you to use its abilities to smite enemies in various quests. It can also be acquired as a skill in the Fighters Guild skilline. This artifact will be replicated by an outfit style.
Ebony Blade[edit]
The Ebony Blade is seen during Edge of Darkness as a one handed weapon. The outfit style is inspired by the Ebony Blade from Skyrim.
The Fork of Horripilation[edit]
- A twin-tined fork made of some kind of base iron metal. Smells lightly of roast beef.
The Fork of Horripilation is an artifact of Sheogorath. He requests you obtain it from Korthor during Simply Misplaced, who drops it upon defeat. It appears once again at a Ruddy Fangs camp north of Two Moons at Tenmar Temple during The Lunacy of Two Moons. This artifact is replicated by an outfit style.
The Mace of Molag Bal[edit]
The Mace of Molag Bal is wielded by the eponymous Daedric Prince during God of Schemes, and can be seen holding it throughout the Main and Coldharbour quests. It is also replicated by an outfit style.
Mehrunes' Razor[edit]
Mehrunes' Razor wielded by Gilraen during Return to Ash, having become the "Razor Master". This artifact is replicated by an outfit style.
Mnemic Egg[edit]
The Mnemic Egg is seen during Songs of Sovngarde, where it is brought to Skuldafn and presented before the Ebonheart Pact leaders at the Great Moot to seal their alliance.
Muatra[edit]
Muatra is a unique staff wielded by Vivec. It is mentioned throughout the 36 Lessons of Vivec, and Vivec holds it a number of times throughout the Morrowind Main Quest. It is not directly referred to by its name, and is called VivecSpear_Staff
in the files.
Prismatic Crystal[edit]
- This gem contains the soul of a Meridian priestess.
The Prismatic Crystal is obtained from Mzeneldt during The Dangerous Past. It is later forged into the Prismatic Weapon of your choice.
Rootmender's Staff[edit]
Rootmender's Staff is granted as a quest reward for By River and Root.
The Skeleton Key[edit]
The Skeleton Key is an artifact associated with Nocturnal, stated as an unbreakable lockpick, but possesses far greater powers. It was stolen by the Blackfeather Court and stored in the Incarnatorium, later taken back by the Shadow of Sotha Sil during Lost in the Gloam. It is then used by Nocturnal and the Shadow in an attempt to unlock the inner workings of Sotha Sil's mind in Where Shadows Lie, with the Key being given to Divayth Fyr after Nocturnal's plot is thwarted. A replica furnishing can afterwards be purchased from Razoufa
Spellbreaker[edit]
Spellbreaker is wielded by Zaan the Scalecaller in Scalecaller Peak. This artifact is replicated by an outfit style.
Staff of Magnus[edit]
- This is the legendary artifact that was allegedly wielded by Magnus himself. I must now return it to Queen Ayrenn for safekeeping.
The Staff of Magnus is an artifact associated with the god Magnus. It is initially stored in the Mages Guild vault at Marbruk during The Staff of Magnus, before it is discovered as being stolen by the Veiled Heritance. The Shade of Naemon later uses it on the Heart of Valenwood at Hectahame during Striking at the Heart, and is retrieved after his defeat.
Staff of Towers[edit]
The Staff of Towers is assembled during the Psijic Order questline.
Staff of Worms[edit]
The Staff of Worms is a unique staff commonly seen as being held by Mannimarco. It is depicted as a having metallic prongs on the end with a skull inside the top. He seldom uses it, but casts a few spells with it throughout the Main Quest.
Sunna'rah[edit]
- Created by Sotha Sil, this staff-like device combines clockwork technology with magicka.
Sunna'rah is a staff created by Sotha Sil. It is first obtained in Divine Intervention and once again in Divine Restoration. The staff is used by both Chodala and Barbas.
Ul'Vor Staff[edit]
- An ancient relic thought to have originated in the Sea Sload kingdom of Ul'vor-Kus.
The Ul'Vor Staff was a mysterious magical Sea Sload stave stored in the Psijic Relic Vaults. It is used to tap into the mind of K'Tora during Buried Memories
Veloth's Judgement[edit]
Veloth's Judgement is wielded by Magistrix Vox during the Deshaan questline and is later seen during Songs of Sovngarde, where it is brought to Skuldafn and presented before the Ebonheart Pact leaders at the Great Moot to seal their alliance.
Wabbajack[edit]
- A long staff with many faces adorning its tip.
Wabbajack is used by the player during Simply Misplaced, and is given back to Sheogorath at the end of the quest. Some players managed to take it out of the intended area using a Banking Assistant upon their release, but it was quickly patched. Anyone that managed to take it out was able to keep the staff. It is a common quality level 1 healing staff that has a total of 858 damage. It fires a red beam unlike other healing staffs, and the intended targets for it to be used on are the temple acolytes during the quest. When used on the acolytes, they can undergo the following transformations:
- A Bantam Guar.
- A cat.
- A cheese wedge.
- A chicken.
- A hostile Dremora Caitiff.
- A hostile Pig that vanishes after a few seconds.
- A hostile Skeletal Soldier.
- A statue.
- A pumpkin plant.

Dropped Artifacts[edit]
Various artifacts were previously available as usable weapons during the beta, coming with their own abilities and sets. They could be obtained from various Veteran Group Dungeons, with some remnants being left in until Update 4 when quite a few of them were renamed to other sets with generic items (before those sets were also removed from the game), likely having been replaced with the Monster Helms system. The only artifact to make it past launch was Trueflame.
Trueflame[edit]
Trueflame was the legendary blade of Nerevar. It is a unique one-handed sword and part of the Arms of Infernace set, dealing between 168–1335 weapon damage based on the level, and is able to deal up to 2534 flame damage. It could previously be obtained from fishing in Stonefalls before it was patched in Patch 1.0.1. Those who obtained the sword before its removal were still able to keep it, but unable to trade it as it is a bound item.
Hopesfire[edit]
Hopesfire is the legendary blade of Almalexia, though she is not seen with it equipped. It is a unique one-handed sword part of the Arms of Infernace set, dealing between 168–1335 weapon damage based on the level, and is able to deal up to 2534 flame damage. It could previously be obtained from various veteran dungeons.
Crusader's Mace[edit]
The Crusader's Mace is one of the legendary relics of Pelinal Whitestrake. It is a unique one-handed mace part of the Relics of the Rebellion set. It could previously be obtained from various veteran dungeons, likely Veteran Crypt of Hearts. Curiously, its icon is used by the Molag Bal Relic.
Auriel's Shield[edit]
Auriel's Shield is a holy relic of the god Auriel, matching the item's appearance in Dawnguard. It is a unique shield part of the Relics of the Rebellion set, and possessed the ability to temporarily increase one's own armor rating using magicka. It could previously be obtained from various veteran dungeons, likely Veteran Crypt of Hearts.
Auriel's Bow[edit]
Auriel's Bow is a holy relic of the god Auriel, matching the item's appearance in Dawnguard. It is a unique bow part of the Arms of the Ancestors set, previously obtainable from various veteran dungeons. Many skills for the artifact have appeared in the game files, suggesting it will appear as a PvP artifact.
Staff of Indarys[edit]
The Staff of Indarys is an artifact resembling a tree branch. It is a healing staff part of the Relics of the Physician, Ansur set, and possessed an enchantment dealing shock and magic damage and restoring magicka. It could previously be obtained from various veteran dungeons.
Spear of Bitter Mercy[edit]
The Spear of Bitter Mercy is a Daedric artifact. It is a unique lightning staff part of the Destruction Suite set, dealing between 168–1335 weapon damage based on the level, able to deal up to 2534 Shock Damage, as well as increase your power by 348 for 5 seconds. It could previously be obtained from various veteran dungeons. The artifact appeared as an outfit style.
Staff of St. Llothis[edit]
The Staff of St. Llothis is an artifact of St. Llothis. It is a unique flame staff part of the Destruction Suite set, enchanted to deal Unresistable and Flame damage. It could previously be obtained from various veteran dungeons.
Hrormir's Ice Staff[edit]

Other[edit]
The following icons depict artifacts that originated in previous Elder Scrolls games and were intended to appear, but have not made it in-game:
Notes[edit]
- Artifacts have been planned since Patch 2.4.0, adding skill icons for Auriel's Bow, Auriel's Shield, Spellbreaker, Volendrung, the Ebony Mail, and Sword of the Crusader. So far, only Volendrung has been added.
